Love / I just met a Polish lady & we like each other, but its complicated. [26]

T_V - relationships start and end, that's life. Don't feel guilty that you have met a woman who you feel more connected to than your current girlfriend, especially as you have already acknowledged that the relationship there is probably over.

You owe it both to your girlfriend and to your new lady to actually end the relationship you are currently in. If you start a relationship with this new lady, she should feel that it is indeed a new relationship and that everything with your other girlfriend is over and done with, she shouldn't feel like she is "hanging on" for anything.

You haven't really done anything wrong. You've realised your current relationship is finishing and you've been honest with your new lady and told her that until your previous relationship is sorted out, you won't go any further with her, your new lady will understand that, I'm sure of it. Good luck :)

UK, Ireland / WHY DO POLISH PEOPLE THAT COME TO ENGLAND CAN'T SPEAK ENGLISH? [118]

Seanus:

We don't value languages as highly as some of our European neighbours, unfortunately. Maybe the talent is there but the will isn't.

i think its because English is spoken in so many countries around the world that it makes the english reluctant to learn another language, i mean why, if everybody else speaks your tongue???

Seanus and Tornado, I think you are right, if there was more of a push in Brit schools to learn another language more people would take it on. I remember from High School (a while back ;) we had the choice of French or German. I think we got it twice a week. We started with a language in the late stages of Primary school but it wasn't a priority for the teachers and was only taught if there was a language teacher available to come to the school.

So yes, there does seem to be a hint of "everyone else speaks our language so why should we bother?"

As for Polish people not speaking English, that varies from person to person. I have a Polish friend who talks and talks and talks in English and speaks it very well (literally you can't make him stop talking) but a couple of other Polish people I know have poor English. Mostly though, the people in my Polish circle speak good, clear English but maybe don't understand "local" words.

I've come across a recently released CD (see it /Best-Polish-Songs-Ever-Various-Artists/). Can anyone tell me if the songs on this are any good? Or if it would be worth buying as a present for a Polish friend? What sort of music is it? Mixed? :)

UK, Ireland / Are the Poles in England hated? [450]

How about 5zl? :)

Hmmm, I may consider that... ;)

I can quite easily spot them from experiece, although some are a touch more subtle than others. There's nothing worse than posting an indignant reply to someone who is just getting off on it!*

Yes, when someone like that has a point to make, their minds won't be changed...

I bow down to your superior Mod status ;)

;) For 10,000,000 quid I'll reveal all :D

I was however just making a point. Zeus is clearly on a wind-up. Internet Fishing at its best. The best way to make it go away is to swim past the bait in my experience...

Yeah, I know. I agree with you. Ignore the troll, they soon get bored :)

Life / Bad opinion about Polish people - rumour or the truth? [90]

Whever you go in the world the guidebooks always say, "watch out for pickpockets and thieves" and detail parts of cities where it's not safe etc. Usually it's public transport and places where you might go "after dark"... :)

In reality, tourists look like tourists and are usually easier targets for thieves. :)

Life / The strangest things in Poland [468]

Has anyone else run in to this situation?

I've heard of this but it wasn't Poznan. Seems like if the payment wasn't made then when you return there is something wrong with your car, flat tyres or a scratch or broken windscreen wipers or something small that lets you know, you should have paid the fee.

Personally, I wouldn't pay it.

I think you'll find this discussion has been done to death commonsense. As has the voting one. And the racism one. You'll find it all with the use of the search engine.

Travel / Krakow going down the toilet! [184]

Nah, I can't be bothered with this dressing up thing. I missed one hen weekend recently because of what the bridesmaid (therefore organiser) wanted us to dress up in.

The Aberdeen one was the most chilled out. The Saturday night was supposed to be the "big" night but we were all in bed by midnight because we'd been busy all day, walked for miles, shopped, bowled, had a meal.

Travel / Krakow going down the toilet! [184]

Women tend to go to Spain....or at least somewhere hot

The corresponding Hen-night will be in Spain as per.

Er, I wish someone would point this out to my friends then...most recently I've been to Aberdeen and Newcastle for "hen weekends" and never in the Summer months either... :)

Travel / Krakow going down the toilet! [184]

It doesn't have to be about greedy club owners, just people trying to make a bit of cash. They're exploiting the fact that Poland (Krakow in this case) is the "place to be" at the moment. As someone mentioned previously, next year it will be some other country.

I'm not excusing British louts, believe me I find them an affront to the country. Out of the thousands of British people who visit foreign countries every year the majority (say 90%) are mature and well-behaved. It will always be that minority that everyone picks on though. What about all the British tourists in Krakow who are not loutish and rowdy but there for the sites, the culture etc? Do you think they condone their countrymen's behaviour? A few of them may have been put off visiting though, thanks to the stereotyping that's been thrown around.

Out of interest, do you find that it's just stag parties or are there many hen parties there as well?

hullo [Guest]

I'll never figure out why, when people have an opinion they think is valid they don't use their own member name...?

As for rowdy Brits, yes, quite often a stag party nowadays consists of getting horrendously drunk and being anti-social (for some anyway). Then again, if you are working in a hotel and someone phones up and asks for accommodation for 15 blokes what are you thinking about? The reputation of Krakow? Or the money coming into the hotel?

It happens in the UK also that some clubs/pubs will continue selling alcohol to people who are clearly way past needing it. So don't imagine that every club in Krakow will turn away 15 drunk men with cash to spend. Especially on a slow night...

Yes, you're right, it is wonderful and it's good that the OP returned to tell us that contact had been made.

Good luck to Peter Swiec, I'm sure there much to be exchanged between you and your cousins :)
