Was it my ancestors or yours who gave returning Polish Jews warm welcomes

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edict_of_Expulsion

In 1290, King Edward I issued an edict expelling all Jews from England. Lasting for the rest of the Middle Ages, it would be over 350 years until it was formally overturned in 1656. The edict was not an isolated incident but the culmination of over 200 years of conflict on the matters of usury.

story told of a captain taking a ship full of Jews to the Thames while the tide was going out and convincing them to go out for a walk with him. He then lost them and made it back to his ship before the tide came back in, leaving them all to drown. Other stories exist of Jews being robbed or killed

where they emigrated (Poland) ?

Czech rep. isn't Poland that is why they had much different possible political choices. Htiler had much different plans according to Poland.

News / Will Poland become green? [122]

David de Rothschild at Zeitgeist Europe 2007

watch the begining of this move (British plans!!!). They want to make new taxes on poor countries. Britih as always want to make easy money on poor countries Fuk them !!!! Green technologies are good but I dont see the reason to pay money for dumb Brits. 1000 years ago whole Poland was full of vineyards later it was colder and now we are going to have what we had 1000 years ago. In this case British want our money!!!!

I support green tech but I laught when I see somebody talking about climate changes.

History / Slavic mythology [44]

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire

The English term was derived (possibly via French vampyre) from the German Vampir, in turn thought to be derived in the early 18th century from the [b]Serbian вампир/vampir.

EU to launch 'Eastern Partnership' at May summit: source

(BRUSSELS) - European leaders will launch their "Eastern Partnership" to boost ties with six ex-Soviet republics at a Prague summit in May, a Czech EU presidency source said Thursday.

A Czech diplomat said the EU leaders participating in Prague may hold another summit the same day or the following day with countries involved in the "southern corridor" -- a planned energy supply route from the Caspian region, through Turkey and into Europe.

The southern corridor, notably the Nabucco gas pipeline from the Caspian to Austria via Turkey, has become a priority issue following a recent gas payments row between Russia and major transit country Ukraine earlier this month.

News / Poland has the highest shopping IQ [46]

timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article697134.ece

"Professor Lynn, who caused controversy last year by claiming that men were more intelligent than women by about five IQ points on average, said that populations in the colder, more challenging environments of Northern Europe had developed larger brains than those in warmer climates further south. The average brain size in Northern and Central Europe is 1,320cc and in southeast Europe it is 1,312cc. "The early human beings in northerly areas had to survive during cold winters when there were no plant foods and they were forced to hunt big game,""

Maybe it was last 200 years of extraordynary natural seclection.

hehehe not only winters but also partitions, persecutions, Stalin, Hitler etc ... something like Jews (Ashkenazi Jews IQ is about 110 - 120) but we had only 200 years of additional natural selection, the weakest died from hunger, were killed etc... :)

Long live Poland !

We will see if it this stats are true or not... future will tell us.

History / Katyn- forgiven and forgotten? [111]

"Former foreign secretary Adam Rotfeld, a member of a bilateral history commission, urges Moscow to be more open about the perpetrators of the 1940 murder of 20,000 Polish officers, know as the Katyn massacre."

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Daniel_Rotfeld

"Rotfeld was born in Przemyślany near Lwów, Poland (now Lviv, Ukraine). He is of Jewish origin, but was baptised Christian in his childhood. Rotfeld is married to Barbara Sikorska-Rotfeld and has one daughter, Alicja, born in 1971."

History / Polish - Vikings relations [26]

It is better to post it here: interesting:

Vikings in Wielkopolska

Archaeologists have unearthed near Ostrow Wielkopolski two graves Vikings. The finding comes from the late tenth and eleventh centuries . This is the first such discovery in the region of Wielkopolska .

" The graves of Viking Ostrow Lednicki

Archaeologists studying the burial of the second half . XI . Ostrow Lednicki in Greater dug two graves in the rite Viking . "

Rebellion- Canute the Great (The King of Danish Pride)

English should be called Anglo-Saxon-Slavs

culture.polishsite.us/articles/art262fr.htm

There are some theories suggesting that the first Polish ruling dynasty, Piast is related to Vikings. These theories are not that strong as the hypothesis that Vikings were instrumental in creating the first Russian statehood so that the name rus is of Viking origin. In the present time, the hypothesis whether the first Piast ruler had Viking blood in his vein cannot be proved or disproved but nobody argues the fact, that the relationships between the first Piasts and Vikings were close and very friendly. (...)

After 994 she married Sweyn I of Denmark under the name Gunhilda. From the second marriage she probably had five children, including Canute the Great and Harold II of Denmark. Since her marriage was not happy, she returned to Poland where her brother Boleslaw the Brave was ruling. After Sweyn died her sons, Kanut and Karald took her back from Poland. Kanut, known as Kanut the Great became later king of England, Denmark and Norway and governor of Schleswig and Pomerania. She died somewhere in Englisg castle. In any event, Boleslaus I of Poland, the first king of Poland actually sent his troops to help Canute in his successful conquest of England, another sign of close relationships between Polish rulers and Vikings.

History / Ancient Polish History thread [180]

I'll add my favourite 2 battles.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Kircholm

kircholm

September 27, 1605, the Polish-Lithuanian and Swedish forces met near the small town of Kircholm (now Salaspils in Latvia, some 18 km. South East of Riga). The forces of Charles IX of Sweden were numerically superior and were composed of 11,000 infantry (8500 pikeman, 2500 musketeer), 2,500 cavalry and 11 cannons. The Swedish army included a few thousand German and Dutch mercenaries and even a few hundred Scots.

Jan Karol Chodkiewicz was composed of roughly 1,300 infantry (1040 pikeman and 260 musketeer), 2,600 cavalry and only 5 cannons.

The fighting lasted barely 20 to 30 minutes, yet the Swedish defeat was utter and complete. The army of Charles IX had lost at least half, perhaps as much as two-thirds, its original strength. The Polish-Lithuanian losses numbered only about 100 dead and 200 wounded

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Klushino

Polish forces numbering about 6,800 men (of which about 80 percent (5556[2]) were the famous 'winged' hussars) under Hetman Stanisław Żółkiewski defeated a numerically superior force of about 35,000 - 40,000 Russians under Dmitry Shuisky, Andrew Golicyn and Danilo Mezecki, including about 5,000 - 10,000 mercenary units temporarily allied to Russia, under the command of Jacob De la Gardie, mostly Finnish and Swedish, with some regiments composed of French, German and British. Including the forces that did not take part in combat (remained in camp, reserve or was delayed), the numbers were 12,300 Poles against 48,000 Russians. Poles were supported by 2 cannons, and Russians by 11.

Casualties and losses
Poles 400 Russians and Swedes 5,000

History / The Reformation in the Baltic - Denmark, Poland, Sweden [13]

Calvins were extreme is some views ... however they always wanted to prove that they were chosen by God ...

/wiki/Calvinism

The doctrine of unconditional election asserts that God's choice from eternity of those whom he will bring to himself is not based on foreseen virtue, merit, or faith in those people. Rather, it is unconditionally grounded in God's mercy alone.

You know something like: "I HAVE GOD'S MERCY!!!" I was good motivator.

Read Dmowski to find out about what I am talking about :)

History / The Reformation in the Baltic - Denmark, Poland, Sweden [13]

Do you really believe what you write? Neither Americans care about democracy in Iraq or Polish army had good intentions when invaded Russia. They got what deserved.

We can make this debate in other place. Lets stick to religion.

These sects were kicked out from other countries mostly because they were in opposition to rule of local monarch. Thus this is rather destabilizing factor.

/wiki/Thirty_Years'_War

The major impact of the Thirty Years' War, fought mostly by mercenary armies, was the extensive destruction of entire regions, denuded by the foraging armies. Episodes of famine and disease significantly decreased the populace of the German states and the Low Countries and Italy, while bankrupting most of the combatant powers.

We avoided this wars. What is more ... most of this "heretics" were right. In modern churches you can't buy place in haven or saints leg isn't artefact. :)

Most people don't think if protestants or catholics are right. We gained big part of european elites (people who were thinking about aim, God, religion - small miniority in every nation). We avoided war Germans had in their country... Our native Polish Calvins have done a lot of good job
