USA, Canada / Trying to get my Polish nanny married off -- best clubs in Chicago? [69]

I'm for priests to be married. They are men too.
Most of them are fine, but the few rotten apples spoil it for everybody and become the feeding frenzy for the lefties.

all types of criminals and weirdos go to church

and some end up "finding god" in prison...

Feedback / My Thoughts on this Forum and Moderators [71]

on all the forums i am on,

how the heck do you have the time for that? you're here barely over a month raking in over 1100 posts, add to it "other" forums...wow.

Frankly, the mods are too easy on some fly by night guests and members. It supposed to be about learning like Wroclaw said. However for some, it is just an outlet for daily frustrations and anger.

Life / Why do poles drink & drive? [82]

recent immigrants. They probably would not do this at home.

Unfortunately people abroad seem to behave differently than in their home country. The new found freedom and "nobody knows me here" attitude brings out odd behavior whether it is drinking or acting loud.

Life / Why do poles drink & drive? [82]

I found the opposite on my last trip in Poland. I visit a lot of my family members spread all over Poland. My"personal drivers" would never have even one drink afraid of a hint of alcohol detectable in their breath.

It is a norm in the US, when you go to dinner or parties, you have a drink or two, and then you drive home. Of course there also lots of drinking and driving accidents. Lots of lives lost and injured because of stupid bravado. Car insurance for young people, especially young men, is very expensive here.

I think, the roads and signage in Poland have also something to do with it.

Well, Michaś...I can spend many sleepless nights thinking what kind of lemon you are or I can spend many nights, sleepless, thinking: "I don't really give a darn" :)

Life / WHY POLISH PEOPLE DON'T USE THEIR NATIVE FIRST NAME WHEN ABROAD? [136]

I use many aliases. Trying to keep my imaginary enemies confused.(ok, just kidding)

I'm just about leaving to meet my american friend for dinner. She addresses me with my assumed name, not having a clue about spelling my real name.... And, we are friends for about 8 years or so... :)

Food / Is lamb big in Poland? [53]

I don't like mint flavor and don't use mint jelly. Rosemary, oregano, garlic, lemon, any or even all will do wonders to lamb. A touch of tomato sauce as well. I buy already mixed Greek spices at Greek deli. I bought one recently at Trader Joe's store, which is also wonderful. The store and the spice! :)

Lamb needs to be marinated at least overnight with your favorite spices before grilling, braising, roasting...whatever. Yammm, almost like kielbasa z kapusta! :)

Food / Is lamb big in Poland? [53]

I love lamb but only Greek and Italian restaurants know how to make it! Especially Greek. There is no smell, just heavenly taste.
I've learn to improvise the dishes somewhat and enjoy it at home as well. It's about preparation and spices. If not done properly - you're right, the taste and smell are too overwhelming to enjoy to meat.

I tried lamb in Chicago at one of the Highlander's restaurant, thinking they should know how to do it, but I did not like it, just salt and pepper does not cut it. I make it better at home.

Life / You know you're Polish when... ? [111]

You drink kwaśne mleko with potatoes.

Hahaha! You don't "drink" kwasne mleko. I eat it with a spoon! Yammyyyy, anyway. And, make sure the potatoes are sprinkled with chopped dill. :)

Also, in the summer, you crush fresh, ripe strawberries, add some sour cream and sugar, then pour it over hot, home made noodles. Ah, to die for.

I think kids should be told appropriate truth as soon as they ask "where do i come from?"
Maybe there would be less pregnancies...I think the truth is kept away from the kids too long. You see, there are less teen pregnencies in Europe. Children are told about sex as soon as they get curious about it. I knew more than I really wanted to know by the age 10! It did help.

why singling out US parenting? it's the same for all kids growing up in homes where both parents must work. The belt no longer rules. Children should be allowed to have their own personalities (to some extend). I have married friends with kids and they are parents to them, not buddies. I don't know of any who'd allow their kids to address them by name, I just heard that it happens in some families... I would have to agree then - not a good idea.
