UK, Ireland / Poles in UK turn to fast food [29]

Wroclaw - you should have seen the look on the poor lassies face ( aged about 8 ) as she picked off the batter to reveal a peely-wally white/grey thing underneath !!

She looked at her mother as if she was about to cry.

UK, Ireland / Poles in UK turn to fast food [29]

At lunch today in a supermarket cafe. The family behind me were from Pl. All of them had fish and chips but they all picked the batter off the fish and left it at the side.

Amused me a little.

Language / Polglish - mixture of Polish and English [34]

ależy ile English and how much język Polish i jakie they're balanced.

From this I can rozumie that "Zalezy" must mean depends ?

kare fiksował

Fixing the car. LOL

Would you really want to talk like this?

It would be an improvement on where my Polish is just now, but I can understand how it would make native speakers cringe.

Love / what is reasonable - he does not want me to go back to poland [55]

So on Monday you told him you needed more definates and then nothing for the rest of the week ?

Being in a relationship isn't supposed to feel like what you are feeling now. How long are you going to do this for ?

Move on.

Love / what is reasonable - he does not want me to go back to poland [55]

what could be the problem

I think we both know the answer. Its tough but you are going to have to face it.
The age difference isn't that big, its an excuse. If it wasn't that it would be someting else.

Thing is, you are going to torture yourself until you are 100% sure, but you are never going to be 100% sure.

UK, Ireland / National Holiday To Celebrate Britishness Could Be On It's Way [83]

as far as your claims of lies, i don't like getting into, he said she said situations so we'll leave it there

Under the Freedom of Infromation Act is was found that the UK government had lied.
It is a lie that England subsidises Scotland. Every person in Scotland pays a £700 subsidy to the UK.

England can get the oil elsewhere,

I am quite willing for an independant England to buy Scottish oil !

This whole British day has been dreamed up by Gordy Broon whose "coat is on a shoogley peg" down in Westminister. He has been trying to convince all the English of how British he is.

Remember when asked what his favorite goal was ?
Backing England in the football instead of Scotland ?
Poor Gordy.

UK, Ireland / National Holiday To Celebrate Britishness Could Be On It's Way [83]

i mean how much money does Scotland get given by the English government again??? :)

English government ?
Scotland subsidizes the rest of the UK with its oil. UK government lied about the figures in the 70's as they were afraid that the true figure would encourage Independence. In the 80's it kept UK afloat and has done so since.

let me guess, anti-monarchy and a Celtic fan at a guess :)

Don't see the point in a monarchy, even a Stuart one. Caley fan.

Referendum coming hopefully in 2010

not all scot's and welsh are so ignorant, or defiant about independence,

Whats ignorant or defiant about wanting Independance ?

anti-england

No, just don't want to be part of UK.

Why let the views of a few spoil it for the rest of the UK

The right of self determination ?

Latest polls show a majority for Independance in Scotland, if the people of Scotland want it they will vote for it in a referendum. If they don't want it, the status quo remains.

Love / Brit working in Poland - asking this Polish lady if she's in a relationship? [114]

advice please Polish ladies.....

As you may have guessed I am not a Polish lady so I hope you dont mind me putting in my tuppence but -
three months is too long to wait, so you need an excuse to see her.
I reckon that this is not the only piece of paperwork you have to do ?
Why not use something as an excuse to go in to her office and ask her to help you with it. This will get you some time together during which you can ask her out.

Worse case scenario - she says no and you feel awkward once every three months ( also gives her a chance to reconsider every three months ).

Best case scenario - Yippee !

Think positive - maybe she is thinking the same thing !

Poor Gordy Broon. Jings crivvens help ma boab, maybe if we have a British day we can get more Labour MPs returned and stop Scotland voting for Independence. LOL

Work / Scot going to Poland for work [13]

Hi Phil, welcome to the forums.

If you have limited Polish then you might want to look for work around the Sopot area, maybe in a Bar or restaurant.

I would imagine it will be tough to earn enough to keep a roof over your head and have some spare for a bit of fun too.

UK, Ireland / The Poles are Coming documentary [38]

Not that great. Sort of a poor mans Louis Therioux kind of thing.
Gdansk looked great.
Focussed a lot on other people from baltic states, Cz and Slovenia
Followed a mans journey from Poznan to England ( poor guy looked like he left his dentures at home ).

Didnt focus for too long on any positives.
The bit about the Cz guy sleeping under a bush looked like it was made for the camera.

UK, Ireland / Need flat for 2 weeks in Edinburgh [32]

I know where the building is, its in a good location and looks OK from the outside. I dont know what its like on the inside but I think it is part of the SYHA network so it will be one of the better hostels.

UK, Ireland / Need flat for 2 weeks in Edinburgh [32]

Edinburgh, near the Uni -

Salisbury Green - Actually on campus £69 a night

Nice B&B - £55 ( might be cheaper - phone and negotiate )

Recommended hotel on the South Side- 10 Hill Place. Quote says £140 a night but you should get it for around £100.

Whats your budget ?
If it is around £60 or less I would steer clear of the hotels and go for a Bed and Breakfast.
Accommodation in E'burgh is expensive.
Threre are plenty of good Guest Houses in the Mayfield and Cameron Toll area. There are good bus routes so I wouldn't worry about transport.
