Life / So it's hit me too, isolation in Poland [46]

Join some sort of group or something. Get out there and meet the Poles. They are pretty friendly people. If you work then you should get to know somebody.

Love / I'm pregnant by my Polish boyfriend but he wants me to abort it! [132]

dont listen to any of this rubbish from a bunch of strangers

of course but why in the world would someone post such private matters on a public forum? You would assume they would talk to someone close to them first. Sometimes people ask questions and keep asking until they hear the answer they are looking for

Work / Interview at a Callan School [204]

Ah yes I had a student today trying to tell me that two words had the same meaning when in fact they do not. She was insistent that she was correct. She is paying me cash so if she wants to be right so bad than so be it. She is still wrong though.

Love / Should I Be Nervous About Going to Poland? Black female dating a Pole. [158]

The old people just aren't used to foreigners. They lived behind the iron curtain for such a long time and were isolated. Many of them are brainwashed by Radio Maria into racism. You might want to lay off the public affection while here. As well if you do see a black/white couple its always the guy who is black. If you are in a big city like Warsaw obviously you will have less attention shown to you then in a smaller place. There are a lot of racists on this forum so dont let them throw you off. They arent going to do much most likely here but dont expect it to be like western europe or america just because they just are not used to foreigners let alone black women. You will find many of the younger educated class quite open and friendly to you. I thought it would be a bunch of skin heads running around here and it just isnt like that. The Poles are pretty cool and who really cares what some ole lady says?

News / Should Poles become a minority in Poland? [150]

our nationality is in our hearts and souls not in our skin tone or hair colour.

good for you. I think the younger generation of Poles are quite open to foreigners. Look at the Vietnamese. Polish people for the most part are quite welcoming of them and happily support their businesses and provide services for them. They come here and work. Their kids go to normal polish schools and speak fluent polish.

I'm told that Vietnamese kids in Poland outperform Polish children in Polish class.

that is normal in many respects for immigrants. look at the usa. the indian and chinese kids excell in school. The parents didn't immigrant so the kids could be average.

Love / Sick of a Certain Polish Lady - my boyfriends friend [34]

That day I told my boyfriend to stop contacting her

What is he your dog? Sit, speak, dont talk to her? You cant control people.

Do you guys have any similar experiences/ideas?

Thank God no. Sounds like you have absolutely no trust in your relationship especially since you broke into his computer. I stay away from crazy girls like you.

Do you think I should just let them be friends?

You forbid him to contact her and he continued to do so. You have no control over him obviously.

I think she's really desperate.

I think you cant see the forest for the trees. The guy is playing you for a fool. You must be young

she's considerably older (30)

get away from this guy. He is a player. Or play him yourself.

Life / Is it difficult to survive in Warsaw without any Polish knowledge? [30]

No its not difficult to be in Warsaw and not know Polish beyond the technical things like communicating with the internet installer and these type of people. learn a bit of polish and you can make some friends and they can help you during certain situations. In Warsaw many people under 40 speak some English. Just don't expect that they should speak English. If you say sorry my Polish isn't very good than they will help you.

USA, Canada / american girl and a polish boy, how to stay in Poland legally? [14]

illegally cross the border into the US

Thats either going to get you shot or in jail or at best living the life of an illegal immigrant in USA. Terrible advice. You shouldn't be concerned with your Polish situation as much as the Shengen zone. You have overstayed your Shengen visa not Polish. The best thing you can do is get a new passport and say the old one was lost. That might work for you. But truthfully after all I went through to get my permission to stay I have absolutely no pity or compassion for you. You should have dealt with the situation before it happened. But we all make mistakes. Getting married in Poland won't solve your problem as they will want to see your registration and permission to stay. The other option is to come clean and pay the fine but you probably don't want to do that...

Food / Vegetarian food in Poland? [83]

i went to christmas with a polish girl to her family in a small town and they were really cool about the whole veg thing. of course it was christmas eve but even on christmas day there was food for me to eat and nobody even made any thing of me being veggie. Its a personal choice and I dont preach either. nothing more irritating than a whiny preachy veggie. live and let live. lead through example. actions speak louder than words

Food / Vegetarian food in Poland? [83]

Greenway is much tastier

I was told by my Polish veg friends that Greenway cooks their food at a cental location where they also cook nonveg food and that the owner himself is not veggie. Maybe not important for some veg people but for me it is...

I wore Indian attire

cmon now what did you expect? That people wouldn't take notice? There are not so many foreigners in Poland even in Warsaw let alone foreigners wearing traditional clothes.

Work / New English 'teacher' in Poland (I have no qualifications). [119]

Remember to have a chat

Good advice. These people are paying you so its important to know what they want to get out of the classes and to remember that as you continue the classes. Its actually much easier to teach higher level students (at least for me) as they don't require grammar. I have a degree and background in business so I mainly teach high level corporate students. I don't use books but current event exercises and articles from the economist for the most part. Try your best to keep the classes interesting and entertaining. Coffee and tea helps the students stay interested. The first class is a meet and greet so find out some things about them and their interests so you know what direction to focus your teaching and have some general exercises to go through. Some type of aptitude test is good as well. Maybe have some entertaining story about your life to tell. Its good to be a bit nervous. It means that you care. If your knowledge of grammar is poor, then you can advertise yourself as a conversational English teacher.
