Most banks require residency, tax ID etc. This one only needs a passport. I don't think you can open an account without going into a branch but could be wrong.

I just have the basic account and it seems fine.

My view is someone that needs to be impressed isn't worth your time. Be yourself...be kind and respectful and if she likes you it will be obvious. If kind and respectful isn't working it is not the kind of person worth being with.

Ah great then you have a huge advantage as that is rare.

I am sure you are aware but family gatherings could be odd as not everyone in the family is sure to be so open. I had an American hating 'aunt' in my ex's family and man oh man she made life hell when she showed up.

Even if they are more relaxed about it the culture is not so just know it won't be easy. I've seen an occasional gay couple holding hands etc here and they get stared at and snickered about.

Do you know how her family feels about this? The odds are they are not cool with it and this means you have zero chance of being involved with them as you would like. It is hard enough here to be accepted into a family as an outsider but gay? Not likely.

This is a very conservative society with overt and hidden Catholic influence. There are gay people here but the life for them is NOT as easy as in the West and it isn't cake for them there.

I'd also say knowing the crowd here you are going to get some abuse from a few folks. Maybe there is a forum or resource for gays in Poland that could be more helpful and without the judgment?

Most Polish women love flowers...I can't imagine that sexuality would change that but it is simply a guess.

Clearly not. I was saying computers for example are primarily asian which means importation for both the USA and Poland. Yet in Poland the same device is 2 times or more higher in cost. I know people pay this and I don't understand either HOW they pay so much for goods,housing etc when the salaries are lower. It doesn't work out on paper.

Well my opinion is certain to draw the ire of Poles as they can't believe such things happen and that such unethical nonsense is possible here....but I am a believer, and have been told this by financial people here in Poland, that Poland was slowly inflating the Zl and raising prices here to try and get things closer to the Euro on a per unit value so that when the switchover occurred it would be less painful than is has been for others. A lot can be done my manipulating reported numbers etc regardless of what people will admit.

They also mentioned that when things started going nuts worldwide it wasn't so easy to cover what they were doing and they got caught overvaluing the Zl and thus 'part' of the drop....the rest is the unsure nature of the markets as the other EU currencies are dropping too just not equally.

I know a few Polish bankers that are not happy. Their plan is sinking (though they already made a killing on insider info).

Maybe I should start looking for a cheaper flat if there is actually so much trouble with keeping housing full as people say. But I know of several flats sitting empty for a lonnnngg time because the owner had them priced too high and wouldn't budge...I do not understand the business mentality here. They would rather not make anything than make 'less' profit but still overall make profit.

But then knowing my luck the bottom will fall out and the owner would triple the price on me!

Yeah the hard part is seeing where it will top out or if it will go down again and when to withdraw money, buy things etc.

I thought when it got to 2.6 and hovered there for a while it was over. Now I think it might break 3 by Christmas.

Since prices in PL have gone up considerably it would need to get to about 4 again before it would match what it was when I came...I don't see it going that high but I could be surprised as I couldn't have imagined it getting down to 2 either and it did.

UK...yes I have lived here several years...I am sorting it just as everyone else is...difficultly...as the rules keep changing and even the officials tell you the wrong things. I can only know the process as they tell me and it is never the same from time to time. Once again you blame me for Poland's inconsistencies. It doesn't fly nor is it a meter of my character.

I will clarify for your simplistic view:

I think Islam is a mess...as I do all religion...but at this time in history Islam is causing more trouble than any other.

I am not 'pro-israel' I am pro freedom and think Israel does some nasty stuff too.

I do not think Poles are racist...I KNOW it. All races are racist and some more than others. Poland is a homogenous culture (look it up it doesn't mean gay before you get excited) and mostly white. I have seen much racism here and it is a fact not me hating on Poland. I have also seen racism in every place I have been...but again Poland more than many.

If you look Asian that's the big issue. Poles don't want to admit it but they are a fairly racist bunch...especially the older ones.

And yeah the not being Catholic thing just compunds your problems.

Just be yourself...as long as your bf loves you that's the important thing. You cannot change people you can only hope they will be mature enough to see you are a good person and not some 'gasp' asian foreigner.
