1.you'd find out only later on
2. put your both hands on your hips - wait for 4 seconds - then reach your arm toward him with open palm of your hand. Yousing your pointing finger call him over to you and talk.

don't mention any winks as not to put him into defensive mode rahter tell him you've noticed he's been starring at you.

Life / What nation Poles like the most? [56]

No matter what Enland football current ranking is Poland always would take pride in beating Enland - it has to do with England as cradle of football and some fans animosity reaching back to 1974 (when Poland players were called "monkeys" by one of british tabloids - fact known to many football fans)

On contrary to matches against Ireland visiting English fans on games in Poland are always heavily guarded on and away from stadiums while Polish and Irish are mixing on stadium with no animosity at all. In fact many Poles would cheer for Ireland.

Hard to find any rationale for all this.
Poland fans would cheer on Ireland, USA national anthem played and stay calm on Germany's one. They'd boo on English anthem though.
In personal contacts Poles would show more sympathy to English then to say Scandinavians or Germans. Go figure!

USA, Canada / Renewing Polish Passport in US [30]

I've done all this like 4-5 years ago. All forms were send to me, I sent them back and received passport in mail. The only hassle was to use notary to certify my signature.

I had to send my expired passport though. I guess my notary certified signature and matching new and old photographs helped.
I also had no dual citizenship issue.

Life / "Gdzie jest barszcz?" How do I get talking Polish with real Poles? [16]

I've been once approached by polish language learner and frankly had no patience to go on as conversation was on so basic level. It was hard to focus for me and my partner was happy to understand or communicate simple messages - good for him.

"this is green and this is blue and I am tall" - yes, yes.

Life / Metal Detecting in Poland [18]

It is not illegal to walk around with metal detector but it is not legal to dig.
According to law all you'd dig out belongs to state.

Life / Poles need to learn to save! [73]

What many Poles don't save is electricity and water. Most wash dishes in running water and idea of soaking dishes is not that popular. The same goes with households lights. I once heard ironic "ARE YOU SAVING?" when turning off unnecessary lights. They thought I was... cheap :) ( I think)

In Sweden I saw people saving soap, they'd put small soap pieces together into mesh bag (the ones you get buying carrots or lemons). Poles just throw away soap when not "handy" anymore.......well some (me,too) would sometimes use it to soak dirty socks before hand washing.

Life / I'm about to move to Szczecin, Poland. I'm Muslim, black. [37]

I don't know any local job sites in English. Maybe this link could help if you're into finding companies in your field of work.

polandbusinessnetwork.pl/companies/

as for rooms: for 125 euro you should find room to rent with shared kitchen/bathroom;
studio apartment from 350-400/month; one bedroom apartments (two rooms, kitchen, bathroom) start around 500 euro

nearest Romanian consulate in Gdynia (5hrs by train)

Travel / anyone put the new shengen rules to the test? [30]

BTW it is not necessary to get Schengen visa when traveling to Poland, there are also visas for Poland territory only - no border checks doesn't mean you can visit other countries on it.

90 days is fairly enough for a tourist to see Europe.

Travel / anyone put the new shengen rules to the test? [30]

What if I went to germany or sweden, there aren't borders anymore since Shengen, so I can go there freely with no trouble. Could I leave from an airpot in Berlin or Stockholm for New York? Would they care that I got there through Poland?

You can stay in Schengen zone for 90 days (Poland included) . From wherever you leave Schnegen zone, Berlin, Stockholm or Malta you'd be asked about your overstayed visit.

Life / I'm about to move to Szczecin, Poland. I'm Muslim, black. [37]

My salary is about 750 euro per month - net. Is it enough for a single person in poland? How much accomendation would cost and what types of accomendation is available for a single person - I don't want to share bed or room? Anyone from szczecin

Studio apartment in Szczecin would start at around 300 euro/month plus your utilities - about 25 euro. Your salary would be around good average for this town. The least paid jobs are here about 400 euro/month

What kind of jobs can I found there? and what paying? Tell me if it is really necessary to learn polish.

not speaking polish would certainly limit your options for employment, don't really know what to advice you. If you are into manual hard work in say shipyards you'd be making around 700 euro. Distributing flyers on street pays about 15 euro a day (not sure how many hours). Room renting starts at 125 euro/month.

I live in Szczecin myself, this town is quite alive in spring - summer and goes into some kind of freeze in winter (not due to weather which is mild in winter).

(...) there are many smaller towns around Szczecin where live is less expensive, some have good transportation to the city. Stargard Szczecinski is only 30 min away by train with population of 70 000 to give one example.

cheers from szczecin

Life / rellocation from Kiev to Warsaw [3]

2. Is it a big problem for my future employer to give me job offer if I have only Shengen Visa with no permission to work?

It is. Ukrainians can work legally in Poland for 6 months a year. Procedure requires your future employer to go to Urzad Pracy (Labour Office) to pick up and fill some papers, which are then send back or given to prospect employee. With the papers one gets visa along with work permit. After 6 months work permit expires and the next one can be obtained after 6 months break.

There are some other legal ways I'm sure to work.
