Language / mizeria - cucumber salad? [23]

not really. it should be vinegarless.

here:

cuces - sliced as thin as possible. peeled is best but can be either way
add a bit of sour cream and stir
pepper the heck out of it.
optional - add dill

USA, Canada / Work ethics in Poland vs US [66]

Everyone who have opportunity to work there pointed at least 12 hour shifts.

nah, i've maybe worked a handful of shifts of that length in my work life.

Imperial-Official system of measurement for all nations except the U.S., Liberia & Myanmar.

imperial system is not used in the usa, btw. :D

USA, Canada / Work ethics in Poland vs US [66]

When I was in Poland I was working 80 hour weeks (minimum) with no breaks and no food, there were plenty of Polish people doing the same as me,

chain gang time doesn't count. sorry.

Many (not all i know) come to the usa with no education/skills

a degree or skills don't guarantee a job here either. it helps but that's it.

USA, Canada / Please help me find new places to buy Polish food in the Chicago area [37]

i shop wallys on milwaukee most often. they have pretty much everything.
i almost always buy all my bread or sweets at Pasieka Bakery, just down the street from wallys. i like their products better then andy's.

there are other places on milwaukee ave.. all around 3500 block or so..

once in a while i'll venture out to gene's sausage shop.... .... map to 5330+W+Belmont+Ave,+Chicago,+IL+60641,+USA <-- go to street view and look around.. it's the one with the cow up above the door. i think i may like their hot foods the best of the other delis i've been to.

they also have a bunch of booze but i tend to buy all of it at Avondale Liquors down the street from Pasieka. cheaper and they have a good selection too.

pierogi.. only at alexandra's. their address is in one of the threads. i always end up wandering around until i stumble into it. lol

so, you can get it all on milwaukee and close by.

News / Polish priest publishes sex guide [97]

discourages the use of any form of contraception, saying it can "lead a married couple outside of Catholic culture and into a completely different lifestyle".

and people listen to that drivel. oh well.

Genealogy / Indian? Gypsy? Turk? [41]

American Indians or native indians do not exist anymore

that is incorrect. there are still plenty pure blooded natives in america.

the word aryan comes from persian. the indians with a dot are definitely not the same as germans.

USA, Canada / Friendly Polish in Chicago [17]

and then there's that Jackowo, or whatever.. but i don't even know where it's located.

if you're on the north side, then Belmont/Milwaukee/Irving park is definitely a good place to look. over by Harlem and Cumberland there's also many polish people there.

that is jackowo.

why so...

that's just the way poles are.

Travel / Walks up the Beskids mountains [44]

The various species of black bears are more timid.

but they tend to stalk and they don't give up easily.. completely opposite of the brown bear behavior.

BREAKING NEWS
Of the 24 confirmed fatalities from Brown and Black bear attacks in North America since the year 2000, 15 of them were by Black Bears. Admittedely there are a lot more of the little devils but still a bear is a bear and under the wrong circumstances they are freakin dangerous.

yeap.. this is partially due to black bear population lives way closer to humans..
