UK, Ireland / The Problem i have with Culture Differences (UK + Polish) [32]

who knows how the mind of a Polako works? maybe its me who is lacking in culture huh..but godammit Ive introduced him to Big Brother and X Factor.. what more does he expect? but generally he does seem to think English people are uncultured in comparison with Poles.. (eg) traditional religous celebrations like Christmas and Easter etc..

You go to Africa and they will totally blow you away with eating bats and maggots

well I know we all like to generalise here.. but please dont forget that Africa is a diverse continent. I travel there a lot and have never met anyone who eats bats..although I am sure they may do in some specific regions. And maggots are more likely to be termites.. very tasty actually.. as are grasshoppers and black ants.. anyway, back to the plot...

I am English with Polish partner and in my experience the cultural differences are pretty big.. yes he likes to moan and complain about everything even when there is nothing really wrong and at times he slags off the English, saying we have no culture.. until I 'politely' ask him why he is living in the UK with an English woman then! So, sometimes for him Poland is the most fantastic place on earth and Polish people are the best.. and sometimes he hates them all and loves the English.. you never know from one day to the next, but it keeps things interesting to say the least. Anyway, we are all different and if you love each other you can learn to embrace the cultural differences.

UK, Ireland / 700 are arriving every day from Eastern Europe into Britain [50]

well said Justyna.. I dont think its true that British people wont let foreigners into their social circles.. its more a case of many immigrants not wanting to integrate.. for whatever reason, be it language, culture etc. etc.. Those who make the effort to meet locals and break away from the ex-pat scene should have no problems.

News / Tinky Winky from tellytubbies outed in Poland [145]

this was in the UK news today about Poland and its crusade against Tinky Winky. I have actually met him in the flesh (the puppet not the voice) and he was very nice.. leave him alone... and get me a job creating childrens TV programmes!

News / Tinky Winky from tellytubbies outed in Poland [145]

we had this debate several years ago in the UK. A friend of mine worked on the show.. and yes he is a symbol of homosexuality, but its not something that young children would pick up on.. the others all symbolise something too, but cant remember what it is right now. I think banning it is ridiculous because like many childrens programmes it can be read on many different levels... such as Clangers, Magic Roundabout and Captain Pugwash to name a few.. any of you who know these will know what Im talking about

lots of people still do it.. I lived in Chile for a while and 75% of those people pulled over for using their mobiles whilst driving turned out to have fake ones... for show only.. this was 10 years ago, but it made me laugh.. appearance is everything.

espana -doesnt matter in spain cos you have nice weather most of the year so being outside is not a problem.

You cant even smoke in your own property now, if it is a commercial building. My mate has a business and owns the property and most of his workers work from home, there is only one guy there ( a smoker) but if anyone is caught smoking on the premises after 1st July the business can be closed..

Life / Smoking ban - will this be coming to Poland like other EU countries? [183]

dont take much to start a riot these days.. especially in small towns...and I dont mean just a separate area in the same room, but a totally separate room.. like in the olden days.. all pubs used to have smoking rooms.. the same as men only rooms.. not that Im advocating the latter

well i think there will be a riot in some parts of england. Its OK in the summer, but who wants to go outside in the p%%%%g rain in the winter. My opinion is that there should be smoking and non smoking places or separate rooms.. it is going to affect businesses.. of course we will get used to it, but why should we be dictated to. I am only a part-time smoker, but I have mates who have never smoked and agree with me.... its about freedom of choice.. and if they stop smoking in cars then there are going to be some angry agressive drivers on the road.

and another thing.. it is coming to the netherlands too.. what the %%% is going to happen to coffee shops.. most of them have already been forced to stop selling alcohol recently.. its a tragedy imho.

Love / My Polish boyfriend never says 'l love you' to me, what should i do? [93]

oh yes...keep your money separate.. dont get a joint bank account, credit card etc...but consider having a joint account for household bills only.. thats my opinion anyway and nothing to do with nationality.

in my mind, family means share everything. if you at the begining think of how to protect your money from divorce, why do you get married. just live together is more agreeable.

tell that to Paul McCartney!

will he go with you to wherever you go.. and why will you let him choose? I am with a Polish man and in my experience he is very proud, but still unsurprisingly willing to accept financial help from me at times :) I think in an ideal world they would like to be the breadwinner though.. but guess it depends on the individual...sometimes it can be a novelty for them to be with a woman who has a decent job and good salary.

Good luck to you both.. I love my partner, but the relationship is fraught with cultural differences at times.. you just need to weigh up the pros and cons and work out whether you will be happy staying together for the long haul.

Love / Do mix culture marriages work in Poland? [68]

i realised i couldnt change who i was to please him he wanted me to be some1else .

thats always a good thing to remember.. but sometimes difficult to put into practice.. when we fall in love we want to please our partner, and sometimes try to change things in order to do so. subtle changes are OK, but when your partner wants you to change who you are, you are losing your identity and the very thing that probably attracted them to you in the first place.. you both end up unhappy .. you because you no longer are what you want to be and them cos they no longer recognise you.

UK, Ireland / UK - the land of ultimate trial for Polish couples [13]

think this is mostly caused by the women meeting local men.

I think it works both ways.. its not always the women. Its not only locals too, there are lots of Polish people who hook up with other Poles here whilst their partners are back home.

Love / BLACK GUYS POLISH WOMEN [809]

Isnt the way a man treats a woman, determined by the way he was raised to do so?

well judging by some previous posts some mothers must teach their sons all kinds! Guys dont you think some of the lovely Polish women on here might be just a tad put off by your chit-chat? ...and you, milk chocolate man..you might be of Caribbean descent, but you did say you were English.. so why are you running down your own nation by talking about bad traits.. seems like you are a pretty good example of one.
