News / Poles honour 'Cold Warrior' Ronald Reagan [92]

no government can survive for long when domestic resistance is overwhelming)

This is what keeps a goverment in check.

I wouldn't be so hard on Reagan...

Great point, many feel the President can and should just step in and police the world and this is not ther case.

Poles honour 'Cold Warrior' Ronald Reagan

Polish authorities have erected a monument to US president Ronald Reagan, feted for his crusade against communism and seen by some as having hastened the collapse of the Soviet bloc, reports said Tuesday.

I wish I were 27. This may not personally affect you but many lost family in a very brutal manner. Mother, fathers, grandmother and grandfathers and so on to the still living. This was not to very long ago and under "communist Poland" the victims could not speak of the crimes. In order to have a trusting relationship this part of history must be dealt with.

Read the responses in Poland news from the readers. You cannot just tell victim's that grew up without loved ones to stay quiet.

Airen,

Can I ask if you had a sex change, it says your male but your avitar looks female?

You either stay in the past or you move on. Take your pick.

IMO This subject must be dealt with as it continues to hurt relations. We are talking 100,000 vs. 50 to 100.

Ukraine makes it a crime to deny 1932-33 while telling Poland to move on seems silly.

History / massacres of poles in volhynia 1943 [67]

President Lech Kaczyñski has been evasive about the 1943 Volhynia massacre, claims RZECZPOSPOLITA.

Sixty-five years ago Ukrainian nationalists murdered thousands of their Polish neighbours in what is now Western Ukraine. RZECZPOSPOLITA criticises Poland's president, Lech Kaczynski, who didn't attend the ceremony commemorating the victims of the so-called Volhynia massacre last week. In his letter to participants, Professor Kaczynski used a kind of newspeak, avoiding words such as crime or genocide. Lech Kaczynski has been regarded as a patriot and a politician always keen to defend the historical truth. Is he now ready to forget the Volhynia massacre in the name of the Polish-Ukrainian reconciliation? If yes, why not forget the Katyn massacre and make the reconciliation with Russia easier? Why not make concessions to Erika Steinbach and her vision of what happened during World War II and after it, asks a columnist of the newspaper, sarcastically.

News / America: Take your missile base and shove it! [116]

This is cultural issue not military.

Really it is both. Protection is of the utmost importance to Poland. It's a lesson we have learned the hard way. Protect the country. This is why telling a country to "Take your missile base and shove it!" is ignorant. The more Russia threaten's the more Poland should comprehend the dire need.

News / America: Take your missile base and shove it! [116]

So why should Poland or anyone else be at risk because of those IDIOTS that we chose as our leaders.

This has more to do with America owing Poland for they are there every time we needed them. If Poland does not get this with our help they will not be able to defend from (shall I say others) who feel they still own Poland.

The first strike will be on the missile bases

And who shall be manning this shield? You got it, good old US military until Poland feels confident in running it themselves.

News / America: Take your missile base and shove it! [116]

Why should Poland be subject to the first initial strike

Remember it was Poland that asked for our help, now it's a matter of how much help we can give.

The only people on here who usually favor the base are Polish Americans..

Could that be because we are here because Poland could not defend herself.

For all members who can read polish:

Thank you for the information. Just as I try to not place blame on Russian for the Soviets crimes, you must try to not blame todays Ukrainian's for the crimes of the past. I feel your pain and totally understand your hurt.

IMO What needs to take place is Ukrainian's (just as Russian's) needs to take responsablity for actions of their actions. How anyone can feel the past will be forgotten is beyond me. When this takes place a new relationship based on trust can begin.

It is a crime in Ukraine to deny the crimes of 1932-33. Yet they continue to do this. Poland has alot of information on the crimes as they have asked Ukraine to deal with this. Poland has made an apology for negitive behavior directed towards Ukrainian's, we still await for Ukraine to do the same, as they stated they would.

Berezovskiy

Is it Boris you are referring to?

Boris Berezovskiy Plot to Seize Power (Taken Question)
Question: Do we have any comment on the new charge against Boris Berezovskiy, who has been charged with plotting to seize power in Russia?

Boris Berezovskiy was granted political asylum from Russia in the United Kingdom. We defer to British authorities to examine any charges and to act appropriately under UK law.

Is this like saying your sorry? In the US "beg you pardon" is used if you bump into someone and I was unsure if this is how you use the term.
