You don't really transfer it anyway. The spouses get some kind of preferential treatment but they go thru the same process to become a citizen. Once they become a citizen they are a full citizen and if they marry someone who isn't one the same thing applies to that person. I don't think it's the actual citizenship that get's transfered.

I know where you are coming from, Ironside. People came to America for a better life because there were no kings and everyman could own land. People thought life was better in America once. When Europe had two big wars it wasn't a surprise to many Americans because this is one of the reasons either they or their grandparents moved to America in the first place. They weren't anxious to get involved because they wanted to get away from fighting wars. When we did get involved we felt like we defeated the Nazis (with the help of the Russians, of course) and expected each of our feets kissed because of that. That's why some on here hollar about unappreciative Europeans but since so many of us got families in Europe we should help them out and support their prospering whenever possible.

People who don't live here tend to blame the US for everything and are jealous of things like free school textbooks and luxury exec homes available to far more people than any other country on earth. You don't have to know the Prince or the PM to qualify.

The only voice we hear is that of our lovely Lady Liberty donated to us by the great French nation :) :) :) :)

I thought the cold war started right after people started to leave eastern Europe and Berlin was blockaded or that's what I read in history class in school. People were leaving the Soviet occupied parts of Europe so the Soviets started making it nearly impossible to immigrate and they walled off Berlin to keep people in.

People say the US sold out Eastern Europe but it sounds improbable based on what you are saying. Why would there be a "cold war" if it were as simple as us selling them out?

As for your comment about the Russians getting slaughtered because Americans didn't want casualties, I disagree. They were closer to the Nazis than the Americans. If the Nazis were in Mexico instead of Germany would the Soviet Union have done most the fighting? Not likely. At the time, before the jumbo jet, Europe was still a boat ride away for most.

Most likely not because the cold war didn't start until all the great brains started fleeing the east moving to the west. If this hadn't have happened who knows, maybe the cold war wouldn't have happened either and we would have had a better relationship with the USSR.
