UK, Ireland / Tide turns as Poles end great migration [26]

thats if they have made enough money to have anything to send/take back! Most of the ones I know are just working to survive in the UK and all their wages go on rent, food and travel so they have little left over. Of course some are luckier and will save money and I presume will eventually go home and invest it in property. I think the main motivation for returning will be less availability of work here and too much competition forcing the wages down. I am specifically referring to manual trades here. Imo it will be a good thing for both Poland and the UK if some people return.

Love / Getting married?? Keeping parents happy etc... Big Polish family. [9]

I'm not a Catholic but have started going to church with my partner cos it makes him happy. I know he wants me to convert, but I dont think you can choose a religion just for the sake of marriage or because someone else wants you to, even if you do love that person. I have told him that if I do become a Catholic, the desire has to come from within me.. otherwise what is the point as you would just be going through the motions.

You can still get married in the Catholic church without becoming a Catholic, but its likely that her parents wont be too happy.

News / Poland in coming 5 years [48]

what will happen to all the nice girls?

they will all have well paid career jobs, leaving them no time to spend cooking and cleaning and they will be less likely to look for foreign boyfriends as they will want to stay in Poland and marry a rich Catholic Polish man. All you guys happy now?

UK, Ireland / Do Polish immigrants wish to stay in UK - long term? [92]

Are people changing their plans now that the economy is taking a bit of a downturn ?

well according to the UK papers they are.. they say that droves of Polish people are returning home due to the falling economy in Britain.. that when they came the wages here were 4 times higher than in Poland, but now they are only twice as high and the economy in Poland in getting better, Poles are going home. Not sure if its really true or not.. stories about Polish people in the UK seem to be flavour of the month in the press.

personally I dont care either way as long as my bf stays.

Life / Babies names - spelled similarly in Polish and English [29]

thanks Krysia, I dont want to start calling him John though.. it doesnt have the same appeal to me somehow, might be easier for most English people to remember though as Polish names are often hard to pronounce.

UK, Ireland / Poles working in the UK should be getting more money from your employer! [62]

aint that bad, MW at 0 hours a week would get you about 800 after tax...

sounds pretty good for zero hours! where do I sign up?

do Brits are underpaid as well? or only unaware immigrants

Yes, the streets are not paved with gold and we do have people living below the poverty line in Britain and getting lousy wages... shocking I know! We also have high unemployment which is one reason why some people here are against the influx of immigrants as they feel that they are forcing wages down in certain sectors and 'taking our jobs', not to mention our men, women, houses etc............

UK, Ireland / Poles working in the UK should be getting more money from your employer! [62]

I have read somewhere that an average Polish salary in the UK is 1100 pounds per month, Poles in the UK tend to work long hours, that is why it is so high

Do you really think this is a good salary in the UK? Assuming that you mean after tax and other deductions its still not so good. Try living in London and and see how far that would take you.

Love / A Polish Married Girl Rocks my boat!! [54]

If she likes him too then its her choice, there is no evidence yet that he is merely trying to break up the marriage of someone who is not interested. ..and lets face it that would be pretty hard to do. So lets get all the facts before we start judging people.

Love / Polish Girlfriend, but she is not single ... [35]

look them up where??? do you not think that people can learn by their past mistakes and genuinely change their ways?also the reasons that they cheat on one person dont neccessarily apply to another relationship. (e.g.) you might cheat cos you were being cheated on. Anyone can cheat (or not) and whether or not they have done it before is irrelevant (imo anyway)

UK, Ireland / Meeting Polish girls - where do they hide in London? [60]

Szpilka wrote:
If you do see them in the pub there are usually at least 5-6 sitting around one beer with 5-6 straws in it

thats bollox....

I think you will mostly find them chatting up guys in order to get bought drinks...this is the case in the pubs that I frequent anyway.

Love / English Girls according to Polish Guys....... [68]

I can relate to both sides of the above discussion.. but it doesnt have to be so black and white. In my experience Polish men do have different expectations of a relationship to the average British guy, which can come as a surprise to someone unused to that.. as mentioned by Anja_Rose, but its all down to their upbringing. In a good relationship there should be compromise, although not always easy in practice, both parties need to adapt to each others cultures and accept the differences in order to be happy.

My guy made my sandwiches for work today.. I have never met a British man who would do that!

Love / Polish Girlfriend, but she is not single ... [35]

I think you need to think about what it is YOU want out of it. She could be playing you or she could genuinely care for you, but be fearful of leaving her bf because of repercussions from him, their families and the Polish community that they now belong to..He may also be pretty angry if she does and come looking for you! The reason she is giving you about being financially dependent upon him is not a viable one, if she has other friends here and is able to get even a low paid job then she can surive without him. If she falls in love with you then she will leave him for you no matter what, but it may be too early to tell yet. I dont believe the theory that everyone who cheats on their ex will neccessarily cheat again as all relationships are different. I have been in a similar position and it all worked out fine in the end, but it wasnt easy.

Love / English Girls according to Polish Guys....... [68]

I'm an English girl with a Polish boyfriend.. he didnt speak much English when we met, but we are still together after 2 and a half years and he says English women are much better than Polish in every way.. but clearly its all down to the individual and obviously love is blind. Personally, I didnt go looking for a Polish man, the nationality was incidental.

Life / Local Poles taking advantage of foreigners living in Poland [235]

Nothing English about London, try a smaller city and you will find a huge difference, as an English person I can honestly say I hate London and find the majority of its commuters rude

well you are entitled to your opinion, but remember it is the capital city of your country and believe it or not there are plenty of English people living here, including the Head of State and the Prime Minister..love em or loathe em... Some people do push and shove when commuting, but its not cos they are rude, its just cos they need to get to work and the public transport system is inadequate, so dont blame the commuter, blame Ken Livingstone for not putting on enough trains/buses etc..

UK, Ireland / I'm designing a Polish restaurant for British people - need information [44]

Londoners are going in for Polish food big time.

it is becoming more popular, but thats mostly amongst those who have some Polish connections and the more adventurous types. Its never gonna take over Fish n Chips or Doner Kebabs as the staple diet. :) All the Polish restaurants Ive been to here seem to serve up the same type of food that you can get in jars in the supermarkets, such as Bigos, Golabki etc.. I dont think much of it is freshly made here.

UK, Ireland / What's So Great About The UK? [416]

In answer to the original question.. I would say the British sense of humour and of course the pubs, which are unique (with the exception of Ireland). I have yet to find a British or Irish pub overseas that is good, it is not the decor, but the clientele that make a good traditional British pub.

UK, Ireland / What's it really like being a Polish worker in the UK? [25]

but is anyone here actually Polish (and if not, why you are a member of a Polish forum - not being funny, am just intrigued)?

Would love some answers to the orignal questions, but if no-one can help then any info about where I could find a forum for Polish/Eastern European's in the UK (and written in English) would be gratefully received.

Many thanks,

some people are Polish and some are not. Those who arent have some interest in Poland or Polish people for various reasons. There are other forums, but this is one of the best and there are some Polish people living in the UK who are on here... but maybe they are tired of the same question over and over again...have you tried doing a search on here? I think you will find many comments that might help you on previous threads.

Love / How can I conquer a Polish woman? [84]

thanks. there are no children, they are both living in the UK and have been separated for more than 2 years. I guess they would still need to file in Poland though and not in the UK?

Life / Polish Divorce laws and stigma attached to it [21]

thanks for that info. guys.. very useful. What about the actual cost of filing for divorce.. is that very expensive and how long does it take on average if the non guilty party is not in agreement?
