Law / It's Official: Poland Takes Silver regarding Investment Abroad [44]

OK, the main square, but what else? You can basically walk around the main attractions in a couple of hours... Then what? Visiting blocks of apartments outside the main square........ or foreign shopping centres?

I could say the same about Paris- What is in the outskirts.....block of flats, flats.....and quite rough there.

I
have been living in England for about 4.5 years and now each time I go to Krakow,Poland I feel a little more....maybe not alienated but everything in Poland is changing and as I live abroad you miss it, don't notice. I think Krakow is pretty and full of charm it was like this and will be this.

It is becoming better and better they built new roads, modern shopping centres, ( I didn't visit new Kazimierz Shopping centre quite stylish).

New flats are modern, smart... But near older one it is little neglected...some rubbish, rusty fences...just little things it is not money just attitude sometimes, road signs are really bad again not money just attitude. But i think that in general it is changing for better.

Saying about property prices look at London, Oxford.... properties are overpriced there and also average "John" struggle to buy anything there.

As for Krakow, there is so much more than the main square.

Wawel Castle and Cathedral
Kazimierz-The Jewish Quarter
Da Vinci's "Lady with Ermine"
Giant Burial Mounds
Jagiellonian University
The Royal Route
And not so far away is Auscwitz Birkenau and Wieliczka Salt Mines

I have to say that I don't see your point.

Maybe if someone doesn't have much imagination he can't see much anywhere.....
and comparing to Germany ????? I wouldn't call germany as touristic paradise.

you poor poles how will you cope with rude ignorent english neighbours lol

We will survive there I am learning your sarcastic attitude very quickly.:)

I also watched this program. I think that properties in places like Krakow, Gdansk, mountains.... will grow. But not everywhere.

Krakow prices are growing very quickly and demand is really big.
I am thinking about buying flat there ( they will be built in a next 1-1.5 year). I hope to pay no more than 40-45 thousand pounds for 1 bedroom flat.

/ People who want to make money from property but also want to get some sunshine on their backs so choose countries with a warm climate e.g. Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria (to a certain extent) etc.

2/ People who want to make money from property and don't care where they invest as long as the profit margins are good.

I suppose so. It also depends what someone likes. Spending all days on the beach can be little boring after while. Krakow has much more to offer on culture, sipritual filed.

lol maybe 10 english peeps will move into one house and have parties every night all night!!"

maybe we should invite Freddie:) for one of these parties?

News / Polish government punishes charitable givers [25]

I meant truly ill, unable to work. But it is the same in Poland you can find quite a few of them doing the same. One of my neighbour's was claimimng disability allowance for ...I dont know his back....he was a carpenter and at the same time he went to Germany to work.:(

Well if you want it real easy, come to Britain. I'm willing to put a fair wedge of my hard earned cash towards anyone but those who really need it. Just ask Tony Blair.

I'm not implying Poles in particular here. When I say anybody. I mean anybody who's life plan is to live off the backs of others....

I completely agree.....

Lets show some kindness and understanding to these people,

I don't have much understanding. I can understand if someone is ill, disabled, ....

But they are just lazy- if they want be lazy ok but they want food, cigarettes, booze ....from taxes paid by other people. It is immoral and disgusting for me.

Love / Eastern European Girls Common Characteristics [40]

too visual.:)

I wouldn't say that polish girls are easy.

I watched this week documentry program in TV here about special date agency in Russia to find Russian wives for American , English men.

There was one woman and few men were sending her money each month. One of them English factory worker living in rented, scruffy, house, no car was sending her 60 pounds a week. She visited him stayed for few weeks and dissapeared. It was rather sad, this man was rather poor and she exploited him. Why did he do it???? I supposed wanted to "buy" her?

UK, Ireland / Polish people on North of England? [22]

iwona,

A small part of it is old English and there are some Viking words too.

Most regions in the UK have words and phrases that confuse foreigners.

Another problem with North-East folk is that they seem to have invented their own grammar.

You know it shows English - yoy really like to be little different, original...:)

Size of England is probbaly similar to Poland. We have different accents in different regions but in general we understand each other. But here.. Liverpool, Newcastle, ...what about Scotland, Wales....

What am I to say "poor foreigner" as you don't always understand each other .:)

Real Estate / New flat from developer in Poland - question [5]

Can I ask you, how much is the cost of the new apartment?

It depends on location,size........My developer bought land but prices are not set up yet.

But it will be for about 6 000 pln for 1 square m. It is still srodmiescie in krakow but on the north edges.

So I suppose 40-45 square m will cost about 40-45 thousand pounds.

thanks Bolo, there is quite much information in this article.

What I still don't know is if I had to to sell this flat Would I have to pay tax in England.
They don't have anything like this 5 years period. You pay always tax. I don't know if there is communication between Polish and british Inland revenue?

Food / Polish regions and food [16]

I know gofry but I think this is really Belgium dish.

Plauchy- look similar to obwarzanki from Krakow. Obwarzanki have only different shape they are round. Have you ever been to Krakow? They sell them fresh first thing in the morning. But I think they are probbaly harder, these paluchy look quite soft.

Real Estate / New flat from developer in Poland - question [5]

Is it true that if someone buys new flat from developer in Poland he doesn't have to pay 2% tax?
I know that if someone has house/flat for at least 5 years and sells it he doesn't pay income tax. But what if I am British resident ( I live and work in UK but have polish passport) will I have to pay tax according to british law? ( capital gains tax)

It is little confusing.
