Genealogy / Ethnicity in Poland [17]

is not 100% Polish people.

There is no a country in the world, which is 100% native, Poland is about 97%, which make It one of the most (If not the most) ethnically homogenic country in Europe. Most of the rest are Ukrainians, Germans, Belorussians - in most cases these people are assimilated and know Polish much better than their "native" language. Only some of Germans are a bit different, because they live mostly in one area and German government gives them a lot of money on keeping their language and culture. There is few Lithuanians and they live mostly in one town near Polish-Lithuanian border, I don't exactly know how that happened, but probably someone forgot to send them on the other side of the border after WW2. Generally there are no problems. Now many foreigners are coming to Poland. The biggest "exotic" minority are Vietnamise - about 50 thousand of them live in Poland.

Work / Coming to Poland with Erasmus? [18]

What is the rate of English(as a foreign language) speaking people in Poland? I mean, will our comminication be easy?

Few people are really fluent, but most of young people understand basic things.

How is the city of Wroclaw and the university? Is it a well-known university in Poland?

Politechnika ? It's maybe not the best, but definately quite good.

Is the city developed in industry?

In last years It's the second (after Warsaw) fastest developing city in Poland.

Finally I will look forward to talk with someone who are from Wroclaw. Is there any?

I'm not, but there are some on the forum.

Work / feedback wanted on teaching job offer [33]

or am I gong crazy????

Well... :)

if AUD is double the zloty - you would multiply by 2

Look, AUD is (over) twice stronger, so you need twice as much PLN to get the same number in AUD.

History / Would Poles prefer that Nazi/Germany to stay in power instead of USSR? [55]

i just thought that the germans were more honest in their intentions of death and destruction, whereas the red army came in as saviours only to imprison poland under communism.

That's true, but Soviets didn't try to exterminate all Poles, at least after 41.

Study / Comparing Educational Standards in Poland vs other countries [88]

According to my international politics book. Poland's edcuation system is ranked slightly lower then the United States education system. And sadly the United States educations system is ranked as average. So Poland's education system is slightly below average.

Maybe, but I really doubt that...

and not psychology which I am told is popular in Poland.

Psychology gives a really good money here.

Life / Applying for EU passport... [51]

what is the basic rate of income tax in PL?

There are 3 rates, 19%, 30% and 40% (in a year or two only 19 and 32), but there are tax reliefs and 30% is only for income over about 10K EUR a year, 40% for over 20K EUR a year and very few people here make so much money. Generally income tax is not a problem, but there's ZUS, VAT, fuel is very overtaxed and so on...

News / Are the Polish embarrased by President Kaczynski? [30]

and a disgrace to Europe

Yep. A disgrace to a kind of Europe, which forbid teachers ask kids about a father or mother, because some could have "two daddies" (or mommies) and which discuss If men shouldn't be allowed to stand when they piss, because women have to sit, so they shouldn't be discriminated...

I wonder If people, who try to register a party of phedophiles and zoophiles in Holland are "a disgrace to Europe" ? Probably not, they are just fighting for their rights...

Food / Good Polish Wines [74]

Polish wine production is growing, because the wheter is getting warmer and there are new kinds of these fruits, but generally "Polish wine" is in most cases a low cost alcohol, which hardly has anything in common with real wine.
