Real Estate / Inheiriting property in Poland [7]

It would probably be cheaper to have a lawyer in Poland. But I think you'll have to pay about 40% (!) as tax to the Polish government if you inherit a property.

Life / Shipping or taking goods with you on the plane to Poland [10]

I shipped it UPS

That's surely the most expensive way (maybe besides Fedex) to ship stuff to Poland. If you live in NY, or Chicago area, the cheapest place is Polamer.com or Domashipping.com. I think one out of 1000 Poles living in the US would use UPS to send stuff to Poland.

And another (best) way would be to either personally take the laptop while flying to Poland or ask someone you know to ship it for you.

UK, Ireland / British taxpayers pay homeless Polish to go home. [184]

but we're not talking about tourist

I didn't start talking about "Joe Public", did I? If you cannot find a contra-argument, there's no need to get angry and use impolite words...

No they hire cheaper labour and charge the same to the person they doing the job for, only one winner matie! And it aint Joe Public!

I'm not sure what "Joe Public" has to do with it. Even so - why don't you close the borders against all tourists that come to visit the UK? How Joe Public directly profits from tourists visiting the UK?

We dont need more plumber and electricians in the uk modern apprenticships schemes have soared for these trades.

If that was true, why is there still demand for Polish plumbers and electricians? You don't mean the British companies hire workers they don't need?

I know polish people drive wages down

It's called competition. And competition is always good for the people in the long run. Thanks to immigrant workers you can buy goods and services for less. It all evens out.

It is hitting the british taxpayers pocket very hard.

On the other hand, British companies save a lot of money by paying Polish workers 50% less than they would have paid a British worker.

I'd suggest you to take as many stuff as you can (the one that you need of course) as in Poland goods are more expensive (sometimes much more) than in the US. Especially electronic stuff [make sure you have a transformer that works with Polish voltage), brand clothes, shoes, and a car :).

Real Estate / Zakopane skiing apartments - Sell or Rent?? [4]

Is it a new construction? If you invested a lot of money and can find a way to rent them, it would probably be a good idea to rent them..

Work / Work Ethic of Polish Workers [19]

I think Poles are very hard workers too. At least those who work abroad. Many of them work two shifts for a low salary and don't complain too much.

Workers in Poland don't have such strong work ethics; they like to slack at work sometimes. But it changes for better and those who have good jobs work long hours to make sure their boss is satisfied.

Law / Shipping port hubs in Poland? [9]

Is it a safe assumption that any city bordering the Baltic Sea has excellent shipping facilities?

Sure, as long as you mean Sweden or Germany ;). I wouldn't say the Baltic shipping facilities in Poland are excellent.... but they do the job.

News / Grumpy diplomacy hurts Poland [43]

EU should treat Poland on equal rights to the more established members.

On the other hand, a little more diplomacy of the Polish government officials would never hurt.

Travel / Warsaw travellers advice [22]

Rynek? :) - it actually applies to all Polish towns and cities; "Rynek" (the main square/market) is usually in the center of the town/city and there are most attractions there.

Travel / Warsaw travellers advice [22]

1. I'm not sure about camping sites in Warsaw.. Near Warsaw - maybe, not not in the city, I guess...

2. You won't have problems with that - many locations to buy local Polish food in Warsaw area.

3. Hmm - I'd focus on the well-known places first to be on the safe side.

4. No problems with that - night life in Warsaw is pretty much alive every day.

Life / Polish hooliganism in sport [141]

VETRA - LEGIA 8.07.07 Intertoto Cup (Legia will probably be banned from European Cups for at least a couple of years...).> Shocking and pathetic at the same time.

Travel / Polish Airports and Air industry are pathetic [32]

In my opinion, Poland should (and probably will) build at least 3 additional, international airports before Euro 2012. Currently the airport convenience in Poland is still in the XX century.

Life / Buying computer system in Poland [20]

Definitely, buy a computer in the US (if you're still in the US and can bring one with you). Because in the US computers are cheaper than in Poland at about 20%. Laptops are cheaper about 40%.

Life / Purchasing Fireworks in Poland [6]

For sure you can. If not from Poland, you can easily arrange one in the former CCCP country. Go to the Warsaw stadium ("targowisko") in Poland and you will get one by the end of the week). Seriously.

History / Communist Era in Poland: Some questions [28]

Should be nothing surprising. Times change - in the 70ties girls wore fake eyebrows too. But it has nothing to do with Poland in particular.

History / Communist Era in Poland: Some questions [28]

You can't buy a pair of ****ing blue jeans in any of those countries.

Maybe that's the reason why brand jeans (and clothes in general) are still very expensive in Poland.

History / Communist Era in Poland: Some questions [28]

Well, most Poles still like staying in lines - you could hear many interesting life stories while trying to get a bottle of milk back then. I remember when one of the "richest" residents of a village I lived in announced he's going to buy a TV (a color one). In order to do that, he would have to go to the capital of Poland (Warsaw) as in other places it was impossible to buy one. In the end, almost half of the village went with him on a bus as it was a great experience for them ;).

History / Communist Era in Poland: Some questions [28]

I don't miss the daily struggle, but these were good years in spite of the problems. You would eat bananas or oranges once a year, stay in line for a pack of coffee for 2 hours (then go back to the line to get another piece). Those who lived in the country were doing better than those from the cities (as far as food is concerned at least).

Life / Kat Polish Heavy Metal Group [6]

Yes, it was a well-known band in Poland back in the 80/90ties. It's likely he lives in the US as most musicians famous in the 80-90ties live there.

Also, musicians have a lot of girlfriend, I presume.
