Flood situation worsens in southern Poland

sorry for the doubt on my side.

I noticed a few folks taking pictures from one of the bridges this afternoon. it's something i expect to see more of. i'll do the same and post a couple in a day or two.

They have blocked roads around here because so many people have come out to take pictures :).
I had to sneak around them to take my film:

And no problem with doubt, I doubt many things all the time and I am not ve..ry good at communicating in this medium, I am more of a talker, a story teller :)

I hope that is the worst of the flooding, it has been a catastrophe, I read a very rough estimate of 2 Billion Zloty (half a billion Euros) damage so far.

Pcim, up the road from here, is completely destroyed, Tusk flew over in a helicopter today.

I've not long been to the bouncing bridge, near the Park Plaza Hotel.

Those who know Wroclaw will know that Wyspa Slodowa is at most two metres above normal water level. It is nowhere near being flooded.
The river is very turbulent only because of a weir near the bridge.
However, the river is higher than usual, but there is no reason to leave town

I'd say this flood is a non-event.

So it looks like the rivers are down and no longer a threat, south of Krakow.
And the weather has been on and off but not raining.
So that looks like it, for now.

An estimated 10 Billion Zloty damage will be the bill at the end.

the river here is up a metre or so. i noticed that some people have moved their caravans, cars to higher ground.
the river behind the olympic stadium is now spreading across the flood plain or whatever that area is called between the dykes.
it still has to rise another 5 or 6 metres before it breaches them.
it's noticeable that the river walls are at different heights, depending where you are.
the time to panic is in the next couple of hours.
as it is i think people caught a wild fever yesterday. the shops made a killing though.

I was thinking about driving to Legnica and buying a couple of crates of water and doing some good old fashioned panic profiteering.

What country in Europe is able to handle flooding in the best way possible? I mean are there technologies besides dykes that have been implemented in other European cities that Poland could use? How often does Poland get flooded in comparison to its neighbours?

Their neighbours are also flooded, Czech, Slovakia, Hungary and BB was talking about Germany but I believe that is to a lesser extent.

They showed pictures from some villages on the TV-news, it looked really bad.

I've just checked the river here. It's higher than yesterday evening, but not a threat.

I did notice a small stretch of riverbank erosion on one of the islands in the river.

It's actually difficult to find anything exciting to report.

In this situation, no news is great news.

Warsaw is reportedly having it's highest water level now and it seems to be manageable.

I think half of southern Poland has floated through Wroclaw though. I did some investigation yesterday at Tawerna...might do some more inspecting this afternoon...

Folks are now getting their feet wet in Psie Pola, where the Widawa has broken it's banks.

And also in Kozanow, which got the worst of the flood in 97.

Does it become western Poland or does it remain southern and change the cardinal points?

I think we should sue God for the flood, or at least the Roman catholic Church, as they represent God.
If God made this flood, surely he should be accountable for it? roughly 23,000 people had to be evacuated from their homes and a rough estimate of 10 billion Zloty worth of damage, all caused by God.

Luckily his church is supper rich and has plenty of empty buildings all over the country to house these people.
I am told that God loves us, so I am sure he will help all those people who he has caused great damage to, other wise we will have to add In absentia, for gross neglect.

LOl - TVN 24 had an image of a woman supplicating herself on her knees on a village road.
It's simple really = don't build illegal housing, stamp out unregulated building - bulldoze buildings that are the result of corruption.

As before - zero sympathy from me, only smirks, for the new villa people who have ruined the Polish countryside with their tasteless and bribed creations.

I must admit, I don't particularly feel any sympathy for them either - if they were daft enough to build on floodplains (no doubt because many of those people are very greedy and saw the chance to save some cash!) - then they have to take the consequences.

The amount of seemingly unregulated development in Poland is staggering - and the country is going to regret it in years to come.

I know people who are trying to bring reason to all this inappropriate building. They are fighting an uphill battle.

True story:
Due to the flood of 1997 some folks in Kozanow, Wroclaw had to be rehoused. A new building was erected in a nearby area and the unwilling folks moved in. They were told not to worry.

And to paraphrase: 'a disaster like this only happens every one or two-thousand years'
Guess what happened to these folks thirteen years later.

We are worried because we have not heard from him, I have been following the flood reports on youtube, I am so sorry for you people out there. We are coming to meet wifes uncle for the first time in September, I wish we could come out now and help in someway. God bless you all.

Things in Wroclaw are not too bad compared to other parts of the country.

The river level seems to have gone down. At a guess by more than a metre.

There was something on TVN News about folks shooting beaver. I was listening to music and watching the telly so missed where it was. Daughter number 3 explained what was going on.

I'll check the facts later.
