Ironside:
sjam:
I think even you will agree a huge number of these also had "Made in USA" stamped on them ;-)))

nope. Most likely "сделано в СССР"!

Nope: Spitfires and Hurricanes sent to Russia had "Made in England" let alone all those US planes "Made in USA" and those 51000 Jeeps that were exported to Russia under the Lend-Lease program ;-)

Some of the US and British planes Stalin was sent:

P-39 Airacobra single-engine fighters - 4719
P-40 fighters - 2397
P-47 fighters - 195
Hurricane single-engine fighters - 2952
Spitfire single-engine fighters - 1331
A-20 twin-engine light attack bombers - 2908
B-25 twin-engine medium bombers - 862

From USA:

3,734 tanks
10 mine sweepers
82 smaller boats
210,000 automobiles
3,000 anti aircraft guns
1,111 oerlikon guns
17,000 motor bikes
991 million cartridges
1.2 million Km telephone cable
245,000 military telephones
257 million oil refinery,electrical equipment
5.2 million boots
2 million tons of food

Shipped to Russia June 22 1941 to April 30th 1944 From UK:

5,800 Planes
4,292 Tanks
12 minesweepers
103,000 tons rubber
6,000 machine tools

Shipped from Canada:

1188 Tanks
842 Armoured cars
One million shells
36,000 tons Aluminium
208,000 tons grain

Enough to allow Soviet industrial production to recover from early German successes and meet the increased equipment requirement Soviet forces needed to defeat the Nazis on the Eastern Front.[/quote

Where did you get these figures from ? Please can you provide link if on the internet.

Love / Polish men (guys) - foreign women (girls)? [21]

I think in general European men are all much of a muchness :0)

It looked that way on saturday night. Myself and other half went to a polish nightclub in stratford / east london. Although would say it was probably 50% polish and the others mainly from eastern european countries.

" much of a muchness" 50 or so girls on the dance floor at anyone time. I don't think I saw more than 5 guys on the dance floor. This from 23:00 - 05:00

" much of a muchness" I won the longest hair competion. It's just off my colar.

" much of a muchness" Sporadic outbreaks of violence. Hourly on the perimiter of dance floor.

" much of a muchness" Shellsuits galore !!

............the dancing though, all them girls and baiscally no-one made an effort.

Also the Beevor was an ex Army captain and a well respected historian. This antagonised them even more.
I can see how a book written by a historian would antagonize some Russians. Should they ever get over their brainwashed views, do suggest Astolphe de Custine's Letters from Russia. Written in 1839, it is probably the best yet insight into the Russian mindset. Strongly recommended by...1jola.

Shall take a read of that. Whats interesting is these folk have been in the UK for over 8 years. Academically at least they come accross as quite bright.

Thats a great book, could not put it down. " Berlin The Downfall" is the follow on. Equally as good I reckon.

What's interesting is....... We had some russian friends / aquaintance's come to visit a few months ago. They saw Stalingrad on the bookshelf. Flicked through it for no more than ten seconds and declared " utter rubbish, western propaganda". I explained that in the first few pages it explains that the book took ten or so years in the making. The author had travelled through Russia to collect and collate the context and most of it came from russian sources / survivors etc. Also the Beevor was an ex Army captain and a well respected historian. This antagonised them even more. It transpired that thier view being......... a factually correct history book dipicting russias involvment in WW2 could only be written by a russian. Interesting.............as in how they think / thier mindset. The guy a lawyer and the girl a teacher by the way.

History / Western Europe and America vs Russia WWII - chances of Poland being saved [494]

When the two great armies faced each other after the fall of Berlin should they have continued fighting it out for total World dominance?

The Allies were soon to develop nuclear technology - a sure winner. Poland and all the other coutries devoured by Russia could have been saved!!

Even without the nuclear bomb I wonder who would have won.

I dont really do hypothetics but this ones quite interestning. Communism may have been crushed, Nazism instinct.

To some extent this is ongoing. The gun / armies being replaced by $$$s and American corporations. Hence there is now a global Amercian culture / influence almost everwhere.

The collapse of the soviet union was predetermined by sharp falls in world oil prices. Somthing which at the time the soviet union was reliant upon for revenue with regards to upgrading and arming the red army. There is a theory that at the time oil prices were orchestrated / manipulated to have this effect. Hence Oil / $$$ replaces the bullet.

Love / Polish People on Cheating? [39]

Very true, marriage is for a reason and it shouldn't be jeopardised by primitive lust. Yes, of course you can love another woman at the same time (the feeling I mean) but standing by your decision is vitally important.
There's a few guys in the office here who on a friday regulary go to the local " sauna bar" aka ********** before going home to wife and kids. This now has become a formality and on a friday at 3pm presides over everything else. In a dark humour sort of way I do find this amusing. I would not call myself old fashioned......but I couln't do this.

moderator / editor ....why did you ******** out the word that rymes with " door mouse". please let people say it as it is ....not exactly offensive.

If the word you wrote was replaced with * when you posted then it was done automatically by the word filter not manually.

Love / Polish People on Cheating? [39]

It's not a cultural thing. If both care about each other they will try hard to work out their relationship problem. If both are willing to forgive each other a very strong relationship can develop.
On the other hand some couples are staying together for the sake of their children and are tolerant towards each other until children are grown up or maybe even afterwards because of housing shortages in Poland. It's like an agreement between them and their marriage is an "open" marriage - if you know what I mean.

you say " if both are willing to forgive each other a strong relationshio can develop".
I'm sorry mate, if married and one cheats on the other then the line is crossed. Forgive, yes, forget no. The marriage is over and both have to move on, things will never be the same. Trust has gone = very little left. Sad but true. There is this over-romantisised idea that we/they can cuddle / talk and work things out...............but in reality .....it never goes away.

Love / Confused English man: is she stringing me along or is she confused? [62]

One year on and this situation is still going on. I returned from Poland last year and stopped phoning her so much. I was getting on with my life just fine. Then, a couple of months ago she invited me to go on holiday with her.

In these 4.5 years has the relationship reached the bedroom. ???

where you live is same area as me ( E11). You don't see that many Polish girls with black guys. The ones that I know who do it's because they are flat mates and not in a relationship. However you could be mistaken for thinking they were as always in the shops or walking up the high road together.

Love / If a guy was nice? [42]

SzwedwPolsce:
Probably over 95% of Polish woman (at least in Poland) have a white husband/boyfriend or is dating a white guy.
Wow….that is a surprise because judging the way Polish women are behaving in the UK, you could be forgiven for thinking the opposite!

what part of the uk are you refering to ? You do see a few Polish girls with black guys where i live in Leytonstone East London. However it must be said it is not exactly North Norfolk and the majority of blokes are black.........well black or half cast.

If a guy was nice, said the right things at the right time, and treated her with respect........Is it then possible that a Polish women could ever consider dating a White man for a change? It's just you don't see it that often these days!

where do you live ?

Love / Age difference in our relationship. I'm 41, my girlfriend is 27. Common in Polska? [57]

......but life is a little bit more complicated than that. Take for example the two girls i mentioned ( i know them to say hello but not all thier personal circumstances).

It could be the case where they are moving on because they are of the belief that they have found somone with better material prospects. ( which in my opinion would be wrong). On the other hand they could be moving on becasue thier husbands are alcoholics, no job and sat in front of tv all day. ( in which case then they would be justified to look for somone else).

Not saying it makes it right. Just saying that it goes on........on both sides of the fences so to speak.
In this case the two ladies in question picked up the language very quickly, started socialising quite alot ( as now there was no language barrier) anf basically changed direction with there lives.

To be honest from what I see here in London it is the other way away. The two cleaners where i currently work have recently left thier husbands for english guys. Two years ago when they both came over neither could speak english. They have changed beyond belief ( in confidence etc). I don't think the guys made much effort with learing the language. I think this to be half the problem.

Having been married for a good 20 years to an independent high flying Wester girl you can imagine how I crave for such great Eastern promise!!! Go for it Marc boy

They are sat all around me in Canary Wharf ( high flying western girls). All like somthing of a game show. It's not for me.
