Hey everyone. Somewhat new the forum and looking for some information, but I have no idea where to start. I'm looking to bring my girlfriend to the US so that she can work. We eventually want to get married, but not anything big yet. We've been dating for about 5 years, so we've decided that we need to make a decision ASAP. I was thinking that we can start with a civil wedding just so that we can get her a job, which I hear can take 6 mos from the time of the marriage. Is this true? Also, what would be some of the legal fees that we would face? What might be some other helpful information that I'd need to have prepared or warnings that I may need to know about.

I'd also like some personal experience if any has some to share. I'm looking for things that may be obstacles.
I appreciate the info provided. Thank you.

Have her go to the US embassy in Poland and start the K1 Visa application/process. The State Dept. issues Visas so it all has to start there. There's two places, the US Embassy in Warsaw and the US Consulate General in Krakow.

with the immigration office everything takes too long, months to get something done...so be ready to wait and be patient... beside, if she comes to the us as your fiance, you'll have 30, 60 or 90 days (i'm not sure) to get married (formal ceremony)... but check it out to make sure...
Once she gets here with her K1 Visa it's 90 days to get married.

@treeman
Ask at the US embassy. They'll tell you what is and is not possible. No point in talking to a lawyer until you know what's possible.
I wouldn't hold my breath. As far as the embassy is concerned, your girlfriend and her kid are no one to you until you get married.
