News / Has global warming affected Poland? And in what ways? [73]

"Poor" george bush. Everything is his fault. I think, he can't wait to get out of the globally warmed hot seat he is in :) - just like the rest of the world.

The miracle of the economic recovery is not going to happen until the blame game stops...

News / Has global warming affected Poland? And in what ways? [73]

according to Michal, the one factory in Krakow is totally to blame

Hehehehe. I never thought my old country had a such powerful one factory to cause global warming. ( I thought they were all closed or were sold to western industrialists, only to be shot down by them to eliminate competition).

Anyway, it looks like all we need is one to prosper and mess up the temperature of the entire globe. That's darn powerful for a small country. lol.

News / Has global warming affected Poland? And in what ways? [73]

There've always been either very 'hard" winters or very mild ones or, very hot summers or cold and rainy ones... Was it last winter or the winter before, when my family in Poland complained about a very cold winter and here in the US, we had it mild.

It seems to switch from year to year...

Food / Klopsy recipe? [17]

Oh, yes there are receipes...but it it better to follow your imagination, if you have any idea about spices, quantity and a general look & taste of the final product.

You can always modify and make your own recipe. Cooking is such an art. I enjoy creating meals in the kitchen.

UK, Ireland / Polish kids in UK education system [57]

Miserable trolls - here is a fragment from a URL posted earlier (with all my respect to British friends)

lol.

"The French scored 94. But it is not all good news. Top of the table were the Germans, with an IQ of 107. The British were also beaten by the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Italy, Austria and Switzerland"

Can anybody even imagine what they (trolls) would think about themselves, if the Brits topped the list? No wonder they are 'scared" of Polish 'invasion" of UK. They know, they can not match their smarts even with a toilet cleaner...

Life / Polish weekends - more work or family time? [16]

Never liked the desserts though - the cakes were always too dry!

Oh no, they are the best. I can't stand the gooey, sticky, sugary pastries. I take the polish ones over any other choices at any time.

Travel / Donkey visits Poland [76]

Osiol, you had a really interesting time in Poland. Besides, the way you narrate - it is just so great. You could write and publish some 'short stories', you know.

(bad boy Grzegorz). Not a typical behavior, but sh&t happens.

Love / How can I conquer a Polish woman? [84]

tell me how to win and conquer a Polish woman!

...with fire and sword?

Matt, just be nice to her and ask her out. You don't need any special gimmicks, if she likes you. But, if she is not interested, nothing will help, even tip-toeing around her on your eyelashes, if you can manage that.

(re: the regional status rivalry).

lol. They are all 'Śledzie" anyway, right? Just don't call your host that, Osiol when you visit them next time :) you too Puzz.

You may have to run for your life if you refer to anybody from Bialystok, £omża or any town from that region 'śledź' - I don't know the origins of it.

Maybe the same as my region was (is?) known as "kieleckie scyzoryki" hehehe

UK, Ireland / What's So Great About The UK? [416]

and I have had to start from scratch.

We all do in a foreign country. I came to the US with a small suitcase in my hand. That's all, and I made it.

I can see that you felt like ranting, but keep on going. You obviously need to go through with the exam, even if you have to borrow some money. What makes you think you can just show up without a paper showing your credentials and you going to get a highly paid job? Your experience in Poland certainly helps, but without the exam - it means nothing.

There are plenty of Poles here in Chicago, doctors, lawyer, accountants who had to start from scratch, if that's what they wanted to continue doing. If not, there is always the construction site, or worse.

I don't know how long you are in the UK, but it is not its class system that prevents you from getting a good job. It's the almighty piece of paper. It works everywhere and the rest is up to you.

Good luck.
