News / SHOULD POLAND/EUROPE BE WORRIED ABOUT RUSSIA?? [90]

You have the right to install the defence system, I agree. However, it is just posturing and in the name of being prophylyactic. There will be no attack on Poland. Russian inspectors were offered to come and have a look for themselves. It's all a game.

History / Question about Post WW2 Polish Jews etc [42]

Greg is right, excellent commentary. They are not part of the Jewish brethren according to the sages and real Jewry. The Torah and Talmud teachings oust/expel them.

Don't confuse normal Jews with Zionists. It is mainly the Zionists that have accrued 'dirty' money.

jewsagainstzionism is a real eye opener. I have just finished reading the central tenets of the Talmud and I learned some interesting things.

Life / Saying Grace before eating in Poland's homes [10]

Saying Grace, is this some kind of summons? Grace Jones, hehehe, saying Grace would be the last thing I'd do.

On a more serious note, I don't think it's widely observed here. In America, it assumes more importance.

Life / Living In Poland For The Expat [67]

I guess it works both ways but I was thinking ridiculously high. I had a couple of shops in mind. I was chatting with a Polish guy who came back from Leeds. He described the prices in the deli as a "skandal". They are pretty scandalous.

However, overall, you can get some real bargains at fruit/veg stalls and also in shops like Biedronka and Plus.

Life / Home In 20 Days - My thoughts on Poland... [36]

Which reminds me, I need to step back into the gym. I lost weight too but it has sneaked back on after a demonic pizza. Friggin things was huge.

Cardno, what do you make of the pizza situation here? In Scotland and Japan, there is far greater variation in price between the sizes. The difference here is negligible. That's why I invariably plump for the big ****-off pizza. The Poles know that pizzas cost little to make, they make profits anyway. Us Scots just play on the fact that it's big, thus hike up the prices.

Life / Living In Poland For The Expat [67]

Prices were much cheaper 5 years ago. Some of the prices here are ridiculous when compared to the average salary.

Life / Living In Poland For The Expat [67]

Sound advice, Misty. Or start stretching at the counter and smack them, pretending you didn't see them. It's a global phenomenon, I guess. Not only here.

I think I'll take the Misty approach next time.

Life / Living In Poland For The Expat [67]

Osioł, you had a great point about Tesco. I was angry today because they had 2 cashiers closed which were for up to 10 items. The point is, they only have 2. That was the whole point of me going to Tesco today, to pick up 9 or 10 things, my fiancee doing likewise, and getting out of there. I hate the queing there. I was very close to saying, 'jeszcze bliżej, co?'. I moved away from the til area for a while, leaving my fiancee there. She was apparently harassed when I was away by this old hag.

Those fuckers are over the hill, what have they got to hurry for? What's so important that they can ignore civility?

Life / Just cross the damn road...Is Poland strict about road crossing rules? [13]

I've noticed that too. It's a bit like the Smith and Jones sketch where the guy looks left and right about a hundred times before deciding to drive forward past the junction, only to have a car drop from the sky and crush his car :)

I crossed today and got the weirdest of looks.

Food / Nudle. Who likes Noodles in Poland? :) [33]

Ramen is amazing. Amongst the best things I've tasted. The standard noodles with curry are really good. They go down a treat.

The Japanese noodles, soba and udon, are both highly edible. Soba are buckwheat noodles and udon are the softer ones. I lived in a place called Izumo first and they had the best soba in Japan.

The Asians are streets ahead when it comes to noodles. Ah yes, there's a type above. It should be Vi-Fon and not Vu-fon. My mistake.

Work / gday everyone - i'd love to come to Poland to teach English, but... [15]

Yeah, these are the going rates. I'm lucky enough to get 30 hours a week at an average of 60/hour before tax. I actually have 3 separate rates at one of my schools. Still, it's nose to the grindstone most of the time. The good thing is, I don't work weekends anymore.

7K is quite healthy for a teacher here. Some of the earnings of business people here is sick. My fiancee deals with those who book holidays which cost more than my bank balance. Fiendishly wealthy.

Cheese with herbs is my favourite too. My fiancee never lets me eat all of the sauce as she claims that it gives you the runs. Not sure how valid that is or if she is talking through experience, hehehe.

I've tried most of the others too, the ones made by Knorr that is. They are better than the Amino or other ones that I've tried. Vu-Fon are not bad.

Still, I've been fortunate enough to try la creme de la creme. Nissin in Japan are better. They had a cheese and curry flavour which was sensational. The spicy ones in Japan are devilishly good too. They even trump Pot Noodle and I was a big fan of those in Britain.

Love / I'm pregnant of a polish guy [90]

Men are all the same, LOL. Polish guys, loyal? Why would you think that? They are generally more so but you'd be naive to think that it was a golden rule.

Białystok is quite famous. Yeah, Wrocław is a reliable source in such matters. Go with his recommendation.

History / Poland Betrayed in WW2 [243]

OK, so they may not have the inventive capabilities of the Scots, nor the standard of living that most of us there enjoy, but that doesn't make them any less.

Not everyone can be Scottish :)

Yeah, I can see negative points in Poles as I can in any nation, but the best people here are extraordinary. I have the utmost respect for some here.
