DO POLES STILL TELL JOKES?

Absolutely not. It must be nine or ten years since I heard anyone tell a joke.

Genealogy / i dont know if an ancestor was polish or german [21]

they are from prussia & came to america in the 1800s when all the other germans came was it common for poles & germans toget married back then since prussia was in germany & poland? do you think shes german or polish

You need to spend some time at wikipedia to check the history of Poland. There was a time when the country wasn't on the map.

This is a time when Polish people appeared to be Prussian, Russian, Austrian.

You really need the name of the town your family came from to get things in order.

The name of the town might be mentioned at Ellis Island Records or on the Ship's Manifest.

Work / Soldier in need of advice about using Polish in a new career path. [11]

And what should I expect from the Polish government in terms of processing time and acceptance?

I don't know what questions appear on the application, but I would think that being in the military would add a few points to your good character.

UK, Ireland / POLES SUPERIOR TO BRITS? [260]

and very definitely have better food! I think even the most fervently patriotic Briton would have to give them that!

It's difficult to argue about food. But:

I'd like to hear more about Polish food, other than bigos and pierogi.

And more about a British menu that doesn't include chips.

Once you move away from easy to prepare meals and move on to a full menu... both the UK and Poland have winning recipes.

News / What is the penalty in Poland for exercising foreign citizenship? [12]

while departing Poland, present my US passport for exit.

maybe:

you might be asked about your visa etc. this would lead to complications i imagine.

explaining yourself might ensure that you miss your flight, at the very least.

This is assuming that you used a Polish passport to enter the country.

Language / Do Polish Movies Help learn the language? [60]

The topic is wandering.

There are already a few threads on the famous Polish 'lektor' as well as 'subtitles in Polish/English movies'.

Law / Poles don't like to use credit cards when buying online? [10]

I'd just like to say that many things can still be paid for... cash on delivery.

Dealing within Polish borders, I don't see a problem with this. Even things (not all) bought on-line can be cash on delivery.

Feedback / Keeping track of the threads [8]

is there a way i can keep track of some threads that i like?

Click on checker... to mark a favourite... click on the star... your choice will then be in your favourites selection.

'Your favouites' are only accessable after clicking on 'checker.'

It is worth spending some free time to become aquainted with the forum. It will make things easier and enhance your enjoyment.

News / Poles, get ready for mass migration from Russia ! [50]

Until I left Poland for one of small western European countries and saw that they are technologically back behind us for good decade already (I mean e-banking, internet, IT services etc). No kidding.

Because Poland had to start from the beginning, in the above technology, I would argue that the country didn't suffer the mistakes of others.

The telephone system is American technology, most people being brought up to date in the early 90's. Polish internet was, and is, ahead of the game... as has been pointed out already on the forum. Polish IT specialists are in demand.

I was always amused by the fact that I could watch the UK's channel 5 here in Poland when my folks in the UK couldn't get a signal. That was in the past. The restriction I have now is various Euro agreements.

Poland is not some little backwater in these areas. If others are looking for our specialists... Google etc are willing to invest in the country. Then I would say we are ahead of the game.

It is disrespectful to stand with your hands in your pockets in any walk of life. Didn't your mother teach you any manners.

My opinion. Each of your topics has its own thread. Why can't you leave it at that ?
