Many Poles helped Jews; many could not for fear for their (own) lives. It would be interesting how many here would behave under war conditions that existed in Poland.

As to Jews accepting Soviet support, I'm afraid that this was a condition even prior to the war. What was that percentage of communist Jews again? (I understand it's a touchy subject but deal with it).

I would also add that there were some Jews who considered themselves Polish as well.

Heh,heh,heh, there's a lot of that going around here in the states. I can't tell you how often 'the Polish help' on the female side is shown interest. Heard it dozens of times, no exaggeration.

Funny, I grew up on the south side of Chicago but have lived near north the past three decades or so and have rarely heard "the mean things..." you claim. (I'm half Polish and half Russian but have a Polish heart).

In fact, many Poles are respected here because of their economic success and dare I say their overall courtesies that they exhibit (ok, Milwaukee Ave. has some drunks but who hasn't? ...besides, many of them aren't even Polish).

Poles, Italians, Irish, etc. all exhibit good natured ribbing with each other. That may not have been true 50-60 years ago but in general it is true now as so many intermarry and have inlaws of other ethnicities. Also, people with different backgrounds work with each other and that allows for mutual understanding, besides most consider themselves Americans first.

Well gentlemen (and ladies?) I appreciate the follow-up and indeed will attempt to verify all these "pogroms" and other actions attributed to Poles in the 1930's. This post WWI activity surprises me as my reading of Norman Davies books about Poland shows a Polish history of welcoming Jews (in general). That's why there were so many Jews in Poland in the first place.

Now, I am still interested in specific Jewish crimes against Poles following the Soviet invasion in September of '39. Anyone?

Perhaps this has been answered before in other forums here but can someone give me information on Jewish involvement with the Soviet army during WWII? Of particular interest is the invasion of Poland on Sept 17 and after. Were Jews pointing out Poles for death, etc?
