News / The legal definition of Vodka in EU - Poland not happy [16]

from the link

The leader of the British Conservative MEPs, Timothy Kirkhope, also welcomed the vote, saying "people are free today to drink the vodka they want - the British vodka drinker is saved from protectionists in Poland and Finland.

You know, of course, that this means war
Poland should raise hell about this...

;)

Speaking before Tuesday's vote, Finnish Socialist MEP Lasse Lehtinen said "this is a battle of the vodka belt against the wine belt, and in between lies the beer belt, which will get to decide".

Bloody beerwine sippers....They have no taste

Yes, the Czechs suffered much from Germans. They were brutally treated badly by Nazis for killing Reinhard Heydrich. Whole village was killed as revenge.

Life / How do Polish view others [116]

the connection between the magyars and the finns is taht they both came from the central asia. their culture is the same and the languages that they speak are very similar.

Related yes by language (very distant cousins really I don't understand word of Hungarian ) but culture ? Hungarian culture is quite far away Finnish, Hungarians has been influenced by neighboring Slavs, Romanians and Turks. While Finns have been influenced by Russians and Swedes. We also don't have a common mythology.

About Polish-Hungarian friendship: maybe it was Stefan Batory, Jagiellos on both thrones and Jozef Bem a Polish general and one of the heroes of 1848 Hungarian rebellion, that sparked friendship despite linguistic differences. :)

prostitution is not a valid solution for society

Let everyone choose their own valid solution for themselves not for society ? As long as they are not harming others, right ?

News / Polish/German/Russian relations [304]

PS: The blue colore means "german troops" :)

Well the only German troops in Finland were in Lapland. And as you can see on the map they performed pitifully. And later Germans (200 000) were kicked out by bunch of Finns (60 000)

Hey BBoy. Many times you told us about the fearsome Germanic warriors. So now tell us the last war your country won on its own. That’ll be interesting. :)

I think it was the Franco-Prussian war in 1870s

where is your answer B-Boy...
How is this possible if the Poles were such fierce anti-Semites ?

How is it that the largest number of people that received "Yad Vashem"-recognition for actions of defending the Jewish against Hitler are coming from Poland.

Brawurst are you accusing that 6 million Jews were killed by Poles not Germans ?
If thats your point then you are totally lost here...

No I didn't you idiot!

Germans did much to recognize, to apologize, to pay and to remember the Holocaust!

It's the Poles who are still deep in denial about THEIR shameful past!

Your postings just seem to be all about how bad the Polish were to both Germans and Jewish as if the Polish were the worst anti-Semites.

No western ally could have won against Germany on their own...

And germans of course fought "on their own"... already in 39 you had Austria, Slovakia and the Soviet Union, against the SU the whole armies from Hungary, Romania, Baltics, Finland, the whole divisions of volunteers from Norway, Belgium, Croatia, Ukraine etc. + Italians, Vichy France and Japanese were keeping most forces of Yanks in the Pacific...

It was not an ally just burden, the same as in nato! What done italians in winter Stalingrad? The focus of oure break was pointed on the romanian divisions as a weakest.

Hmmmm....German performance on the Arctic front was subpar compared to Finnish. Maybe Germans were too busy bonking nazi-admiring finnish women in Oulu.

Well you should your nature after 1944...

Love / Polish attitude towards sex [194]

women have free choices but surely there are other choices available, i know girls from brazil who work in london xxplacesxxx n they are forced to make that choice... its society to blame and the fact that men cant keep their pants on...!

the thing is: some women just want to have a lot of sex and if they can get money from it: even better !!!!

Of course there is slavery in sex biz just as there is in contruction & restaurant business but they are not demonized like prostitution.

All the protest comes from the western feminists, not from these girls.

Fear of competition perhaps ?
Well as long as I, as a man, am supposed the bills in restaurants for just hopes of sex and bunch of "maybe later"s I using escorts only fair & honest mean to get some.

Nothing to do with the war or history bratwurst boy - truth is that people simply do not like Germans !
Whereas most people do like Poles because in general they are pretty friendly and humourous people - things that simply cannot be said about Germans - sorry

And when Germans try to be humorous, it is painful to both eyes and ears.

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

Max payne writes: 'It is understandable that people in everyday speech use those blanket terms, they are not expected to know many differences between EE cultures. But journalists should do better.'

- Do you mean it's understandable that people in the EU don't know that there are nations in the EU such as Poles, Slovaks, Lithuanians? Is it understandable that those people don't know the difference between them?

Well some people just are not interested in geography or culture. But that doesn't mean necessarily that they are rasicsts or bigots. People use generalizations. Is it right ? No, but it is understandable.

Would it be understandable if people did not know the difference between e.g. Swedes and Finns?

It is understandable and it happens all the time. But if I have a chance I will always enlighten people about the subject :)

I don't know if employers are interested in their employees sexual orientation anymore or anywhere. Not even military.

Perhaps, but do employers really want to ask the question. There is nothing to win by asking it. Even GWB is supporting "don't ask don't tell"-policy in military.

How would it feel for an Irish person, if some fellows from, say, Scotland have done something wrong and somebody referred to the culprits by the generic term 'Gaelics'?

It wouldn't be used correctly...not the same...East Europeans are E. europeans after all a correct term.

well how about "celts" then. You wouldn't want a blanket term used about you ?
It is understandable that people in everyday speech use those blanket terms, they are not expected to know many differences between EE cultures. But journalists should do better.

no, i'm just Finn with an interest in Poland. There is about 1000 Poles in whole Finland.

If Finnish language wouldn't be so horribly hard (from my point of view), I'd move to Finland for a while :)

well your point of view is same as over 90% of europeans. so don't worry on that :)

Katariina Jagellonica (Katarzyna Jagiellonca, daughter of Zygmunt I) came....and brought us the fork !!!
I don't know if even she learned the language though...

The whole thing ackowledges that discrimation exists. They knew that very well before they joined the EU that the EU has very strict laws when it comes to sexual, religious, racial, etc discrimination..

If you're looking for a job, the fact that you're a lesbian or not should not decide wether you get the job.

History / Soviet war monuments in Poland - what to do about them? [133]

actually it is Germany that's all hugs & kisses with Russia nowadays.
Ok, maybe Merkel is a bit different.

Crow, did you know it was Russia who supported Baltic German rule over Estonians. Estonians had hopes that Russia would put end to the German rule, that originated from Northern Crusades, but it didn't happen.

back to topic: the new place for statue is even actually even better: it has no grey wall back, so you can see from all sides of it.It wasn't humiliated in any way. The new plaque on it says: "to the unknown soldier",both in Estonian and Russian. How is that humiliating ?

History / Soviet war monuments in Poland - what to do about them? [133]

Estonians formed SS units - we Poles did not.

Yes this is right but Estonians on the whole were not Nazist. There was anti-German resistance even if it wasn't as strong as anti-Soviet.

Ukrainians also had SS-units. So did some Russians (Vlasov's army, Lienz Cossacks) fight for Germany.
But can one call the whole people of Ukrainians and Russians Nazis because of this ?
No.

History / Soviet war monuments in Poland - what to do about them? [133]

Don't forget that 25% of Estonias population is Russian.

It was different for Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and the other so-called "satellite countries". They could maintain more independence in their politics compared to Baltic states that were direct part of Soviet Union.

Weird thing with the statue is: it was sculpted by an Estonian and the model for it was an Estonian wrestler. Also there were Estonians fighting in Soviet army as well. And the current sign on statue says it is dedicated to soldiers of WW II not to "liberators" as it was before. I think it was a mistake to move the statue.

I understand why the Estonians don't like the Russians (My mother is from Karelia in Eastern Finland, so I know what Russians are capable of!)

Before WW II it was Germans that were not liked by Estonians, Baltic Germans since times Teutonic Order were big bullies against the Estonians.

In Eastern Finland both sides did bad things, but both of them were nothing compared to German actions.
