History / Władysław Sikorski remains to be exhumed for cause of death [43]

Simple, Russians were aware of Serbian-Polish joint actions on Balkan which needed to result in Polish independance and strenghtening of Serbian resistance to Russian domination.

How is that possible? A large area of Poland was under Russian rule. Why on earth would they want Poland to regain their independence? Russia was acting on their Balkan interests, nothing else. I recognize that they were sympathetic to the Serbian pan-Slavic cause. But even that can be attributed towards the pro-Russian rulers of Serbia at the time. Russia wanted to neutralize the Ottoman threat in the area. As well, they were looking for any pretext to redeem themselves after standing down to Austria-Hungary's threats a few years earlier...

Russians paid it with millions of lives.

This does not make it o.k. The Russians were acting in their own interests. I feel sympathy for the men who were forced to be cannon fodder, but not towards Nicholas or any of that aristocratic scum.

Russians failed sometimes but, there is no hate in them

This is understood.

eventualy some foreigners ever invade Poland, Russians would be among first to help over pure slavophilia.

I am very curious to see if they would, or if it would simply be a repeat of WWII.

Give chance to each others Poles and Russians, dark ages and difficult times are in front of us.

I work, I drink, I eat, I wait...

will show trauma and broken bones pointing to a violent death (e.g., plane crash

But its also possible that it may show other evidence that he was either shot, or perhaps bludgeoned to death before the crash. You know, at least 4 of the passengers were never found, including one girl member of Sikorski's family who was supposedly recognized at a Russian gulag by a Polish commando, but then disappeared.

History / The Reformation in the Baltic - Denmark, Poland, Sweden [13]

our troops have been to moscov

Twice : ) The only nation to ever do so.

It was exactly inversely downfall of religous freedom was the result of what you are talking about.

Please clarify this...

Prince, you should read this book:

Northern Wars, by Robert Frost. A very good history of state and society in North-Eastern Europe in the 16th-18th centuries.

which prompted the Polish-Lithuanian nobility to see that no monarch would ever be able to carry out such an act in Poland.

How ironic that this actually led to Polands downfall in the mid 18th century, Lukasz. The Commonwealth, the last great Renaissance state of a citizen army, by making sure there would be no centralized power in a monarch, also ruined any chances of going through a necessary military revolution. We needed a standing army to compete with our neighbours, but without a monarch to secure this, we were doomed.

News / Walesa excluded from Polish national gala [38]

What is Walesa`s position on Kosovo recognition by official Poland?

Here is an older article on Kosovo:

findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4182/is_19990415/ai_n10127616

On recognition:

Warnings that the recognition of Kosovo will serve to the detriment of Georgia were heard in Poland as early as February this year.

Bearing in mind the risks for Poland's allies in the Caucasus, Georgia above all, Warsaw's recognition of the Kosovo Albanians' secession was described as an irresponsible move by the legendary anti-communist leader and former Polish president, Lech Walesa.

"Recognizing Kosovo will bring nothing but trouble. No one can be denied the right to self-determination, but only within the bounds of common sense," he was quoted as saying at the time.

Walesa stressed in his statements to the Polish media that Kosovo was "with its irresponsible behavior, causing new divisions in Europe and globally and undermining international relations".

For quite a while now, I have been reading up on Walesa, and listening to his latest comments. The more I listen, and watch, the more I realize that this guy is very, very simple minded. Almost like a child, to tell you the truth.

He might well have been honest, and is honest to this day, but the communists saw his rather simple mindedness as a tool of transition. They saw that they could continue to manipulate this fool, during Solidarnosc movement, and after he became president (which many 'former' communists supported during elections)

This also explains why men like Andrzej Gwiazda also of the Solidarnosc party, more well-spoken and intelligent man, who communists could have been afraid of, was never supported to run for election.

Poland's own mistake is that their transition to democracy was far too slow, with 'controlled revolution.' Communists had good time to settle into new positions in government, instead of being ousted quickly like in the Czech Republic, with more dramatic revolution.

News / Walesa excluded from Polish national gala [38]

People just like to point fingers and criticise

Seanus, there is plenty of evidence on him already. If he had sense enough, he would confess and be done with it:

What about the pensions he refused to take away for ex-communists, SB and ubeki? Its disgusting that these people were getting larger pensions than most, honest hardworking Poles up to a few years ago

What about the bodyguards he hired after he became president? Most of them were former communist agents, some of whom he probably met while being jailed by them

Code name Bolek? What is all that about?

It is obvious today, that Walesa sold his soul to get power.

News / Lithuania, Poland Leaders Warn EU Against Russia Talks [33]

Who is to judge that?

But, you obviously have a hard time understanding the Polish psyche...

Anyway the real issue is Kaczynski and Tusk, at it again. They counter each other any way they possibly can. This is just another attempt by Kaczynski to go against Tusk, regardless if you call the warnings right or wrong.

Russians. You must work hard to understand these obstacles, and see them not as malicious Polish behaviour, but sometimes just the 'overextension' or unrealistic ambitions of Polish govermnent. You must see the Polish stance beside Lithuania (by the President, not the Prime Minister) as merely political games. Lithuania has been historic ally with Poland, and Kaczynski is playing up to the Poles who see this as the right thing to do.

News / Lithuania, Poland Leaders Warn EU Against Russia Talks [33]

Dialogue is acceptable between Poland and Russia... and it will happen sooner or later, with or without Russian withdrawal from Georgia.
I have already stated that these two countries need to become closer, economically, but at the same time, they need to be mutually respectful.

A rather brave effort to stand up to Russia with our historic ally, but pointless altogether, as Tusk is calling the shots, and he is obviously with Sarkozy and the rest of the EU ass-kissers.

No. I am just curious. First he was advocating that Turks were white, but now he dislikes any idea of having Greek blood in him.

Greeks are certainly whiter than Turks...

wanted to remove the Polish forces away from British command and place them under American command.

More importantly, the existence of such an elite force of Poles overseas, who had ambitions of landing in Poland later doing the Polish liberation under Sikorski's command, would have put a serious strain in the Anglo-Russian relationship. Stalin despised such a free Polish force, and wanted to crush any Polish organization to complete his plans for Poland. By this time, the Brits didn't want anything to do with Stalin and tried their best not to provoke him, even if it meant selling Poland's soul. Can't say I can blame them, because by this time they wanted peace for themselves, at all costs.

JulietEcho

Very well said.
As well, non-Polish media has conveniently left out the comments made by Mr. Walesa in regards to Kaczynski. Very rude, to say the least. Perhaps if he would have admitted to the charges, he would still have an inch of dignity left... His 'legacy' of Solidarnosc should be forgotten... I would even consider rewriting history books and giving the credit to other, maybe less influential, but honest leaders of the movement.
