Life / Euro Trash - does it still exist and what is the Polish variety like? [15]

I've never drunk punch at Hogmanay, dunno what you mean.

I love haggis and bigos. Haggis is served on Jan 25, not at Xmas. We eat turkey with Brussels Sprouts and neeps then.

Żubrówka, what did my American friend say, "bison's pis*'. I quite like it but it's overrated.

Life / DECENCY RATINGS FOR THE INTERNET? Would it work in Poland? [17]

The rating system for films is far from flawless. Again, the point is WHO makes the decisions and what gives them the right to do so. Some films that have been passed as 18 are light for most 12-year old kids these days. Some 15's are quite graphic and contain disturbing themes. So, the key is parents checking out the films and making judgments for themselves.

Parental responsibility should be extended to this Internet rating system. Sorry, I don't see how the judgment of politicians should take presidence over those that directly raise the children.

The Poles probably believe in the maxim, 'If it ain't broke, don't change it'.

Some twattish politician trying to earn extra bucks for himself, sickening :(

USA, Canada / Why would someone leave Poland for the US? [120]

Why was he voted in then, Ignac?

Moderator comment: I think you might agree, everyone. This thread is wandering off topic.
Please keep within the subject.
Thank you.

History / Scotland and Poland. Mutual connections since 1576 [45]

You see, even in 1955 there were references ;)

here's another commonality, the love of the accordion. Akordeon in Polish I believe.

I'm sipping away at my 12-year old Ballantines and enjoying the sound. Too many flames on the boards of the forum of late, this is nice and light.

Food / the best cure for hangover-the polish way ;) [76]

2Kac can be bought here. I don't do hangovers as I don't drink enough.

Take a pint of water before bed. That is, if you can get it into your mouth ;)

News / ENGLISH STILL PROFITABLE IN POLAND? [78]

On the first point, so beautifully put mafketis. One of the truest of truisms on the forum. When I use English, they frown as they know I know Polish. My fiancee has upoważnienie to represent me at various places. I'm not fluent in Polish and I don't want to make any mistakes or misunderstand even slightly. They are quite pedantic here.

We all know that the courses aren't clasically geared towards real learning, now don't we? ;)

PD, classes aren't the model of flexibility. Today's hectic world has meant that more and more pops up ad-hoc thus shaking things up. Compromises can be hard to come by.

Language / Useful and the most common words in Polish [50]

Po prostu is always used. It means simply.

Related: 1000 (or more) MOST COMMON POLISH WORDS - (Frequency list)?

Does anyone know where I can find a frequency list of the most common polish words? I've looked and can't find any.
The best one so far was 200 words :(
Help would be greatly appreciated!

News / ENGLISH STILL PROFITABLE IN POLAND? [78]

It's still highly in demand as a service. More and more people are signing up for courses. Profitable? For some, yes. I don't like the ring of that word tho. I'm not in teaching to make (a) profit.

News / Poles, get ready for mass migration from Russia ! [50]

I concur, Wrocław.

I remember the poor reception of Channel 5 in the UK. Poland surpassed America in broadband technology a few years back. I'm not sure if the US has redressed the balance.

As I said yesterday, Poland is no7 in the world as an attractive investment proposition.

Russians, if the ruble picks up, should invest in such a key area of the future.

News / Why is Tusk still Polish PM? [67]

And Crow is Serbian, HatefulBunch, he lives this.

Not some distorted pro-NATO papers that you read. You know, I've had to read so much virtuous nonsense. Rarely do you see the full picture.

Why is Tusk still PM? Well, maybe he has taken to vetoing and has precluded the possibility of anyone else getting into office ;) ;)
