We can trade statistics, but everybody knows that numbers can be twisted to fit one's needs. I live in one of the most ethnically diverse areas of Los Angeles. A few blocks from Compton a few blocks from the barrio. I see everyday the positive element that immigrants bring to this country and to themselves. I strongly support immigrant business (evenly with American businesses). If I don't know what I'm talking about I'm not sure how.

I am struggling to understand your argument. You said that illegals throw all their money back to Mexico and that is patenly false. That's what I said wasn't true. Over 20 billion dollars came into America in the last 8 years because of illegal immigrants. I agree with you that the illegal situation is a burden on the health care system but that isn't what you were talking about above. Illegals (who pay taxes, by the way, the same taxes that go to that health care system) pose no threat to you, I can assure you. If I'm wrong, please tell me, specifically, what you, RockyMason, has had to give up, or sacrifice because of the immigrant "problem." America makes nearly 200 billion dollars a year from immigrants, illegal or otherwise. And in a generation these people are fully contributing American citizens (withen 10 years 3/4s of immigrants, illegal or otherwise speak English fluently). If the demonstrations yesterday in downtown LA taught us nothing, it is that immigrants are a giant group, a group that is making money for America.

As we've gotten off topic, I'll say that while I know less about the Polish immigration to England, in what I've read and researched it reminds me socially a lot of the backlash against Mexican and Latino immigrants in the States. Obviously, the geopolitical landscape is different across the pond but if the similarities are there, its a bunch of brouhaha over nothing.

While it appears that Horse Racing in Poland is non-existant. Here in America, where horse racing is becoming non-relevant, the biggest race of the year is this Saturaday; the Kentucky Derby. I can't tell you how embarassed I am as an American by this. I take great pride in knowing where things are on a map and to see a fellow country woman crap all over that is disheartening ("I thought Europe was a country.") My "own people" have done enough disrepectful things to others, a little back from withen isn't going to hurt anybody. I don't speak "derogatory," I try as much as I can to speak the truth and I call things the way I see them. Race mixing does not bring "racial heritage" under attack. This is one of the more hilarious sentences I've ever read. Hilarious, sad, terrifying, all of those. First, the phrase "Original Americans" used to describe Europeans is pretty funny, ESPECIALLY when used to contrast Indian people. That article would offend me regardless of how I'm voting. The purpose of his statements, to my ears anyhow, was to reflect that the world is not black and white, as Ms. Grabar presents it. That sometimes people we like say things we don't agree with, that to him, friendship and loyalty have precendence over political gain. As I said before, I don't care who anyone votes for, but to assert that white immigrants "have it worse" than "lucky Black Americans" is ludicrous. If you want to disown Obama for the thoughts of his preacher, I can't tell you not to, but I can alert you to some quotes from people John McCain has called his spiritual leaders:

Not only is that a simplistic example it's also a bunch of hogwash. This sporting insult to Black intelligence is not new. Since sports have become globalized and integrated the line has always been "White Athletes are smarter, Black Athletes have 'natural, inherit, God-given athletic ability.'" It's fooey. It's a white rationalization on why they're getting beat at the sports they invented.

You're not a racist, Tornado, I don't use that word lightly and I wouldn't lob it your way, but that is some flawed thinking, however it is shared by many. I can't speak much for European Football but some of the greatest Black baseball players were maligned in their heyday as being "naturally talented, but not 'baseball smart.'" You can't be as great as Hank Aaron and Willie Mays were without inherent "baseball intelligence." This is the same line of thinking that keeps blacks from being quarterbacks in American football.

I'm extrapolating here because I'm not in expert in world football but perhaps the way the African teams played seemed different because they learned the same game a different way. What I mean is that, an African fan might watch a European team and note what he thinks to be poor form because he was taught football in the African mold.

When the Canadians invented hockey in the late 1800s, it went through many rule changes and incarnations that were designed to make the game better, but the Canadians naturally held on to some of the bad habits the new rules were designed to remove. When the Soviets picked up hockey in the 1950's they didn't start with those bad habits so their game became superior quickly. Is this to say that the Canadians had poor "hockey smarts" or that the Russians were "hockey geniuses?" Of course not, it was just a different way. I'd be careful before labeling such subjective things as unintelligent.
