Food / A good name for a Polish bar? [55]

Still think 'Bar Kac' is best. It would be great name for a bar in Ilkley in Yorshire in the UK

On Ilkley Moor, Bar Kac
Groan - sorry but it is Friday

If you're not from or living in England you won't get this but don't worry - you're not missing much.

Life / Moving to Krakow, question about life costs [27]

sheesh kebab

Shish kebab (şiş kebap in Turkish) is a wooden or metal stick (a skewer in Turkish) with small cubes of any kind of meat, fowl, fish, fruit, or vegetable (usually a combination) which is roasted on a grill. The name literally means 'skewer of grilled meat' in Turkish.[2] Typical vegetables included are eggplant, tomato, bell pepper, onion and mushrooms. The similar Greek food is called Souvlaki or Kalamaki.

(I hate the toothpaste squeezed in a half ....geez )

One of the greatest mysteries for men is why women are obsessed with toothpaste tubes. What's the big deal? Sigh we're from Mars and you're from Venus

UK, Ireland / Want to meet up with a Polish in Blyth [37]

Hallo. I am also looking for a nice young Polish girl to share my life. She must be living in my street as I am too fat and lazy to get off the couch too much. I have much to offer my Polish Princess: a small bed-sit apartment just between the railway line and the motorway, a 14 year old Ford with most of its doors intact, a rudimentary education and I sometimes use a knife and fork. I have some hair left and even some of my teeth are original. I only drink to excess. I like all animals, especially between two sides of a bun. I always leave the bathroom in a mess and never put the top back on the toothpaste. Hopefully I will hear from you soon.

Life / Which school to send my kids in Lodz? Private or public? [18]

There is the British International School in Lodz. Don't know too much about it but I know they have a web site as my friend looked into it before his job went to warsaw rather than Lodz

The bar will be in Michigan

Too far away for me. I hope it is a roaring success for your friend. I am sure the more sensible members of this forum will be on later to give you some great names:)

Also, any Polish drinks would be helpful

There is a thread here on the forum about Polish drinks. Check it out if you haven't already

oldie

Er does this mean that I have quoted some older language or have you sussed out how ancient I am?:)

Is kac the right word for hangover. If so Kacs bar is a goer. It has a ring to it. Only problem id that we refer in English slang to Cack to mean naff as in cack handed - no good.

Life / Are Polish People Racist? [1037]

look at the caste system in India, surely that is a combination of classism and racism.

Too true it is. I remember laughing at the time India lead the protests against South Africa being in the Olympics. I know the caste barriers are less strict now but they still exist.

Love / Matrix says that POLISH GIRLS= NOTHNIG SPECIAL [279]

I,ve watched this thread and kept quiet until now. Maybe it's because I've just had a few glasses of wine after signing a contract that I've worked b****y hard on for nine months but I am now moved to make my contribution on the subject of this thread.

In my far from humble opinion Polish girls are beautiful, charming, considerate, perceptive, loyal, feminine, intelligent, resourceful, determined, loving and kind. On the downside they can be stubborn and spend far too much time in the bathroom getting ready to go out. Oh and they tend to buy far too many pairs of shoes.

For the mathematically inclined I am honour bound to point out that the sample that this opinion is based upon is statistically insignificant (i.e. one). Love you hun

History / Poland has paid £68 Million for helping UK in WW2 [168]

Well said Globetrotter

Tis the wisdom of the Ancient :)

I can't help but be impressed but the quality of some of the posts in this thread. Just goes to prove that it pays to pay attention to younger people and reaaly listen to them. Many people of my age dismiss them too easily.

Law / Outsourced jobs to Poland [9]

I don't think Polish firms LOVE bureacracy but it is a management style that they have inherited and like for all business change it takes time to adopt a new style and culture. In the organisation that I worked for the reluctance to take decisions came from years of being a state owned monopoly. As time goes by, a new breed of managers emerges and more modern management techniques come into play this will change. The Polish have a huge pool of well educated, intelligent and hard working people, particualrly the young ones, who will make Poland an economic force. Of that I have no doubt. The West will have a fight on its hands. Just look at the nuumber of Poles who have already made great strides in their recently adopted homes.

History / Poland has paid £68 Million for helping UK in WW2 [168]

from what i was told

There is a serious point to be made here. We can only comment upon what we have learnt from studying History. The intrepretation of events given is often slanted towards the benefit of the country where you live. For example, I grew up knowing about the German destruction of cities in England such as Coventry in WWII but events like the apalling destruction of Dresden were glossed over. Unless you have the time and inclination to probe deeper it is easy for the first impressions to becomd de facto facts. That is why it is so interesting to take part in debates such as these. A wider perspective is invaluable.

Law / Outsourced jobs to Poland [9]

Most of the outsourcing from the UK and Germany for call centres initially went to the Czech Republic. Poland is now the up and coming location for both call centres and business process outsourcing. There is a big move away from using the Far East now in the UK. Language problems have been a factor. I also know quite a few UK companies who have made Poland their number one manufacturing or assembly centre. Mostly small to medium ones.
