A female Asian student considers studying in Poland

Hello everyone, I am thinking of furthering my studies in Poland. However there are some issues that have been pulling me back.

I am a female asian student, and ive heard of things that since poland are 99% white, they can be quite racist. Because of such, my family are rather unwilling to send me over there. I went poland once, to krakow and warsaw but i haven't had much interaction with the locals. However, when i went to krakow, i realised that the locals can be very rude. So i am wondering if it is really ok and safe to study there?

By the way, i am considering uni warsaw.

yup, they can be rude but I don't think they are capable to go too far. I mean after 20 years of "capitalism" we still don't carry guns, knives or screwdrivers in the pocket. Furthermore I think e.g. Olsztyn became safer because lot of scum went to the Western Europe after 2004.

My roomamate is Asian. She's been living here for over a year and she's fine. I'm sure you'll be fine too if you decide to come here.

peter_olsztyn: True. In my country we arent allowed to carry anything that you have mentioned above either.

jablko: Not complaining, merely concerned

- That is true, vast majority is white, just as there's vast majority of Asians in e.g. China...

they can be quite racist

we still don't carry guns, knives or screwdrivers in the pocket

Asian means different things in different places, you need to be more precise.

East Asian = probably okay

South Asian (Indian subcontinent) = iffy, it depends some on religion and look.

On a one to one basis few Polish people will be overtly racist (though in public a few jerks will say things)

Also, Polish people are often kind of .... abrupt with each other so apparent rudeness isn't necessarily aimed at you personally. You get used to it.

yes, poles are racist, rude and wild. they used to eat foreigners - eg. i'm prefering asians, especially due to better diet compared to eg. - americans. its just like choosing between hamburger to sushi :)

would you prefer hamburger? don't think so...

have nice day :)

Yeah, but when you've eaten one, you feel like eating another 20 minutes later.

tHIS was posted obviously by a typical polish racist criminal to try and discourage asians coming to poland. Asians are coming to poland..I was there last year and saw many foreigners including asians.

POLAND IS WELCOMING FOR ASIANS. LIKE ANYWHERE YOU GET SOME BAD ONES BUT POLAND IS PROUD TO BE MULTICULTURAL. My friedn who is as black as you can get lives in poland and is doing very well for himself and his family. Poland itself has very diverse roots as it has a proud jewish and russian heritage

Trolling. Especially since he/she/it just said this on another thread:

polish scum

They are backward, racist and rude in my experience

here
Either a troll or a madman.

In fact the OP should note that like everywhere else, people in small, out-of-the way towns might be racist for whatever reason, but in big cities (where universities tend to be) people are far less so. You should come to Poland, it will be a great experience.

I'm in Warsaw for a week and I loooooove Asians. I got the yellow fever if u put it that way. Cant appreciate women of other races anymore :-(

So I'd be open to a date with an Asian girl :-) (21 years old)

One other thing to remember about your previous experience, most people you meet on the street in big cities tend not to be very polite anyway. London is particularly bad for this as I can attest, the thing is London VERY multicultural, but sometimes people are just rude.

Dude, from what i've read from this thread is all the same everywhere. Locals hate tourist, just like in school, seniors hate freshmen. Its just part of life, so if you want to come to a new world, new place, i would suggest though it up, don't take bullcrap from anybody and you'll be alright, if not...well, you can always come back right...

ps: i've been living in 3 continents before, so i know what im talking about...

I am Asian as well.
Of course, there are Polish people who don't mind Asians in Warsaw. However, what you've heard about them are true. Very true.
Many people (West Europeans) warn me, yet I had a little doubt before coming here like you. But it is very true, unfortunately.

The only people who complain are ( stereotypically ) Indians and Pakistanis.

Poland's had a huge influx of Vietnamese in the 1990's, back when they had machine gun assassinations 40 meters away from Palac Kultury in Warsaw, and said Vietnamese are doing wonderfully right now.

I know Warsaw, Kraków and Olsztyn.

Go to Warsaw babe because the other places are too small. I've been 22 years in Toronto and 12 years with an Asian woman.
The Asian women got no faults, they are perfect. Honest, beautiful, good figured, hot, open, just perfect.

Write to me, I will be in Poland in 2 months. I speak Polish, English, Spanish, Russian and Tagalog.
Got Master of science deree in Computer Science, so I can teach you something but not Ginecology, sorry:)
Unless you teach me. :)

But you better be smart and pretty, Cuidate;)
