News / Jews use American congress to pressure Polish government to PAY [63]

..Many more Slavs in the world than Germans, French, Italians or Khazars...Slavic revival and pride will lead to a renewal of European culture.

Are you sure???

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germanic_Europe
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavic_Europe

...now if you take out Russia....hmmm...much of european culture IS germanic anyhow.

History / What would Europe look like with Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian Commonwealth today [209]

To a point yes but none of these conflicts were so expensive to European progress as those started by Prussian Germany.

Prussian Germany was longer best buddy with GB than the other way around.
Prussian Germany helped free Europe from Napoleon, it was Prussians before Vienna too...get a grip on your anti Prussia bias man!

And you're dying out, afraid of self assertion after what you did in WW2 and slowly declining into a permanent secondary role untill taken over by Turks.

Wonder what this "dark soul" will do now....

History / What would Europe look like with Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian Commonwealth today [209]

Newscast to you, Russia is barbaric, the goverment belittles and exploits its own people and they still follow it, we could go on.

Russia isn't "barbaric"...no people is "barbaric", the government sucks more often than not but the people are more or less the same all over the world.

2 World Wars say i'm right,

Well...than you should point your mystics to France, Great Britain and especially Austria also.
Germany started because it wanted to honor it's treaty to Austria....what a "dark thing" to do!
But WWI had absolutely nothing to do with some "dark soul" but with a tough re-shuffle of hard political facts.

The polish commonwealth would had taken part in some re-shuffling too if they had been asked/been in existence...nothing to do with some "soul"-thingy.

And WWII was the continuation of some unfinished business from WW1.

historical and cultural heritage if you will.

Actually you try to point 12 years of madness to heritage of 2000 years...YOU MUST BE KIDDING!

What about the military heritages of exploitations, war and conquests of GB or France or Spain or any other Imperium??? I can't hear you talking about those "dark souls".

I bet if Poland would had bordered France you would talk today about the "dark soul" of the french people because Poland would had suffered not the Germans but the French...

There is no "dark soul"...just power politics and in the case of a successful polish commonwealth you would had shown your "dark soul" to the world too...

To assume otherwise is ridiculous!

I can't take you seriously if you are talking like that Sokrates, sorry! :):):)

Why USA is the superpower while Czech republic is a meaningless little state? Countries and nations are different, their potentians are different which is why their history is different.

It's a bit like a card game...reshuffling - they are given out to all, some get good cards, some get bad - then the poker starts.

Some are more successful than others...but then cards are mixed anew...another round.

The US became a superpower after Europe killed practically itself and took itself out of the game.
Before that it was quite isolationist and not really a number.
Today's Czechia was once a big number in the middle ages...under another name...
Germany has already several ups and downs behind her....so what!

History / What would Europe look like with Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian Commonwealth today [209]

We, the Europe would be much much better off if Commonwealth never fell, there would be less wars,

Now that is your assumption only....why should your construct more peacy then all the other european tries???

If the Commonwealth never got into the crisis of 1700-72 it basically means that there would be no Germany, Austria or Russia in the shape and situation that caused WW1.

Unreasonable assumptions Sokrates.
If there is a reason for the development of national consciousness and fights for independence than it's the feeling of being opressed by foreigners...

Germany's unification was born during the wars of liberation against napoleonic france.
Polish uprising were against prussian Germany and so on.
Why do you think a polish hegemony would keep all the other peoples under their thumb forever???

All in all Germany not being able to excersize its darker part of nature

Oh pleeeaaaaase.....
That is a no way when you really want to go into politics Sokrates, leave your f*ucking mystics out of it!

When you think of Poland as some kind of a "lightbringer" against the russian "barbarians" or the "dark soul" of the Germans you are a nutcase!

Sorry if that is news to you but Poland or Russia or Germany or any other european country are not that different...

The Polish commonwealth would and had their ups and downs as any other regime...and came to an end like any other else too!
Take your blinkers off...

News / Microsoft Poland whitens a black face in its advert [130]

It has nothing to do with someone making an error in the Microsoft world <as if > you 'd have to be pretty naive to think that would be the situation.

I'm just saying what they said someone had said...

News / Microsoft Poland whitens a black face in its advert [130]

No. It wasn't. Wrong explanation. Try again for the grand prize :)

Darn! ...waits for insider news...

Explain to me: does the functionality of the product change once the colour of the person that sells it, changes?

Well...that's it how advertising works all over the world...they try to make a product interesting for a special audience - called "TARGET AUDIENCE".

If a product is for a young woman you (normally) don't advertise with an old man and vice versa.

You know that already, don't you... They don't advertise skin-whiteners in Europe with a black person or sun-tanners in Africa and Asia with a white person...

News / Microsoft Poland whitens a black face in its advert [130]

Reminds me about a campaign some years back by "smart" marketers in Germany too...I forgot the product but they put as background a "typical german family": A white mother, a black father and a mixed kid..

(Probably pointing out how a modern, fashionable, hip family has to look like - fitting to the "cool" product)

Wasn't very successful either btw. and did only run very short.

History / Silezia: Breslau, Wroclaw or something else? [16]

Fascinating piece of land and history!

I remember my grandmother spoke still this german-silesian dialect...it died out now with her generation.
(Maybe some traditionalists in some Schlesien club try to keep it alive)

News / Poland Remembers start of WW2 [200]

The point was (the one you seem to miss again and again) is the difference between the performance of the german troops and the polish troops or the british troops and even the russian troops to the french troops.

Everybody fighted and won/lost but did fight well...but the French that is.
That's why the Battle of France gets nicked by historians as the "most humiliating defeat in history".

It isn't the case of the defeat but the "how"...that is so different...
Is your brain really so small???
Just look again at the numbers...you can comprehend them, can't you!
(I'm really starting to doubt).

If the French had fighted like the Wehrmacht in Russia, inflicting 3times the casualties inspite of being hugely outnumbered in men and material (what the french weren't!) the war would had found a quick end then already....

Not to mention that the whole year the Germans were busy in Poland the west flank was nearly totally open and the few german troops there would had been helpless to a french attack...they could just had marched in...it would had been over soon...but they didn't...

Oh and another tidbit you might not know:
Till the surprising (for every professional german officer that is) end of the Battle of France Hitler won against all his adversaries in the german general staff.

Till then he was distrusted and doubted and not a few Generals planned the sure coming debacle against the "grande army" to use as a possibility to be done with this insane corporal.

Well...as it was....this Battle made Hitler to a hero, an invincible war lord and his adversaries were made mute. He got free reign with everything now...no rational arguments worked anymore!

History / Silezia: Breslau, Wroclaw or something else? [16]

....
The term Silesian can also be applied in a more general manner to describe an inhabitant of Silesia, regardless of ethnicity...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silesians

I think that's about it.
The "real" Silesian developed over the centuries being a mixture of polish, german, bohemian roots.
And since the borders changed so often as did the ruler they developed a consciousness that was neither pure polish nor pure german nor chzech...but Silesian!

Didn't matter if the gov/King sat currently in Warsaw or in Berlin! :)

....
The constant shifting of Silesia between (alphabetically) Austrian, Czech, German and Polish control over several centuries resulted in the Silesians developing a separate culture that borrowed heavily from (alphabetically) Czech, German and Polish (and vice versa)...

For a poll about independence...no chance!
To many "real" Poles in Silesia now...

(Now if we would count all the Silesians in Germany and Czechia together with those in Silesia right now there would be a number...but I doubt that the majority would be vote for an independent Silesia and actually pack their bags...)

History / Silezia: Breslau, Wroclaw or something else? [16]

I get the feeling with Silezia it's the same situation.

I don't think so....the expellations after WWII changed all that. Silesia got mainly repopulated by Poles from the East so it's polish now.

It would be like the Jews re-claiming the ME after they were gone for 2000 years (or made to go).

The other (better IMHO) viewpoint would be to see the future of Silesia developing again to what it once was, the thriving center between Germans, Poles and Czechs (Bohemians if you so want).

It was for decades more or less the dreary, more or less homogenous borderland...that all changes now back to the better again.
(Not to forget that most of the re-settled eastern Poles were also different to the polish Silesians from before the war)

But it will be (and has to be) a natural development, with nobody "claiming" anything...

News / Gazeta Wyborcza: US Backing Off Polish Missile Bases [40]

I think they expected some preferred treatment...some kind of a special relationship if not deals and other rewards.
Poland got alot of flak from "'old" Europe for being so steadfastly pro-Bush.
Now they didn't even get the visa waiver not to speak of more real deals...and were outrightly snubbed at the WWII ceremony.

I would be pissed!

No...what I meant was I would like to know what you mean with "selling out"?
For example the Kaczinsky's did everything to brown nose Washington for years...for nothing in the end actually.

How would a Tusk "sell out" look like?

News / Poland Remembers start of WW2 [200]

Bagration - the death of Army Group Center was a greater defeat

You still don't get it, don't you!

336,573 Germans vs 1,254,300 Reds

495 Tanks and Assault guns vs 4,070 Tanks and Assault Guns

602 aircraft vs 6,334 Aircraft

2589 Guns vs 24,383 Guns

But still:

Red losses during Bagration:

770,888 men
2957 Tanks
2447 Guns
822 Aircraft

There is nothing humiliating about that defeat...the Germans made them pay! Every german stubblehopper, tanker, pilot inflicted much more damage to the enemy than the other way around.

What a "walk over" for the Soviets, yeah right...

But maybe you really have just not enough brain cells for that...
