If the medical system was to be privatised how would the unemployed or old age pensioners be able to afford hospital cover.

Medical and old age care will be the biggest issue facing all governments in the next 5years.

Medical care should be the responsibility of the government and not be priviatised, nor for that matter public transport/gas and electricity.

Private insurance is out of reach for a lot of people here... having a good public funded system paid by taxes is the only way to go.

Rafik....If you are buying a property to live in ,sure this will be good, but a property for investment and borrowing big money, I doubt it.

I have visited poland 10 times in the last 20 years and sure thinks have improved it still lacks a lot....there is still unfortunately a lot of poverty in poland and sure some people have it very well and are able to eat out, the majority of poles struggle from week to week.

Poland from my understanding has not got award wages and workplace agreements and are at the mercy of the employer to be paid (if they are paid)

I must make a point that this is a discussion forum and people should have proper manners, I cannot understand the likes of Wujek who loves putting the boots in, and is self opinioniated.

I'm not comparing the cities but the prices per square meeter. it so happens, that I've spend last week in Poland and checked the matter, since I'm myself interested in investing in an appart in Brussels. and I can tell you, the prices are simillar.

I here what you are saying, I probally agree that real estate in Warsaw/Krakow is worth looking into.. but keep in mind if you were forced to sell you may not recover what you have invested....in every country there are sought after locations which will always retain value. I don't believe homes in the country are worth investing in unless it is your full time residence.

A lot of poles have been brainwashed in thinking their homes are now worth a fortune, some are and most are not..

rafik..lets call a spade a spade, sure prices in capital ciities will always be strong, keep in mind that the polish real estate market has just taken off and if heading in an unknown direction, it may continue to grow or it may stabilse..

Remember it will do poland no good having foreign people own a lot of real estate and if polish home prices are high it will put the average pole out of reach of buying a house etc.

The price of homes should also relect what polish workers earn ie how could somebody afford a house worth say 400000zl and earns 2000zl a month, this is an impossibility.

Further factors to consider are

Political stability in poland
Corruption in poland
Climate ie having 8 months of cold/wet weather is not an attractive proposition(although weather in London is not much better)
and law enforcement (still very poor)
Huge cost associtated with heating.

I agree with hi23 it would be true that 50% of poles in america at SOME POINT would be illegals (give or take).........in actual fact this suits the US economy ie people doing the worse type of jobs. You're right. I know a few sad stories of some Poles who came back to Poland in the hopes of having a good and stress-free life. Most of them, unfortunately, died within a year or so after having come back. So it seems working until old is not that bad idea after all...
