Life / How Fast is the Polish Legal System? [44]

How long does it take to do something in the Polish legal system?

I want to fight my ban from Poland and the EU. I know that its probably not worth it and I should just wait.

USA, Canada / Best Polish Restaurant in MI [17]

It closed about a month or 2 ago. I guess the owner got sick. I live very close to it. It was closed when I came back from Poland a month ago. :-(

In the other end of the same strip mall there is a great middle eastern restaurant.

Life / Cellphone/blackberry with pre-paid card [5]

I had a blackberry. As long as its unlocked it should work. You will not get any of the internet stuff to work. At least I couldn't on mine.

Love / THE TYPICAL POLISH WOMAN? [148]

Two Polish Idioms I have heard.

Where the devil can't go he sends women.

When 5 women are in the kitchen no cooking will get done.

Life / I'm an American who lived in Poland for 6 years. I'm not welcome anymore. [169]

The US has strange immigration rules as we know.

My brother in law is from the Ukraine. Him and my sister are both programmers and make great money. When they got married the Government would not let his mom come over for the wedding.

It makes no sense to me.

Life / I'm an American who lived in Poland for 6 years. I'm not welcome anymore. [169]

I am not banned from Poland because of overstaying my visitor visa. Poland and the US had an agreement prior to Poland joining schengen. I left Poland every 90 days.

I am banned because I did not have a work permit.

I had filed all my paperwork with the exception of my work permit. A work permit is something you need the employer to do.

Most of that paperwork I needed the help of my school and they did help me.

The laws have changed a few times in the past 2 years. Even the government people really didn't know the laws.

I was treated very well by the Straż Graniczna. I have no complaint on my treatment.

To be honest, they did not feel good about what they were doing. They had no choice in the matter. I had met them earlier in the processing of my other paperwork.

I am most upset because I tried to do everything the proper way. I would have never gotten caught if I didn't try to be legal.

My school is supposed to be getting a major fine and possible being banned from hiring foreigners.

Hello all,

I was just ejected from Poland a bit more then a month ago. I had filed my paperwork for temporary residence. My school kept telling me that I did not need a work permit. One day I walked back to my appartment and the border patrol was waiting for me. They gave me one week to leave Poland. I wrote an appeal but it was turned down. This mistake was my schools fault not mine, however, I will pay the price. I never tried to work illegal. I filed my paperwork, had a bank account and even paid taxes.

While I was not happy with what happend I can say that I was treated with respect.

As a result of this I can not go back to Poland and the EU for one year.

They even wrote an article on the city website where I lived.

Life / 16 y.o. starting from Scratch. Moving from Canada to Poland, $11K in bank [9]

Hello

The last I knew the Canadian dollar was pretty strong.

If you assume that its on par with the US dollar for exchange then you are looking at

$11,000 x 2.50 = 27,500pl

Depending in the size of the city and the appartment you are looking at 1,000 to 1,500.

Add in 500 a month for food and another 100 for a bus pass for the month.

I am sure that I am over doing the food. Since you will work in a resturant/bar you will probably get cheap or free food.

I think expenses will be between $1500 and $2000pl a month.

It also depends on what you need for excitement. I will say that many towns have no night life or excitement what so ever.
