Life / Trumpet fanfare in Czestochowa [7]

Yes, somehow the site show only the main adress all the time... so from the main page you have to choose "cudowny obraz" next "Fanfary jasnogórskie" (on the left) and then you have the link at the bottom.

Life / Trumpet fanfare in Czestochowa [7]

Hi

I think this is what you mean:
jasnagora.pl

(click at "stad" link at the bottom and you may listen and download mp3 and when you have that, you may "burn" It on CD.

And If you really want to have a legal copy then looks like the only possibility is to contact this monk:

obroslak.paulini.pl/glowna.php

He also post that in mp3 on his page and write that If somebody wants a CD then should call him or send a mail.

Life / Is Poland cold? [40]

It should be warmer soon... too early for winter, actually we still have summer...

My boyfriend tells me 30 years ago it used to drop to about -30ish, but apparently due to our old friend 'global warming' those days are gone.

Last two winters were very mild but the one before was very cold and in some regions at night It sometimes was even below -30.

News / Eat fish you idiot! (EU massive media campaign in Poland) [54]

I'm really tired with the EU massive media campaign telling us to eat fish...

Yep...

Anyway isn't EU as a whole rather net importer of fish ? I'm too lazy to check that but I would be very surprised If Poland had positive balance in foreign trade of these things... I see here Panga and other exotic kinds more often than local fish. So of course the whole idea of advertising (for public money) eating more fish is idiotic but a fact that If anything It may only make people eat more of Asian Panga makes It totally moronic.

Life / IS POLAND A GOOD PLACE TO RETIRE IN (FOR A POLONIAN)? [8]

Unfortunately...

Would his old-age pension go further in Poland than back home? Let's say he was getting $1,300 a month.

Rather not unless USD becomes much stronger.

How well would he have to speak Polish to get by comfortably?

Quite well.

Would he be accepted by native Poles?

Yes.

Could he make friends easily?

Depends on his level of Polish as most of older people don't know any English.

Travel / Comming to Poland from Finland [12]

could anyone tell me about the Cheapest route and way to reach Poland.

There should be some flights, to Warsaw at least... and If you want to take your own car then probably a ferry to Estonia and then through Latvia and Lithuania...

Law / KRUS - Farmer's Insurance Question and Help [10]

I'm not sure but KRUS is not really voluntary. If you work legally in Poland, you must have an insurence, so If you are actually producing something on that land and officially sell that then (unless you also work somewhere else or run a non-agro business and then pay ZUS) you must pay KRUS. So If you haven't paid ZUS (as an employee or a business owner) for these years and were officially selling meat, fruits or whatever you are producing then probably yes, you will have to pay KRUS for these years with penalty rates and maybe some other sh*t. But that's just my opinion.

Law / Tax break for US Citizen teaching in Poland [5]

some kind of tax break in Poland for the first 2 years....is this true?

He probalby ment when running own business, being "self-employed" in this case... then for the first 2 years ZUS is much lower.

Work / Length of company Reply times to job applications? [8]

In Poland, how long is the reply time for job applications?

Usually 2-5 weeks... But in most cases If they don't want you, they just don't reply. I was looking for a job in July and I know where I live, so within a week I sent over 30 applications - generally all the jobs good enough and where I had some chance, from the whole area. So my advice is - don't send just one or two applications and wait because that way you will be looking for a job for years.

Life / When in Poland, should I be British or Scottish? [104]

So, the question is - do I emphasise the fact that I am Scottish, or British?

In places like Kraków say that you are Scotish, elswhere It rather doesn't matter.

Life / I am in Poland on a tourist visa and have been here for 2 years.. [53]

If by this, you mean, "give them free education and medical care

I know that the US government don't protect the borders well enough and don't really search for illegals inside the country but If somebody is caught anyway then that's a serious thing, they are treated like criminals and kicked out.

Well, as Poles you may not understand. Schengen has displaced a lot of American floaters. We were allowed to live in Poland and the Czech Republic for as long as we like

Come on. You were allowed to stay here up to 90 days, just that you were using a loophole, leave for one day and you had next 90 days. And Schengen has been planned since years, months before It was all over the media.

The whole idea of illegal American immigration to Poland is still so bizarre that with a bit of good luck you should get away with this. Especially on the land borders, at the airports there could be some problems. So maybe It would be better to travel to Ukraine and fly to USA from there ? But that's just a thought.

But there's one thing I don't get. This is not America... here you have problems to borrow a book from the library without Polish ID... So you don't have Pesel, NIP, you don't pay ZUS, taxes ? If yes then I would rather worry more about these things than about immigration regulations.
