Life / Homosexuals in Poland / Hands off (PETITION) [797]

you use examples which cannot be compared... that's your way...

Of course they can be compared. The list of options.questions I proposed applies to any subject taught in school - field trips, group projects, help from family members. These are a vital part of educational process.

The only difference is in that post I concentrated on gay education which some long for.
OK, I may have forgotten to mention things such as cross dressing whatever the hell else it is that makes the gay day, but in essence my post was nothing but a comparison to usual educational techniques.

and in the far past it was more normal then it's right now...

Is that an argument?

In the "far past" women could not vote and were treated as property, and that was considered normal. In some countries still is.

How about that good ole' tradition? Would you like that to apply to you too?

Life / Homosexuals in Poland / Hands off (PETITION) [797]

If some are so keen on "educating" the world on gays, would that "education" include activities such as blow jobs? hand jobs? anal sex? vaginal sex?

Would there be "field trips" required? Practice at home? In the gym or in the washroom? Any group projects? Would groups be hetero or homo?

How would kids get a good grade? By blowing someone to climax in the shortest time or by "letting it in" without a lubricant?

In front of the class, or in the back room with the teacher?

What in case of a dispute? Would a student have to blow a head master? Or several members of an educational commission?

Would those a little behind with their gay studies be advised to practice their blow jobs with their parents? siblings? friends in the playground? Would there be after school self support groups?

And finally, would any gay qualify as a teacher, or would they have to have some formal education in the art of giving head and the other end?

Life / Stalin's baroque style in Poland's architecture [16]

I didn't realize there was such a thing as "Stalin's baroque".
Stalinist architecture strikes me as similar to Nazi architecture. Overblown, huge, inhuman. It has certainly little to do with baroque. If someone has any idea what baroque is, that is.

Shall we also celebrate alcoholism or any other human idiosyncrasy?

Are you comparing alcoholics to gays?

Alcoholism is a condition that can, up to certain point, be reversed as it is acquired some years into an individual's life. Therefore it is subject to medical science. Now, try to offer treatment to homosexuals and see how they are all up in arms.

Sorry, I forgot that's why we have sex education!! Because without it we wouldn't know how to produce? Right? Sex education covers the emotional as well as the physical. A fair amount of it is aimed at educating people in regards to STD's... why bother with this, if it is JUST about reproduction?

So what does it have specifically to do with homsexuality? What's so specific about gay education? The hole used to be potentially infected? Basic hygiene and precautions have been taught for quite a few decades now. You don't have to have sex, gay or straight, to get STDs.

And yes, sex is about reproduction. All the so called feelings and pleasures surrounding it are a bait. In homosexuality there is only the bait.

Cheese makers aren't discriminated against in the same way homosexuals are.

Hey, you're trying to twist it now, huh? That wasn;t the point, was it ? :)

I agree with you, it's not a reason to bash or persecute but many people still do. Thus the need for education. It's a pretty simple concept.

I can't see how you are so sure what they need. Some people accept gays some don't. Just like gays accept same gender sex but reject heterosexual sex. Freedom of choice and thought. Now, isn't that a simple concept?

You want to have it with another man? Go ahead. I don't want to see that or know any details. Keep your sex in your bedrooms, gay or straight.

I can certainly see the value of sex education though. If gays want to teach about it why don;t they concentrate on gays, and leave heterosexual kids to heterosexual education.

Why don't you look the word up:

I did.

Heterosexual relations are widely practiced. Homosexuals are a minority. Much like Polish in the US. It is not prevalent at all, even though there are a few millions Polish speakers in the country. Prevalent carries the notion of majority. Gays certainly do not prevail.

Love / Why do Polish Women Think They Know Better? [134]

Why do Polish Women Think They Know Better?

All women think they know better.
As a friend in the office says to her husband: you can be right or you can be happy, but no both.

As opposed to telling stories about how a man sticks his penis in womens vagina? It's simple sex education.

No, as opposed to learning how to spell, do the basic math (including personal finances), drive safely, find a job. Unless the job is a male prostitute.

Heterosexual sex has a purpose on the scale of the species. Homosexuality doesn't.

It's just a fundamental lack of understanding. I genuinely think people are scared of what they don't know/understand.

The usual B.S. line of attack.

I don't understand the process of cheese making and yet I am not afraid either of the the process, nor the result.

The same with gays. What is there to be afraid of? They may be as offensive to some as the various stages of cheese processing but they appear to be less complex than cheese.

Gays have been around forever. A little abnormality, mistaken identity like many others. Certainly not a reason to bash or persecute, but neither it is a reason for glory or deserving "education".

I was wondering about this myself. Homosexual behaviour is prevalent throughout the human race

Actually, it is not. If you understand the meaning of the word prevalent that is.

Language / kaboom, ruff ruff ruff, meow, or moo, or bang! - sound effects in Polish? [29]

sound effects in polish?

The term is onomatopoeia, words that imitate the sounds they describe.

A prime example in the Polish language is Julian Tuwim's Lokomotywa. In this case the awesome onomatopoeic effects were achieved not only by the choice of words but also by the rhythm of the poem.

Lokomotywa

Stoi na stacji lokomotywa,
Ciężka, ogromna i pot z niej spływa -
Tłusta oliwa.
Stoi i sapie, dyszy i dmucha,
Żar z rozgrzanego jej brzucha bucha:
Buch - jak gorąco!
Uch - jak gorąco!
Puff - jak gorąco!
Uff - jak gorąco!
Już ledwo sapie, już ledwo zipie,
A jeszcze palacz węgiel w nią sypie.
Wagony do niej podoczepiali
Wielkie i ciężkie, z żelaza, stali,
I pełno ludzi w każdym wagonie,
A w jednym krowy, a w drugim konie,
A w trzecim siedzą same grubasy,
Siedzą i jedzą tłuste kiełbasy.
A czwarty wagon pełen bananów,
A w piątym stoi sześć fortepianów,
W szóstym armata, o! jaka wielka!
Pod każdym kołem żelazna belka!
W siódmym dębowe stoły i szafy,
W ósmym słoń, niedźwiedź i dwie żyrafy,
W dziewiątym - same tuczone świnie,
W dziesiątym - kufry, paki i skrzynie,
A tych wagonów jest ze czterdzieści,
Sam nie wiem, co się w nich jeszcze mieści.

Lecz choćby przyszło tysiąc atletów
I każdy zjadłby tysiąc kotletów,
I każdy nie wiem jak się natężał,
To nie udźwigną - taki to ciężar!

Nagle - gwizd!
Nagle - świst!
Para - buch!
Koła - w ruch!

Najpierw
powoli
jak żółw
ociężale
Ruszyła
maszyna
po szynach
ospale.
Szarpnęła wagony i ciągnie z mozołem,
I kręci się, kręci się koło za kołem,
I biegu przyspiesza, i gna coraz prędzej,
I dudni, i stuka, łomoce i pędzi.

A dokąd? A dokąd? A dokąd? Na wprost!
Po torze, po torze, po torze, przez most,
Przez góry, przez tunel, przez pola, przez las
I spieszy się, spieszy, by zdążyć na czas,
Do taktu turkoce i puka, i stuka to:
Tak to to, tak to to, tak to to, tak to to,
Gładko tak, lekko tak toczy się w dal,
Jak gdyby to była piłeczka, nie stal,
Nie ciężka maszyna zziajana, zdyszana,
Lecz raszka, igraszka, zabawka blaszana.

A skądże to, jakże to, czemu tak gna?
A co to to, co to to, kto to tak pcha?
Że pędzi, że wali, że bucha, buch-buch?
To para gorąca wprawiła to w ruch,
To para, co z kotła rurami do tłoków,
A tłoki kołami ruszają z dwóch boków
I gnają, i pchają, i pociąg się toczy,
Bo para te tłoki wciąż tłoczy i tłoczy,,
I koła turkocą, i puka, i stuka to:
Tak to to, tak to to, tak to to, tak to to!...

What I am basically saying is that my educating people about the natural phenomonen of homosexuality, you are not going to 'create more gays'.

Education used to mean something. Now telling stories how a man sticks his penis in another man's anus is also education?

Truly, this world maybe reaching its end and we're all fvucked (pun unintended)

History / Why communism failed in Poland? [275]

Why communism failed in Poland?

It never did.

I didn't take roots in Poland in the first place so it couldn't have failed.
Communism failed in Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Romania etc.

According to Soviet rules Poland was in stage 1 of establishing communism, i.e. initial whack at it. The whack lasted some 50 years and then the Soviet ideology was whacked.

History / Polish Anti-semitism - origins? [186]

they rarely broke the rule of harbouring or helping the jews.

That went both ways.
It still baffles me why one ethnicity is expected to help the other if both are on the same list of nations destined for extermination. Not only that, it baffles me how come so few Jews helped other Jews.

As for the roots of anti-semitism in Poland, well, unlike in other European countries where either burnt Jews at stake, or kicked them out there were Jews in Poland.

Law / Linux, Unix, and Open Source in Poland [119]

you would have seen that I have tried it and based my decision on that.

I have no problem with your reasons, but I find it odd that you assume this is the end of it. Linux development is not complete. Your decision is.

just don't like the feel of it, the graphics look as they have been done in photoshop by a two-year-old.

That is different. I don;t like the feel of Mac. I'm OK with Linux and Windows.
As for the graphics, I'm not sure what you're refering to.

I am sorry if I hurt your 'professional' pride and don't agree with you

I am not the owner of Linux. I am a user and a happy one. I will neither win or loose regardless of what your approach to Linux is. The fact remains, it is a reliable and solid OS, and what's more, you and I would be unlikely to even have this chat here had billgates and the likes had their way.

Law / Linux, Unix, and Open Source in Poland [119]

I will never change my opinion on Linux

I don't think this is a statement worthy of an open minded person in an academic environment. I, for one, cannot make such statement about anything. I may fall in love with Windows one day if they get it right. The only sure thing in life that's certain is change.

As a non-technical guy, I think it boils down to two things. Firstly, practicalities. My mum, to this day, uses Lotus Pro. It's a dated integrated package but she finds it very user friendly. This is a major factor.

You touched upon the biggest problem with Linux. It;s not about how difficult it is to learn it, but how hard it is to unlearn Windows. As an ESL teacher you will have noticed that for sure. English is easy. So is Polish. The problem is not the new language, but the old one that interferes in the learning process.

My daughter, far from being a computer geek, has been using Linux for 10+ years now. Since she was 9 years old. She asked for WinXP last Summer. No problem. I gave her WinXP. Two months later, just about when she was go go back to school she asked me to install Linux back on her laptop. She finds Windows confusing, unfriendly and unstable. She doesn't understand the update and installation processes under Windows, and she much prefers Suse's way of doing this. A few clicks and the system is up to date. A couple more and a new app is installed. She also uses OpenOffice as her exclusive office software, since the time it was called Star Office 5.1. I use OpenOffice to fix corrupted MS Offcie documents such as doc or ppt.

As per her words, she has work to do and has no time for tinkering with all those malicious pieces of software that she suddenly realized exist in the Windows world.

Ask any Mac user. They will look down on Windows and Linux, even though Mac OS is based on a somewhat common root - BSD. Actually, so are some important parts of Windows' internals.

Law / Linux, Unix, and Open Source in Poland [119]

Still, the fact remains that it is a problem in connecting Linux networks with Vista ask any IT worker

I am one. No issues with connecting Vista to Linux and the other way around. The only issue in this scenario there is Vista is not an OS suitable for business. I still buy WinXP for those who need windows.

nonsense because I thought the whole idea of Linux was its flexibility in innovation.

It is and if you know how Linux developed and then how and what MS "borrowed" from it you know your statements are false. Also, if you only knew the amount of effort MS put into killing Linux. Every time Linux developers knock down all the new hurdles MS is throwing in, they face new challenges. The most serious aren't technical at all. Some of the best minds work on Linux development. The biggest problems is MS's legalese.

Moreover, what has been Linux's nature since the very start (modular kernel) is only now about to be use by MS. Windows is a huge blob of unwieldy code that even MS admits is just to hard to manage and maintain. Hence Vista and Windows 7 is MS's following in Linux's footsteps.

I won't go into the very internet standards. Luckily they failed and the Internet is still not controlled by them.

Language / POLISH OR RUSSIAN -- MORE MODERN? [20]

If by "modern" one understands the same as when talking about the first plane and jumbo jet then I really can't think of grounds to call one language more modern than another. You can say that some elements, or terms are less modern, or archaic within the same language. Otherwise each language is as modern as it needs to be.

Chinese is a language that is much older than English. Is it also more modern because it doesn't have plural forms?

Is Polish more modern than English because in Polish it takes only one letter "i" to express what takes 3 letters in English "and"? Is English more archaic than Polish because it wastes so many letter to express so few sounds?

The whole concept of simplicity (whatever that means in language) allegedly deciding about whether a language is modern or not is simply a silly one.

Law / Linux, Unix, and Open Source in Poland [119]

Now I am testing the new windows 7, which I have to say far outstrips anything that Linux can produce 'at the moment'.

Could you throw in some examples?

The inability to work with Word markup, problems with connecting to other OS machines, and difficulty in installing and updating software will mean that I'll be using Windows for the foreseeable future as I have no other choice for my translating company. :)

What are you talking about?
It's not Linux which has any kind of problems connecting to other OS'es. It's the other OS'es whose owners make everything possible to make that connectivity impractical.

Still, I use Linux at work in various capacities on a few servers. You use it too. Likely in your router and godknows what other devices. Not to mention this forum and google, and heck, most of the Internet in general.

Open source software if Free only if your own time is totally worthless.

It is obvious that you are confusing the idea of open source with $0.00.

What led to what? Perestroika to Solidarnosc or Solidarnosc to Perestroika?

- Solidarity was founded in September 1980
- Perestroyka is the Russian term (now used in English) for the economic reforms introduced in June 1987
- Berlin Wall - 1989, well, this is where Germans lacked their courage and waited for others to clear the way. Before that East Germans would sshit in their pants when around anything that had to do with Solidarity movement.

If Spanish and Irish were balcks of Europe in 80's... Poles are balcks of europe after joing EU.

All these are actually playing into the racist approach by the originator of this post.
What the fvck does it mean to be "blacks of europe"?
Black=fool?
Black=stupid?
Black=worthless?
Black=bad?

Where is the political correctness when you need it?
The title of the thread is offensive to both Poles and Blacks. Of course nothing will be done on the account of Poles being offended on this forum.

So... 'sup niggas?

News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

I've been quite happy to point out your lies about Polish concentration camps

But you failed to write they were run by Jews.
Isn't how you conveniently offer half truths, and thus end up telling lies.

On the same note, when some Polish citizen of Jewish extraction achieves something positive of note then he is a Jew. But when a [en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salomon_Morel] - Polish Jew runs a concentration camp then he is a Pole.

That sort of twisting is what makes you a liar and a dishonest scribe not worth no more than a spit.

News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

If Poland is sitting on riches they could send over they should tell us soon!
Russia is one of the biggest energy supplier and frankly we need them...
Poland should join Germany and the EU or they should offer another energy source instead. But they have nothing else to offer....it isn't as if they live by air - they are taking russian energy quite without any problems too!

BBoy, Poland has been blackmailed by the Russians a number of times after it joined EU and then NATO. It took a lot of political wrangling and convincing before EU politicians recognized that Poland indeed had reasons to complain in various areas of trade between Poland and Russia. To you it's unsubstantiated whining, to Poles, and to those in EU who care to look at things closely, it is Poland's legitimate concern.

I understand Germany needs energy supplies. All EU countries do. The problem is with bending over, mostly by the Germans lacking vision. What will Germany do in 50 years when oil and gas are gone?

And if the Russians talk about embargo, well... let them sell their oil elsewhere. We'll see how they'll do. Now is a good time too.

Well...I just see it as a perfect example of polish stupidity again, repeating what happend seemingly all over polish history again.

They let themselves be used for american purposes, but have to bear the brunt of the neighbours agression and displeasure.

Poland is a small and militarily weak country. What do you suggest? Kiss Russian butt? That's been tried and it didn't work too well. Stupidity would be doing the same thing again and expecting different results. That, it seems, was what Germans did having lost WW1 - they started WW2. Now, how stupid was that?

Really? Tell that to the Poles...

They want the shield, let them have it.
Why would you, as a German, be bothered? Do you really think that between the two evils Russians are the better option?

Well....they got it from the Soviets, their declared enemy not their allies!

Factual. not declared.

News / What did Poland get out of the wars and struggles for others? [1108]

Well...the american opinion doesn't count for much in my opinion.
Their foreign policy in the last years was rather confrontational and agressive, not to mention that they want to weaken the EU to stay the main political power player.

How would not installing the pipe under the Baltic Sea weaken EU?
How would dependence on Russian gas and oil would make it stronger?

To bad that the Poles agreed to be their pawns....they will get the same as always for being at the frontline - nothing!

Actually, Poland did quite a bit. From Germans too. Weren't you the one who complained about it a number of times?

Now, didn't Germans get anything for being American bitches after WW2?

This is a funny issue though. If Poles do something for nothing then they are declared fools. If they do something for a handsome return then they are called greedy bastards.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Harry
