USA, Canada / Come to Polish Carousel in Windsor! [6]

Every year in Windsor we have a Carousel of Nations fest, there are about 25 countries with dancing, food and entertainment set up all around Windsor, the only time this city is ever interesting (if your under 19) is when the carousel comes. Last year was the first time I went-I've never had so much fun in my life! The dancefloor is absolutely packed but nobody seems to care:P (even if you smash into them hehe). There is lots of amazing food by day...and lots (LOTS) of drinking by night, this year I'm pretty sure its the weekend of June 22nd but I'll post a new post when I'm sure. Pozdrawiam Kelsey

Language / (part 2) Polish Language Pronunciation - Sample Words and Phrases [311]

Merged: Infinitive Form/Indicative Mood

Hello again, I'm trying to organize all my notes about Polish grammar (but theres so many!), and I have a question:

Are the verb endings in the infinitive form any different from those of the imperative mood?

Dziękuję za pomoc:)

Life / "3 Year Tattoo" in Poland? [13]

My friend told me that when she goes to Poland there are these 3 year tattoo things..are there?!? She's kind of strange and some of her stories about Poland have been untrue so I'm reluctant to listen to most of what she has to say about the country, so someone tell me the truth!

Language / Learning verbs - which tenses to learn first? [5]

The present forms of verbs aren't hard to learn at all-its all basically a matter of usage. When you speak English or hear other people, try to think of how it would sound in Polish. I used to try to learn 5 or 6 verbs a day, good luck!

Language / Learning verbs - which tenses to learn first? [5]

I'd say present tense is the easiest way to start, if you have to cram it in in such a short time. As long as you use some kind of reference to time (you don't have to have the exact conjugation of a verb in the past tense for people to know what your talking about), everything will be okay:) From my experience, and I think alot of people would agree-start with learning the most common verbs, ex: być,chcieć, wieć. Powodzenia!

Life / How will I be treated in Poland by Polish people? I'm an English person. [26]

My boyfriend and I are moving to Poland-Gdańsk-when I'm finished university:). I'm leaving on June 29th this year for my first trip to Poland (well my first trip..ever!). When I first started learning Polish I was so scared that when I went there, people wouldn't like me because I'm an English speaker, but the first time I tried speaking to Polish people here (Canada) I got so much praise hehe. There hasn't been any other culture that has showed me as much respect as Polish people have. One time, I walked into Wroclaw Plaza, a little European market in my wasteland of a city, and everyone was so nice. I went up to buy some kielbasa, trying to remember what it was that my boyfriend told me to say, and ended up spewing out the most tangeled sentence ever. Nonetheless, the older lady behind the counter just smiled and helped me out. For some reason people here hate Poles...and all foreigerners in general. It's very sad...

Language / Use of prefixes in f.s tense/rules for forming them? [23]

Hello again pl forum. I'm a little confused about the rules for forming the f.s tense. I know you can [to a certain extent] add "będę" before the infinitive of some verbs to form the future, but there are others; ex: powiem, posłuchaj, przetanczyć. Can somebody please give me a general rule for deciding which prefix to use? Is it based on which one just simply...sounds correct? I'm guessing the perf/imperf is going to be thrown into this fun little mix too haha. Thanks in advance for the help, I've learned so much from this forum:).

Language / Imperative, prefix, reflexive verbs, imperfect form in Polish - 6 questions [14]

I'm with ya there, i was doing fine until i hit all these explanations. Now i have to go back and study English again, which I am mostly learning on here... from Polish people!

I know so many immigrants that speak such better English than me:S, the way they teach other languages in schools outside of N. America is so much better then the way they teach it here..theres no emphasis on learning another language at all, 90% of the people can't even get by in French.
