News / Polish Japanese relations (history and present time) [90]

He's a good contributor isthatu2. For an American (no offence intended), he offers broad and well thought through accounts of many matters, not tainted by bias. I admire his individualism the most. This was how Americans were supposed to be but the Jewish media pulled the wool over many of their eyes. Hats off to his rational, largely unprejudiced analyses.

News / EU a beacon of light for the World to follow [85]

Lesser, how does an LLM in European Law (and International) sound? It was my Masters. It's hard to gain entry to that course, let alone pass it. I scored well so please don't belittle my knowledge. I was told to do that based on my Honours year marks in European Law and get a scholarship, both of which I did.

Stop assuming that u r the expert on such matters. I don't profess to be, nor should you.

I heard that this was a myth David_18. This is the view that foreigners like to throw around but is it really true?

Law / Tax Rate in Poland [6]

Definitely, I agree Greg. I get hacked off at the 19% rate but I'm actually quite close to the 30% rate so I should shut my mouth and quit while I'm ahead. I think some part of my income gets taxed at 30%.

Let's do the Math. Let's say u live here in Silesia. If u get 5,000zł, u can take 1000zł off through rent and utilities (media). An extra 800zł from ZUS if u r in ur 3rd year of ur company. 750zł tax. So, half of it goes. If u have kids and a car, u will lose money quite quickly.

Life / Dungeons & Dragons - big in Poland?/Who here plays it [45]

There was a character called Kirgit who had 100HP, was a 17th-level human fighter and used 2 katanas. He was to fight the Orc Commander and lead us to victory. Classic drama unfolded, 2 double 20's killed him outright but still we prevailed due to using an enchanted longbow from our powerful elf, Laucian.

I was Arek the Cleric. I had Remove Paralysis and Summon Monster as 2 of my key spells. Cure Moderate Wounds was the most useful. My dilemma was when to enter battles with my Morning Star and club away. I had AC 17 for most of the game, but AC 20 after some time so I rolled the dice in more ways than one. If I died, my team as good as failed. I was healer extraordinaire.

Please, if this thread slips down, revive it. PF was crying out for sth like this.

Law / Tax Rate in Poland [6]

There is no one income tax rate although the standard is 19%.

There are some who can pay zryczałtowany podatek, which is a flat rate system. It is a permanent and constant thing whereby u can't buy sth for ur firm and claim VAT back for it.

I have a teaching firm and, should I choose to buy a printer, my financial advisor would chop the necessary amount off. I cannot get VAT deducted as that's not the nature of my concern.

I'm with a firm called Profit but I'm sure u could find a financial agency in ur city

Life / Horticulture in Poland [63]

If u r truly interested in horticulture Osioł, I could put u in touch with the Horticultural Officer in Aberdeen. He has built his career around it and I know him personally as he is the dad of my best friends from Scotland. We used to drink together but horticulture didn't feature high on the agenda.

He's a member of Aberdeen City Council and is a judge in the annual Britain in Bloom competition. I contributed to the cause of Aberdeen in 1996 as a student who had a summer job cleaning up gardens.

News / Polish Japanese relations (history and present time) [90]

Nihon no bunka ha inshoteki dayo. Japan has a good footie league, super food, tasty women, superior technology, super efficiency and good beer. I could sing the praises of the country forever more. I prefer to see the positives although negatives are there for all to see.

UK, Ireland / Are the Poles in England hated? [450]

The Broons were a barrel of laughs. I think we are justifiably off thread, the level of hatred is pretty strong here.

UK, Ireland / Are the Poles in England hated? [450]

Listen once and for all, many British employers across the country are taking Poles on board. If they were really so worthless, which they are not, why do so many employers risk hiring them?

So, the vast majority hate them, eh? The simple corollary of that is that the vast majority of English folk are hateful bastards!! Is it that simple?

UK, Ireland / Self-employed Brit - paying taxes in Poland? [2]

Look up Certificate of Fiscal Residence and P85 issues. If u split the tax payments two ways, u may be in a lower threshold (bracket) and save urself a few bob.

I'm sorry I can't offer u more professional advice, it's not my area but I have had some experience whereby I've contacted the tax offices in both countries. I'm exempt from UK tax.

I'm sure u'll find an explanation on a government page somewhere.

Life / Dungeons & Dragons - big in Poland?/Who here plays it [45]

We had to bust into an orc camp. One of our wizards had a spell to polymorph another character so I used it to change the character of a normal character into an orc. It was a blast. The guy who role played the orc is a super bluffer and put the DM to the sword. He had to play off the loyalties of the orcs and create division in the ranks. We had to tag him to make sure that, when the time came for us to enter the fortress, that we wouldn't kill him. He was one of ours. Priceless!!

Travel / Taking a Camper (Motor-home) to Poland [16]

Super idea Paddy, I did this as a discussion with my advanced group. There is so much untapped potential in Poland. The Poles love BBQ's, a major attraction for campers. Seriously, explore ur options fully, they are plentiful and u'll have a ball. Good luck mate
