Was she hungry? (like biting?)
Or did you get scratched. :(

Love / Polish girls and this age thing? [173]

I used to be more honest and I can see that it actually hurts my relationships.

Hmmmm.....what do you mean? That things were clearer before?

See I'm also in management, and I also had to learn how to deal with people in a non-threatening way. If I hadn't learned to do that, people were afraid to approach me. It has carried over into other aspects of my life. I guess it's useful, but I just could not let loose on someone, unless I was over-the-top furious, and then that would scare the hell out of people that had never seen me like that.

I guess I should just learn to live with it. I can be honest, I just do it in a gentle way.

Just shut that out and concentrate on what you really want to say and feel. Its better to carry some ill will towards you for one or two comments, then to pretend.

I think I have adapted this because in face-to-face dealings a lot of people are intimidated by me. I don't know why that is, but I have been told this all my life. One friend said I was like "the godfather" or something. So I try to speak very gently and carefully.....

But even if people are afraid of me, I'm still not a mean person at heart.

I like the truth too. But I can't tell it without first putting myself through the paces of how what I will say is going to affect the listener. It's a problem.

I've always valued your honesty, Wyspi, you don't beat around the bush.

Question: Why can some people say exactly what is on his/her mind and not worry what others will think or if it will hurt someone?

Is it because you are anonymous here?
Can you be that way all the time, with anyone?
Does it depend on your mood?

Just curious....
I can't really do that.
Unless very pissed off, but even then I'm nice....

Life / Goth scene in Poland [30]

lol Now how did I survive here being a punk rocker as adolescent?

Maty were you really a punk rocker?
That is so cool! And probably brave.

When I was a teen (a thousand years ago) in college, I was very into punk/new wave etc. I went to school in the middle of the country side (the biggest part of the school was devoted to agriculture, rodeo and the like).

I was at a pizza place with my friends one night, dressed-up as pirates circa Adam Ant (we all had spiky colored hair, eye liner etc), right after a Hank Williams Jr. concert ended. To make a long story short, the police picked us up and delivered us to safety! (We would have never gotten out of there alive, otherwise).

Ahh the good old days....

Genealogy / Polish Silesians? [25]

being called "the Polaks" for years

Germans being teased and called "Polaks"?
That's something I wouldn't have imagined!
Oh well...... :)

It's always hard to be the one who is different, no matter who you are!

Love / Meaning of Friendship (my friends is going back to Poland) [57]

It might sound lame, but it's true.....that sometimes when a door closes, a window opens.
You will have other friends, maybe even of the caliber of this friendship, just be patient.
We have a way of drawing the people that we need into our lives. :)

Life / Looking for some good Polish bands like Oasis, Panic! etc. [19]

I just thought I would mention that the B-52's have a new album coming out later this month: FUNPLEX and apparently critics are saying it's great. :)

Go Kate and Cindy!

PS. My fave Polish band is Myslovitz. I would call them alternative, but they have their own sound. Check them out on You Tube if you like.

USA, Canada / Gas prices in America [127]

I know, it sounds strange, but it does better in a city then a highway.

Doesn't it charge up a little when you use the brakes?

Genealogy / Races of white people... [99]

So then...if I am following your logic correctly....you are acknowledging the difference between genetics and the physical appearances that are expressed? Kind of a genotype vs. phenotype thing?

Or am I wandering in the fog (which has been known to happen and I rather enjoy the fog)

But don't we need a way to describe differences in humans, just as a botanist would describe and differentiate variation in plants?

What is the problem with acknowledging differences?
Or is it just the term that you don't like?

*looks confused*

USA, Canada / Gas prices in America [127]

Maybe we could persuade the elk to get up a good run and just JUMP OVER the car!
That would work! (I wouldn't mind spending less on petrol, that's for sure!) :)

I certainly don't make any unnecessary trips anymore, I find. :)

Another interesting thing....every year, around time for Spring Break, gas prices skyrocket....then gradually decrease over the summer. In the next spring, the cylce repeats.

WHAT is up with that?

Genealogy / Races of white people... [99]

I find terms like 'white race' very problematic. Linguistics seems to be a very poor basis for describing race. The same also goes for geographical location, although perhaps slightly less so.

Let's all get a DNA test and then we can argue based on some new category! Fun! :)

USA, Canada / Gas prices in America [127]

But its very dramatic this year...the increase in tiny cars....some of them are soooo cute! I want one myself! :)

But I'm very frightened of what would happen if I were to hit an Elk while driving one......I clipped an elk in the fall and it removed my passenger side mirror clean off the door! It was horrifying! :(

I think people in the US are already changing what they drive. I see lots more compact cars on the road now, less SUVs.

News / US military... how does poland feel about the US military? [70]

They probably know more about being an American than most Americans born here.

It has occurred to me, that the fact that the country was built of immigrants who came here for freedoms not found in his/her own country, might be part of why freedom is such a prized value here, maybe more than in other places........????
