Language / Praca vs robota [16]

sometimes i used a word robota, sometimes praca... and i had an office job. I'd say these words are interchangeable, but generally speaking robota is informal and i wouldn't use this word in front of my boss :D

Work / 5 months looking for a job in PL and nothing! suggestions? [22]

I have to disagree, for fresh-graduated programmers this is the salary expectation, but for IT project manager or Senior Project lead it is not.

no, you don't have to...

informatyk - a guy with general computer knowledge, kinda helpdesk guy - fix computers, printers etc etc - basic stuff

you as an IT project manager should earn more than 6000zl per month but I'm not sure if there are companies who would hire non-polish speaking IT project managers... especially now - crisis thing....

Work / 5 months looking for a job in PL and nothing! suggestions? [22]

I'm not after the 4000zl/month jobs, I was offered this from Comarch which I find pretty embarrassing.

what is your specialization? I'd say that for most people that call themselves 'informatyk' this salary is more than average in Poland.

News / Microsoft Poland whitens a black face in its advert [130]

This country is too racist and the mentality is really bad.

it has nothing to do with racism... they wanted to have an ad that typical Polish person could identify himself with - it's normal marketing thing. Guess how many Polish people would identify themselves with black person? Not many! Why? Because we're white, almost everyone around us is white and we used to see white people.... and try to understand - this is not racism, we don't have anything against black people... geez, some people are just overreacting.

Life / Are Polish people absolutely obsessed with money? [30]

Thing is it's not rude in Poland, it's normal.

things change... it's not normal to ask about salary anymore. I live in Warsaw now and I would say that many people would feel uncomfortable if you would ask them about salary. Though I would say that asking thing like 'how much did you pay for it' it's still quite normal.

Life / Are Polish people absolutely obsessed with money? [30]

As someone said before... money is often the only (or at least main) reason for moving abroad so I think that there is nothing unusual that many Polish people would be glad for an opportunity to work overtime for an extra fee. Another thing - I wouldn't ask someone how much s/he earns since it's not my business... on the other hand I wouldn't mind answering this question as I don't consider this as rude or sth.

Life / Why Poles don't use Facebook? [43]

hat's the main reason ppl in PL are not using facebook

and why we should use it? Just one another stupid social site... sorry, that's my opinion and I don't like/use any of them (what a waste of time!).

Love / Why are more Polish girls marrying Americans? [77]

Why more polish girls are marrying Americans?

because they're free and can do what they want... and also more and more young people know English good enough so there is no such thing as language barrier anymore.

Travel / Thinking about having a roadtrip in Poland... [41]

i can recommend:
- Bieszczady (
- Zwierzyniec and generally Roztoczański Park Narodowy, Susiec (szumy)
- pojezierze łęczyńsko-włodawskie (many nice lakes)

I would also recommend bike trip through Poland - it would be much more interesting... you can take your bike into the train. just select 'carriage of bicycles required' checkbox when choosing your train: rozklad-pkp.pl/?q=en/node/143

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bieszczady_Mountains
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roztocze_National_Park
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polesie_National_Park

in my opinion these places are much more interesting than visiting big cities like Gdansk, Krakow etc

Life / How much Zloty to have an average life in Poland? [98]

My girlfriend has got Magister from U.Jagiellonski but she's worried that she won't be able to earn much more than 2500pln a month. Is she under-optimistic about the state of the Warsaw job market?

having MSc means nothing in Poland... that's just a prerequisite for almost any job... now talk about her specialization, experience, professional certifications and so on...

Law / Selling on Allegro from UK [19]

No problem... to be honest with you - I don't think that selling compuers (or parts) in Poland is a good business opportunity. There are plenty of computer shops in Poland, some well-known online ones and generally speaking prices are quite low... it's hard to believe that you will have much lower prices... and what is important many people want to be sure that they can return some broken devices without any problems... that's why many of them prefer to buy things in local/well-known computer shops...

I have no idea what is the best business to invest in in Poland at this time... maybe someone else will give you some ideas.

Law / Selling on Allegro from UK [19]

yes... in theory our law require to attach Polish instruction to every electronic product... but usually say motherboard vendors give manuals in several languages so it shouldn't be a problem.

Law / Selling on Allegro from UK [19]

No, not exactly the same. The letters are the same but not the symbols and symbol locations.

this is what we use - okay, it's US-like (dollar instead of pound):

keyboard

Law / Selling on Allegro from UK [19]

Thanks for the clarification. I was thinking there would be special keyboards with the special polish characters wriiten on it...

no problem... yes we have special characters in Polish language but they aren't written on the keyboard... every pole knows that if s/he want to write (for example) ł character then s/he have to press right alt + l

that's it :)

anyway that was a good clarification. Maybe instaed of going with whole systems, i could do only parts

yeah... it could make the price a bit lower and your auctions would be even more attractive.

Law / Selling on Allegro from UK [19]

There is no such thing as polish keyboard :-) We use the same ones as you in UK/US - English qwerty.

and you can sells computers without operating system or with linux installed ... just write it clearly in your auction.
