UK, Ireland / Stop the exploitation of Polish workers in the UK [101]

This post is getting out of hand...I don't mind a heated arguement but not they way things are going here...I have no problem people having a go at poles living in gb and taking jobs etc....I repeat my previous comments that the poles have done nothing wrong in working in the UK, or the way they spend there money, or how they live..I could only make an observation in stating... How would poles react if there town ie Zamosc was invaded by people arrivng by the bus loads every day seeking work...lurking around the streets, living in large groups etc...I personallyn would hate to see Rumanians coming to poland, let alone Indians/pakis/turks

Have you ever been in one of those "Biedronka" markets?

Well what can I say..mmm... I must have worn blinkers when in poland as most food dishes involved potatoes, cabbage and pork..

You win the arguement....however when I go to poland next year and I don't get those nice foods you mentioned. I will hold you personally responsible... I still have a score to settle with my relatives in poland for not providing me with better food......

re you written english... you must have been taught by a non national?

USA, Canada / Polish people view of the United States [54]

Ameryka to korwa i zlodziej”.. America is a land of a whore and a thief.

Good point, however, the american people and landscape are pretty good.. What I have issue is the cigar smoking capitalist people who run america and cause all our problems

UK, Ireland / Poles in Ireland, are they second class citizens? [90]

"Irish employers can be ‘racist’ in their treatment of Poles and other central Europeans who are competing with each other for jobs and that this ‘racism’ will get worse if Ireland's booming economy falters.

Many of the estimated 120,000 Poles who have turned up in Ireland in the last eighteen months have had trouble fitting in to Irish society, do not speak English, have not found work and are living in sub-standard accommodation, or are homeless. In the last 12 months eight lonely Poles have taken their own lives in Ireland.

The ‘fairytales’ told by Polish media about Dublin’s streets being paved with gold Euro coins are blamed. These stories have filled young Poles with false expectations of how easy it will be to make a new life for themselves in the Emerald Isle. And the Irish are using Poles, Czechs, Lithuanians and so on as cheap labour, while failing to provide support for those who run into trouble. "

I was upset reading this article... are poles second class citizens in Ireland, being used as cheap labour....high incidents o suicide???.....A lot of people are now saying that poles in UK and Ireland should return home and help build there own country?

Quoting: lef, Post #77
I liked your response, your writing skills suggests that you are not polish, if you are, then well done. You must also belong to the higher level of polish society

Nope. I'm just an "average Pole".

12 out of 10...average pole but your written english is pretty good

So now you are trying to say that these are the only vegetables and fruits that Poles eat on a regular basis? Common lef...

Thats what the common folk have, the rich can pick and choose.

Tell me then, what do an average Pole like me eat in winter. I'm very curios.

From my experience, plenty of hearty soups, and pork, bigos and pierogi?

Let me guess, your parents didn't prepared you proper dishes when you were little, right?

Be honest, please.

I've been bought up on traditional polish food, some I have retained, most is unsuitable for this climate...although lots of foods have identical ingrediants but prepared differently ie you get polish potatoe pancakes....raw potatoe grated, egg and floor.. salt and pepper..

a great food, here we have potatoe cakes.. sliced raw potatoe dipped in flour batter (salt, pepper, flour egg and deep fryed.. which is better... ? lets toss a coin, I prefer potatoe cakes most of the time..

Take away food is a way of life in western countries...it is a cheap and quick way of eating for people who work full time or long hours..some take away food is bad for you, some is o/k in moderation.. Take away food will clean bowl poland when the economy takes on, it will be carefully engineered to hit all types of people (mainly the young) and like I mentioned in a previous post, people will be voting with there mouths, no amount

of logic re health issues with have any effect. (this is the case in usa/uk/oz) people love there takeaway.

PS: There is also one more aspect that you didn't took under your consideration, and may be crucial in our discussion, mainly the "Bary Mleczne" (Milk Bars). The are selling Polish food, and they are a lot cheaper than MacDonald’s or KFC

They are excellent and cheap, agreed... Please understand western style business operations... Take away food chains discount items, offer prices and gifts. They will offer things cheaper to people until there rivals are unable to compete, The rivals then go bankrupt and then the take away food stores put up the prices...

If Poland was smart they would learn from other countries who have massive take away food options and impose a tax of 50% on all sales of take away...money going to hospitals to treat the effects of junk food...

Real Estate / Real estate in poland - how an average Pole can afford such prices? [78]

but don`t come crying when you`re going to face the consequences of your actions.

The best way is to buy direct from the owner and pay when the property is transferred into your name, saves paying 3% commission to the real estate agents...ie property worth 400000zl , your paying 12000zl, for some it is 12 months wages...

UK, Ireland / English people attitude towards Poles? [761]

Charity to offer destitute Poles chance to go home

So many Poles are living in squalor and poverty on the streets of Britain that a Polish charity is sending staff to London to persuade them to return home.

The Barka Foundation, a non-governmental organisation based in Poznan, western Poland, was alerted by British charities. They fear that many of the Poles are turning to drugs, prostitution and crime.

Real Estate / Real estate in poland - how an average Pole can afford such prices? [78]

Apart from bigger cities, I don't think preference for certain properties is as advanced as in the west....I stlill believe that polish people are buying and selling in droves, some homes for sale are still for sale after 2 years...the only people making money are real estate agents.... I pity any person announcing himself to be from overseas to a real estate agent, be prepared to be pay double. or thereabouts

The average tax on a home is about $3.000-$6.000. yearly or more.

is that for an investment property or are they part of local council rates... I believe council rates are to be introduced in poland, rates are determined by the value of your property..the money goes to your local town and used to employ fat cats who do nothing, any left overs go to improve local roads, facilities and structures.

It will be very difficult to get an accurate picture of prices of homes in each country...homes in city areas are more expensive than country houses...and location, location, location is the name of the game.

Perhaps we can agree that buying a decent property in poland, something that you could write home about is City areas ie Warsaw/krakow approx 1m zl or country areas about 400000zl... agreed.

Poland has real bread

The thing is everything is NATURAL. In America skim milk tastes like water. You have to buy the organic kind to get the same taste as the Polish skim milk for example

I agree 100%, I love polish dairy products and breads, they are best in the world, point taken.

Youn may well find in time when big companies take over the smaller family busineses, bread will taste the same as in US or OZ (pretty plain)

but still i really like the Polish food.you don't like it,ok,i can respect it

What I'm saying is to have a open mind, polish food is not the only food on the market.
I like polish soups, pork dishes and chickens....my ideal meal is a roast leg of lamb, roast potatoes and pumpkin and peas...withs lots of gravy....it beats any meal on earth.

.....where will you be buying

I meant to ask you if you were going to buy the whole town of zamosc?:) when you return from the UK....

what is your definition of a mansion? is it another word for a house?

O'K lets give it a go.....a place in poland, and average wages.. followed by a average price of a house...not flat or apartment....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that means that fast food will win with polish food because it is cheaper, and then polish food will be eaten only by poor people.

I liked your response, your writing skills suggests that you are not polish, if you are, then well done. You must also belong to the higher level of polish society

For many people who work full time, unless you have babcia at home cooking for you it is cheaper to buy take away... ie time associated with buying food, cooking, cleaning up etc.

Take away food isn't just hamburgers it can be a wide rage of foods.

Now I fell offended by you thinking that as a polish person I have never tried fresh vegetables and fruits. For your information, we do have them in Poland

I never said that, having a wide variety of different fruits and vegetables which are accessible daily is important.. From my experience apart from strawberries in season, tomartoes, cabbage, potatoes are pretty cheap the more exotic fruits are expensive.

There is not much variety in winter unless you are flush with funds and prepared to pay a high price.

Besides, one of my favorite dishes is duck with pyzy and red cabbage /"surówka" /"kiszona kapusta". Isn't duck meat considerate to be lean?

What a feast, very nice food, I don't think the average pole would be able to affort such a treat.

but please accept that polish people have been eating it since centuries, and still enjoy doing it. Not everybody has to love the food that you do

I don't like saying this but poles have not been exposed to variety of other foods....sorry

One more thing. The kids don’t eat fast food because it’s remarkably tasty, but they eat it because they don’t know better.

The problem is that take away food contains excess sugars, fats, and salt that makes it tasty and addictive...I might say say that I love take away but now only realising that it is bad for you.... Children listen to what is on TV and act accordingly.

A company like Mcdonalds carefully engineer there advertising to target the young, everying from the color of there stores ie Yellow, red. blue are attractive colors for children to free gifts etc

Don't forget Bill Clinton loved his takeaways.

I’m not blind, nor stupid. I know that many Poles will take the easy path, but observing my family, and friends I’m very confident, that things aren’t going to change drastically in the next few generations.

I hope your right, but going by overseas trends, I don't think so. obesity is become a cronic problem in western countries.. USA leading followed by UK and Oz... like I mentioned before problems associated with overeating will kill our health system..

Let me ask you a question lef. How does the situation look with your national cuisine? Does it still exist, or is it "the food of the past"?

Good question, does any country have a national dish!

I suppose roast lamb/chicken and potatoes but thats what the British have.

Its probally the barbecue... lots of red meat and prawns (beer to wash it down)

Because oz land is a very multi cultural society, people enjoy variations of chinese, greek, italian etc food. the days of having steak and chips at a restuarant are well and truly gone.

Did anyone compared- average incone and property price in Poland, England....Australia

You would need to find a similiar type of location in each country and the income earned from that person in that area. any other suggestions?

a huge manision near the place i lived 200.000zl.(10 rooms 8 km from zamosc)

Thats pretty cheap, I must investigate, thanks for the info.....where will you be buying?

Life / Drought in Poland [2]

clobal warming and changes in temperatures is a world wide problem and some people say that future wars will be fought over water access.
The situation in poland is worse because few homes have air conditioning and there is a huge cost associated with its use.
I've always found it hard getting a ice cold can of coke or beer when in poland, I can see that this won't get much better..mmmm

Real Estate / Real estate in poland - how an average Pole can afford such prices? [78]

I follow housing trends in oz, but can only make the following observations

When you say housing falls by 4% it doesn't mean all homes fall that much, properties in prime locations will either remain the same or increase, I'm not an oxford scholar but if you bought in central Krakow or near old town warsaw you will never go wrong

The point to remember is real estate goes through a cycle (ups and downs) and it depends what point you are buying if it will be a good investment.

If you want my opinion the polish real estate market has not been fully tested and there is a lot of the hysteria about prices.. I think prices are being propped up by real estate agent and investors.. (I'm not saying some homes are not worth what they are)

For a person wanting to buy a house to live (not an investment) anytime is a good time to start. (it beats paying rent)

Income and Wages determine the price of homes in most countries.(poland has low income)

The wild card in all this (and I wouldn't mind wujeks opinion on this) is the price of shares in quality companies, if they were to boom, if that was the case most investors will opt for buying shares, and in times of recession they will put money in the bank and get good interest.

One thing also is the polish government will want to get its cut in the form of a capital gains tax and associated fees..mmmmm

One thing I am sure is the homes in the country area will remain stable... (although a heard a commentary from a bank chief who stated that homes in poland would fall by 50%) who knows.. Keep in mind what happened in Japan in the 70/80's

I've been tempted in buying a house in poland (a lot of fors and against) if I did buy I would buy a period home and do it up

Zamosc.come on people it is a quite interesting place! you are all invited

I've actually have visited zamosc, yeah it is nice......whats the price of a nice home in zamosc?

Life / Kidnaping in Poland? [58]

Recently I've been interested in Poland. I heard there are more and more well-off people or members of their families that are being kidnapped for ransom. What's up with that? The police must have too little power in Poland that such situations happen in such country like Poland.. I thought such things could happen on daily basis only in "3rd world countries".

Don't worry about being kidnapped, if people know your from overseas you will be a sure target of being robbed... I'll probally get a post informing me of police stats.. most people don't report cash thefts as it is not covered by any insurance policy.

Each to his own, a lot of polish food is cabbage/flour based....once you have tasted lighter foods, such as fresh fish/seafoods/lean meats and fresh variety of vegetables and fruits you may change your opinion..

In all western countries take away food is the biggest money earner... this will occur also in poland...Just recently a american donut shop opened here (there were queues a mile long and people were buying by the dozen) Now these donuts contained 25% fat

Foods without fat and salt have no taste...

You mark my words as Poland adapts to western living take away food will be the order of the day... It will also bring about new medical issues such as sugar diabetes/ heart attacks/illnesses associated with being overweight in which the polish hospital system will not be able to cope.

You may well find that bigos and pierogi will be the food of the past or reserved for poor people.

UK, Ireland / Stop the exploitation of Polish workers in the UK [101]

Because so many workers belong to a Union, the union protects their rights

Good point, thanks to the unions kids under 14 are still not working long hours in coal mines etc,, we can now enjoy award wages and conditions, 4 weeks annual leave, long service leave, double pay for work in the week end, and triple time for public holidays.

It is an offfence to employ illegal immigrants

Life / American moving to Poland [34]

Guess has better employment opportunities in US.

Depends where you best feel at home, strawberry picking is only an example, most people who settled in oz from poland had labouring type work, mainly because of language problems still lived a good lifestyle, their children reaped the benefits. Apart from myself very few people of polish parents here, would consider returning to poland to live pernamently.

Unfortuanately most people want a highly paid job form day 1, you have to build up to it.

There used to be a saying that goes, work in america and spend in poland that dosn't work anymore..

lef it is so nice to hear from you again.i thought that my little joke about australia putt you off that forum and u failed to see the funny side of it

Thanks rafik, thanks for your trust and support, I do get a bit feed up when I hear so much nonsense from a few people who seem to have hijacked this forum.. Nothing but there bigoted opinions seem to count.. You would think that you were living in Soviet Russian during Stalinist times or Germany in the 30's in how they respond to a different point of view.

Some peoples definition of democracy is an opportunity to make money, it should be the ability to allow somebody to speak his or her mind.

I certainly want to give polish people sound advice (as per previous posts) and am able to offer sound advice of anything to do with oz land.

Thanks rafik for showing your concerns.
