Thanks! As I understand it, the gentleman received 6 months suspended, a fine of 2,400 zl, donated 4,000 zl to some charity, was banned from driving for 4 years, was suspended from the bishopry, but in 2015 was reinstated in some post............

The 6 months suspended stuff would be laughable. I got 2 years probation and some aggravation when a woman walked out into the road plumb in front of my car and I was unable to stop in time, although driving under the speed limit.

All the above might indicate why you never "informed the board" as to this gentleman's misdemeanours and the ridiculousness of the status of this medieval religion- but I'm sure you can shed some light on my misunderstanding of the truth of the matter?

A two-year (!) suspended stuff for a first-time offender and with no human damage resulting from it would be a typical ruling for the typical Jan Kowalski in such a case - my acquaintances in the Polish legal system inform me. So the bishop was no exception here. Btw, your 'allies' in this thread were ridiculing a supposedly much less severe sentence, but now you are pushing the 'laughable' stamp for such a rulaing very much upwards, so it is likely that a sentence of, say, 12 years in prison for this deed would be merely called 'moderate' rather than 'severe' by you in the case of the offender being a Catholic bishop.

The ruling was in fact the 2-year suspension of a six-month in-prison sentence.

Mmm - 2 promil is a wilful offence. I wouldn't care to test the courts patience myself. Would you? 3 months in prison is a very likely result (or why would drunk cyclists be sent to prison for cycling from their home to the village shop?)

Congregations range from several hundred to several thousand. Dunno if any figures are available but it's a staggering number.

I was glad to be out of there to be honest, as a westerner there were places I could not go near after Friday prayers dependent on how much the iman had stirred up the locals with his sermons.don't tell me Poland's that bad in comparison.

must have been on Sunday - Corpus Christi was on Thursday and it always involve a procession a lot further away from the churches - I don't consider myself Catholic but my mum often goes to church and she was busy preparing a little field altar (not on her own) at which the procession would stop on its way.

If they walked around the church there msut have been four altars located thereabouts. Our own small parish in Żoliborz had maybe 400 at mass and the procession covering about a 1.5 km to the four altars and lasting 2 hours. The procession passes by our home so we decorate it with a crucifix, flowers and crossed Polish and Vatican flags.

Several thousand took part at the much larger St Stanislaus Kosta Church (Bl. Jerzy's parish) nearby.
