Travel / Krakow going down the toilet! [184]

...but that's a very short-term attitude - even the stag party lads are fickle, and they'll move on. Prague, Tallin... they've all been "done". If Krakow if the place for stag parties this year, it'll be somewhere else next year.

In the meantime, all that will happen is that people who are looking for a short break to take in the history and culture will be put off, and will go elsewhere.

Travel / Krakow going down the toilet! [184]

That's a shame. It's been a while since I was in Krakow, and I thought that all that stuff was more or less confined to a couple of pubs, like The Bull.

Are the authorities doing anything to prevent Krakow from going the same way as Prague? Fair enough, money is being made, however it's pretty much a short term strategy, and it will eventually put people off wanting to visit.

UK, Ireland / Anyone else get a copy of 4YouK today?... [6]

How did you find those magazines i sent LC?

Really interesting.... I like how there are sections in English too - kind of bringing both cultures together, which is always a good thing.

Give me a shout if you want me to get a copy of 4YouK in the post to you - I can probably pick up a spare copy.

Handed out to the masses at Oxford Circus.

Interesting idea to promote Poland / Central Europe... what do you think?

News / March of Tolerance in Krakow [478]

Do you see straight people having their parade..... I don't think so, the gays would cry discrimination..... I'm not going to be walking around on egg shells just to make sure homosexuals aren't offended.... (homosexuality is not genetic, it was very clever of them to claim that though) because how can anyone argue with that....

Hey calm down....

I bet you still got a boner when you clicked on the think that I posted above, eh?

Guys, come-on.... stop trying to over-analyse it. In the words of Stonewall's current campaign, some people are gay - get over it.

And as for Catholicism.... come on... all those buff young priests in the Vatican City. If you don't believe me, check this out: calendarioromano.co.uk

Life / Polish escort services - legal in Poland? [98]

A survey awhile back, in Russia had 90% of teenage girls aspiring to be a prostitute.

90% seems a bit steep, but I can see why misguided teenage girls would be impressed. Look at films like Pretty Woman and the tv series Belle du Jour (with Billy Piper)... they portray it as a glamourous career move.... and the teenage girls see it as hanging out in 5* hotels, being presented with diamonds and Versace dresses and eating in top end restaurants, rather than hanging out at train stations with crackheads. Plus look at all the sluttier end of the fashion scale that appears in pop videos.

UK, Ireland / hospitals in the uk [34]

The NHS deadline for 'deep' cleaning in all hospitals is about to expire. I think I heard on Radio 4 today that something like 97% of all hospitals have met the deadline. Of course the are arguements that the whole thing was a publicity stunt which has diverted much needed funds from elsewhere in the NHS. Hmmm

Don't get me started on NHS deadlines and targets.... you do have to give the government a gold star for positive spin.

Nurses don't clean hospitals, exactly

But in a sense, they should. My mother-in-law was a ward sister for about 35 years (recently retired), and in that time she's seen a lot of chages. Back in the day, keeping the ward clean was her responsability. More recently, the task of keeping the ward clean had been taken away from her and outsourced to a third party company, and instead she was taking care of mountains of paperwork.... lots of performance measures and targets that the government can easily fudge....

One thing that does worry me is the staff uniforms - I see nurses travelling to work on the tube etc. and then going into the hospital. Surely that can't be a good thing.

News / Earth Hour - possible in Poland? [62]

What a cool idea... I've not heard about it here (in London).

One thing that makes me mad is the number of offices in the city (financial district -near my neighbourhood) that have their lights on all through the night and all over the weekend, when there is clearly nobody there.

Yet us little people are told not to leave our tv on standby <shrug>

Life / I feel the gay rights movement is constrained Poland [90]

Could that be because homosexuality isnt the "norm" and probably never will be the "norm, in the UK or anywhere else?

That's a very blinkered view... how do you define "the norm"?

Life / Polish escort services - legal in Poland? [98]

I think maybe a lot of men using these services do so because they are lonely.

I think that plenty more pay for it because they enjoy the sordid thrill.....

Travel / Central Wings cancel certain flights to Poland [38]

I understand that flying with a budget airline problems are part of the course

Me too

but they really excel themselves

Totally agree.

I've had no problems with Ryan Air, in fact I fly a lot with them - but they don't do a direct flight from Stansted (or any of the London airports) to Warsaw.

Love / what is reasonable - he does not want me to go back to poland [55]

i feel for him in his situation

Sorry, but as harsh as this may sound.... don't feel anything for him. Just walk away from the messy situation.... don't fool yourself. He is having his cake and eating it, if you see what I mean.

Give yourself time, and wait for a guy who really deserves you.
