Don't you hate PL?

Real Estate / TRESPASSING ON MY LAND IN POLAND....what can i do legally...? [119]

I drive a Prius and think eating meat is wrong, I then call people who eat meat and don't drive priuses uneducated and also like to feel like a rebel against the corporations. Global warming will kill us all in the next week or so and by not eating meat i'm actually single handedly saving the planet from a phenomenon that may or may not exist. If people continue to eat meat then they are just feeding the corporate machine which will kill us all. Vegetarianism is the way forward and you just can't beat a good nut and tofu steak as its one of the most masculine foods.

At the same time defecating into a bucket and sniffing it also helps increase testosterone levels.

Peter are you from America by any chance?

Australia / Can My Polish girlfriend get a working visa in Australia?? [28]

Can he not apply for a working holiday visa?

Also if you're coming over here try and get an E457 visa and your B/F could be the defacto partner.

What line of work is he in? If he's on the trade shortage list then most prospective employers will sponsor.

Life / 55 minutes to write a ticket ("mandat karny")? [28]

They should give you the chance to send payment if you have a licence from another EU country, Also regarding swapping your licence for a Polish one, Good luck with that as they'll make it impossible, I drove on my uk licence for 3 years.

It could also be dependent on your visa, I know that here as i'm on a 4 year temporary stay visa i'm not eligible for an Aussie licence and just have to drive on my UK one.

Life / 55 minutes to write a ticket ("mandat karny")? [28]

Whenever I got stopped for speeding a bank note of around 100 pln or just refusing to speak English usually got them on their way again.

Mikey its speeding, Its hardly a serious offence, I'm sure if you pass your test you'll do it.

Its a bastard now i live in an English speaking country (Australia) as the police actually do speak a strange b astardised version of English and will do you for 1 kph over.

Law / Retirees immigration regulations in Poland [34]

I honestly couldn't think of a worse way to spend the golden years of your life than in Poland knowing that you will most probably die in Poland would be such a depressing thought.

Australia / How to import my car to Australia from Poland? [26]

Thats probably worth importing though but you must have owned it for 12 months prior to importing, Post on pomsinoz.com mate as theres really loads of people who have experience of doing this.

If you find a solution let me know as I really want to do the same, BTW don't get the new shape 7 series they are hideous compared to the sleek and stylish e38's.

Australia / How to import my car to Australia from Poland? [26]

I looked at doing this as i'm moving to Sydney in 2 weeks but it seems too much of a ballache for it to be worthwhille, The import duty is crazy over there as is the registration process.

If you go down the carnet du passage route the car has to leave Australia before the Carnet expires and you can't register it in Aus.

The best place to ask would be pomsinoz.com as theres quite a few knowledgable people on there who've actually done this.

I think the general concensus is that unless the car really is something special theres no point in exporting it.

Also if you decide to import it to Aus permanently you MUST have owned the car for more than 12 months otherwise its seen as a commercial import and the GST is much higher.

Unless the car is something like a BMW, Mercedes, Audi or a Japanese model the chances are it won't be able to reach Aussie compliance without loads of work and if its French just forget it.

Life / Car test..The Polish equivalent of the MOT [36]

Apparently as long as it has a valid MOT (safety check) from an EU member state the polish registration organisation has to by law honour it so no retesting.

It is worth bearing in mind that Poland is only in the EU when it suits them (ie recieving handouts) so they might try to make things difficult for you.

Off-Topic / I need Polish nationals. Who wants to be a millionaire? [54]

This sort of thing would go down a storm in the medical field but I suspect the likes of Emis and System one are eying up Poland as one of their next markets. I've had doctors go to the UK and be astonished by the level of computerisation in General practice and most seem to think its a great idea.

Life / Living Costs and life in Poznan? [70]

Yes you could get cheaper places but if you're a foriegner living in Poland you might as well get the best you can afford. You can get a house somewhere in the city for that but the chances are it'll be a commute from the centre or in a **** area. Personally city park is the place I would choose if i was staying here. we pay 1800 a month for a place in the suburbs that doesn't even have a pool.

Life / Living Costs and life in Poznan? [70]

1) A decent flat in the current climate will cost around 2000 pln and about 300 pln per month for bills. Avoid Wilda, Jezyce and Lazarz as they are pretty rough. If your budget can stretch to it look at "City Park" on Wyspianskiego street, Its awesome and the flats are becoming reasonably priced now. 2700 pln gets you a 1 bedder with access to the on site swimming pool, gym and sauna. Also its a 3 min tram ride from the centre.

dom.gratka.pl/tresc/401-24727449-wielkopolskie-poznan-grunwald-city-park-okolice.html

2) Budget 300 pln per month for utilities and internet although some flats include this,

3) A good meal out will be about 70 pln per head, There are cheaper places but the price reflects the quality. We spend about 150 pln per week on shopping between 2 of us but we do eat a lot of meat, beef etc.

4) Average salary here is ****. I'm not sure what an IT manager will get as i've never worked for a Polish company. I'm guessing you want to aim for 10,000 pln per month.

5) You'll be fine, I've intentionally refused to speak Polish and i've found that anyone worth speaking to can speak English.

Finally when you get here be on your guard for people trying to rip you off. Polish people are generally very un trustworthy and you can find yourself paying double for things as they assume that as you speak english you must be wealthy. This is very common so be on your guard and when getting in a taxi always agree a price first.

Hope this helps.

UK, Ireland / driving in england on a Polish license [10]

I would definately give tesco a try and also CIS,

Adrian flux were always good for modified, imported, and track vehicles.

Owning a vehicle is easy, much more straightforward than the ridiculous system in Poland, As for insurance the Polish system is much better. Make sure that she realises that she has to be named on a policy to be covered, I've known a few Polish people get pulled up for it as in Poland the car is insured for any driver but in the UK it is car + designated driver.

Life / Some Poles have fine houses [68]

Didn't you buy a f*cking massive palace WB? Thats awesome :)

I find most houses in Poland are just badly layed out. Also the concept of having a living room (one that you don't sleep in) and a dining room are almost unheard of. and what is it with Polish kitchens? they seem to comprise of random bits of furniture which has been rescued from skips.

I have been in some truly awesome flats in the old inner city building of Poznan, If only people looked after them they would actually be amazing.

Mine isnt the most frugal of things either, Budget for about 200 GBP and you won't go far wrong.

UK, Ireland / Polish workers humiliated at the Laurens Patisseries - protest [45]

Race hate against Poland by English factory?

A British cream cake company has been accused of a race-hate crime after it refused to halt its production line to mark the death of Poland's president.

Management at Laurens Patisserie, which supplies eclairs for Tesco and Sainsbury's, was forced to back down after Polish workers at the plant, who make up 70 per cent of the 1,600-strong workforce, tried to stage an impromptu shutdown.
