UK, Ireland / Tide turns as Poles end great migration [26]

"Polish builder Aric Jenac, 33, building at a home in London (Susannah Ireland / The Times)"

Aric Jenac? A polish builder? It's not a polish name... Is it?
I think Susannah Ireland needs to verify the information she gathers. :)

Anyway, I think it's good people are coming back. Many are not so deeply rooted in UK being there 2-5 years only. Let's hope Poland provides places to work at comparable wages.

Food / First time eating Polish food [30]

I am located in the US and are looking to eat a polish dish for the first time.

Jeez, you mean there are places in the US, where polish food is still not readily available? :)
Enjoy the experience! Make sure you try some mushroom soup too.

USA, Canada / Sending flowers to Poland from Canada [14]

A couple of years ago I sent a funeral arrangement of flowers to Poland. I did it via Polish Travel Agency "Polamer" (most of us are familiar with the company and they might have their bureaus in Canada as well). They have contracts with Polish flowers shops who do that, and and they sent the most beautiful flowers.

So plk no wilted flowers...

I routinely order flowers for my sis in NY (BDay & X-mas). They are not sent from Chicago, but a flower shop in NY around the corner.

It works the same when sending flowers to Poland.

Food / Polish National Dish [54]

More traditional (around Christmas) than national...I'd say.

BTW, Carp = crap (sorry)

Life / Animosity between Poland vrs. Polonia? [98]

I find it ridiculous when people who live here (USA) for years say that they are going to vote. This kind of votes only mess up intentions of people who actually live in Poland. I never voted and have no intention to.Simply, because, I have no idea what's going on in Poland on everyday bases.

Reading a weekend edition of a polish newspaper or listening to "polonia" radio does not give me the real feeling of being "there".

Sure, I can buy newspapers and magazines imported from Poland, but it only adds to the confusion.
So, "Polonia" - keep out.

History / "The Struggles for Poland" - the documentary series, where to find? [3]

I remember seeing it myself at that time. I tried to Google it, but even Amazon and eBay did not have it...somewhat surprising. I agree, the series were very well done.

It's possible that Polish video rental stores might have it (taped from TV). :)
You might give it a try, if live close enough to Chicago or New York.
This website has a lot of polish history and refers to "The Struggles for Poland".

Life / Redheads in Poland - How many? [95]

Then the beautiful, pure, polish, red squirrels should not fool around with all the grey ones who want to marry them and have baby squirrels :)

Life / Redheads in Poland - How many? [95]

Yes, wiewióra, wiewiórka would be a squirrel. Nothing changed then.

Wiewiorka name would not work here well, the city/suburban squirrels are grey - not lovely red like in Poland.

Had anybody eaten rydze? Sauteed, pickled... They are the tastiest!

Life / Redheads in Poland - How many? [95]

Did the other kids called him/her "rudy rydz" or "wiewióra"? :)

(Lactarius deliciosus, known as the Saffron milk cap, Red pine mushroom)

Life / Redheads in Poland - How many? [95]

pure polish people w/naturally red hair- my answer is none I can think of

I did have a couple of classmates in Poland with natural red hair. Not a popular color to have when you're a kid. It changes later, and many women, young and old, color their hair red or add a hint of it (including me). :)

Love / Advice wanted: meeting Polish girl for the first time [19]

Is it a blind date? If it is, she would certainly not want to be hugged and kissed.
A hand shake will do.
You can hug and kiss when you part, that is, if you actually liked each other.

News / Will Poland become green? [122]

Is it so hard to believe that the Earth getting warmer might have something to do with the sun?

Not at all. It always good to hear both sides of the story.
Al Gore's story is made to scare people into crawling back under the rock instead of educating them. Funny, that he opposes building nuclear plants even tough it is the cleanest way to produce energy.

UK, Ireland / Anti-Polish sentiment of England [253]

Quoting UKguy :
Polish people are generally quite hostile and so are many British people. Thats why the Poles like it in England, becuase they are cold hearted. In contrast us Romanians are more open hearted and friendly. Polish people are like Russians, they have similar attitudes and mentality. Mabey the British should come to Romania: its the not been invaded by Poles (yet). Romanains don't like the Polish (begging the British people for jobs and money) and I hope that they don't come to Romania. [/quote]

What? Aren't Romanians doing petty jobs in Poland already and wishing to do it in UK? ...as soon as they allow you...hehehehe
Trolls will have a field day with you then :)

Genealogy / how many know their own family histories? [139]

It has to be very interesting to research your family history. We all want to know and feel the connection "where do I come from". It is amazing, how many people try to find their roots...I wish, I knew more about my grandparents, even tough I was born and basically brought up in Poland. I know so little about my grandparents. I only remember a little my grandma (my mother's mother, I was in my teens when she died). All others were gone when I was born. My parents died early too (teens again)...I just have some stories from my older sister...that's it, even about my parents...

Food / Maślanka and Kefir, Serek śmietankowy and Śmetana - the difference? [18]

Isn't servatka the water from a squeezed cheese, when you make it at home?
It looks greenish, tastes sour... I tasted it in the past, but I did not like it. Darn, it's got to have tons of good bacteria and Vitamin C.

Who needs a colon cleanser after that! Free and clear.

USA, Canada / Trouble sending emails from U.S. to Poland... [6]

Did you look in the spam folder?
The only times I did not receive email in my inbox were emails from people writing to me for the first time, but they were in the spam folder...
