News / Decent left wing analysis of the left in Poland [10]

i think you missed my winking smiley, besides if someone is here on a student visa then they have satisfied the entry recquirements of polish goverment, are paying money to study in poland, and economically should be taxed the same as polish citizens. besides if what delph says is true, then they are legit employed and not working in the black economy.

Before I contribute on topic, I need to know if "decent" applies to left wing or to analysis coz it is ambiguous.

Both :)

News / Decent left wing analysis of the left in Poland [10]

afaik i know they have, or they have elimated the introduction of new trash contracts. please point me to a polish source that proves your point. By eliminating income tax or under 26 year olds they have improved the financial condition on those people on?/formerly on trash contracts.

News / Decent left wing analysis of the left in Poland [10]

From the Soros Open democracy conglomerate, ocaisonally they have thoughtfull articles and this one provides 3/4 competent research and conclusions, through some of their lunacy hilariously comes out "PiS ideas for redistribution revoltingly oriented towards the "traditional family" model" LOL

Loved their takedown of PO and SLD though !
"PO's big words infuriated people at whose expenses the "success" was achieved: workers pushed to trash contracts with no minimum wages, no health insurance, sick leaves, holidays or prospects for a pension. "

opendemocracy.net/en/can-europe-make-it/whats-left-in-poland-can-the-three-tenors-led-by-adrian-zandberg-take-on-polands-duopoly/

Will zanderberg once again be charming and on point during the debates? Why did razem and wiosna lie down with the SLD scum? will the left enjoy a lazarus resurection in poland from the working class who get sick of PiS? will the polish youths once again be singing the internationale at independence day?

"ive done acid , i've done a lot of halucinegens" yes those drugs can make one very anti social and anxious.
"my culture is drum and base and jungle, but my culture is dying young kids are not into it" It's now called Dubstep idiod. This guy needs to stop over analysing, join a gym or start a hobby. go to some meetup groups and stop navel gazing and poor me.

History / Your favourite Polish Patriotic films [49]

Ryszard Bugajski died on the 7th of June. For me he was second to Wajda as a director in being able to illustrate the history of our nation .Every film he made was important to polish culture.

Przesłuhanie/Interogation was a film about UB imprisoning and torturing an actress in stalinist poland. It was banned and ordered destroyed in 1982 and the director managed to make a vhs copy which was then shown in the solidarity community. In 89 the film could finally be screened legaly and won awards at Cannes.

General Nil told the story of how the communists chased down and executed the General in post war poland
Układ zamknięty/The Closed Circuit. was set in poland in the late 1990s, based on a true story it demonstrated how post communist apparatchiks stole the wealth of businesses through brutal methods. Denied funding during PO's reign, the director sought funding from business organisations who understood the pathology of Poland in 2013.

I have not seen Zaćma/Blindess yet but it is about but it about life of a stalinist criminal in poland meeting the cardinal.

Below are the links to his films (adblocker recomended of course)

Konfederacja.. Bunch of skinheads dressed in ties. How do you take them seriously? Jews vote for Netanyahu and they are a natural Pis base. we need to cultivate them. and we need to israel on side if we are going to win the battle.

Life / Slogans and designs on Polish T-shirts also represent culture of Poland [25]

They should wear nit uniforms.

No. School uniforms are an anglo saxon pathology. students should have individual freedom. Of course problems will arise between socioeconomic classes. rich girls wearing stuff etc, but that is the price we have to pay.

Poland in foreign media and blogs thread

Thought I would start a thread with thought provoking perspectives from the world media and think tanks. I found this article by Dov S. Zakheim, quite balanced and educational, from a conservative american jewish perspective. Quite like how he details historical facts detailing that the history of jews in Poland is neither black and white, but like humanity and multitude of greys, shamefull and heroic acts. Both sides have grieviences but for the sake of the future and our common bond we must look to the future. It made a change from the polarising commentry in haeretz and jerusalem post. regarding this issue.

Life / Worst aspects of living in Poland? [82]

- The aftermath of war, Warsaw and many other cities are standing on a masacre site, with the energy of millions of murdered people in the ground, If one is attuned to energy , there is a paltable tension on the street of warsaw. laugh if you want but it's true.

- the aftermath of communism, Poland is not like a western country it has its own values and ways of doing things. I found it difficult to make friends as people were generally suspiscious of a stranger being friendly, (of course i was travelling solo and not relying on family or job etc to establish commonality with people. Vodka helps of course.

- Because getting rich is new , materialism is the new religion and the first thing you are judged on. Poles were happy that the opera/concert hall in Poland was covered in advertising as this was a sign of progress. People were tripping out that I had dreadlocks, wore alternative clothes, yet was staying at the sobieski for months, they thought i was the son of an oligarch and all these business people in ties were giving me their business cards, but still suspicious of course.

-If you speak Polish with an accent, you will always be a foreigner to people, even if you were born there.
- Lack of a proper social welfare system , leading to crime, scams people freezing in the street.
- the stigmatisation and general unsympathy to mental health and alcoholism/drug addiction.
- the extreme culture wars far beyond anything i've seen before, half the political class thinks the other half murdered their leaders at smolensk. The other half regard their opponents as totalitarian fascists. Only ukraine is worse.

- Extreme poverty in the counryside leading to women coming to the big cities to become prostitutes or parents leaving the country and their kids stay behind looked after by babcia.

- General business ineficiency and lack of logic - I mean why is there Peron and Tor? Can't we just have one number for a platform like in normal countries?! Metro construction most expensive in europe due to corruption. stage 2 3km? wat a joke

- The former SB/UB higher ups and their children who are now men of capitalism, have no regard to the rule of law and control large sections of the economy.

- The skinheads and hooligans who will bash you as a pedał for giving them a hug.
- The expats who married a polish hottie but hate poland and resentfull about being ordered around by their wife and her family.
Rant over :)

Law / Identity Theft Laws and Situation in Poland? [9]

Yes. This can still happen. It happened to a family member of someone I know. That was about 5 years ago.

So he/she had to pay it back, no identity stolen defense? thats horrible. oh man now i will have trepidation when i fly back to poland who knows maybe the mafia is using my identity and i am well known in the underworld... :(

But you can pay a small fee and get your credit checked.

If i'm liable for the loan maybe its not worth knowing! Can they put you in jail in Poland for not paying back credit?

Law / Identity Theft Laws and Situation in Poland? [9]

Hello old timers, been a while. glad to see the debate hamster-wheel is still going on :)

So last time I was in Poland (2012) had my dowod osobisty (no meldunek) birth certificate and citizenship certificate stolen when i was drunk on Marszałkowska. I remember hearing at the time that the identify theft laws were pretty anti consumer in Poland, and that if someone stole your identity and got a loan etc you were liable.

Plus also all those horror stories of the homeless being used as słups to be directors of dodgy businesses in the 90s. Is this still the the case or has Poland adopted EU regulations? What would be the organsiations to contact to find out if my identity is being misused? cheers and regards.

History / Communism, was it the best form of government Poland ever had? [68]

sure here is jon's quote

Nor can you routinely dismiss everything that existed or was created during the PRL as 'commie'. A system, by the way, which did more for Poland than any previous government they'd had. Totalitarianism was simply a fact of life, as it is in so many places now.

As you can see he is a closet communist who excuses oppresion and totalitarianism. He ignores the first modern democracy in europe in 15th to 17th century as well as the 2nd republic.

History / Communism, was it the best form of government Poland ever had? [68]

jon said a murderous communist regime which killed more than 50 thousand people in poland 'was the best form of goverment poland has ever had'. This is like saying the nazi goverment was the best form of goverment germany had.

News / News from the Poland's media front - Drop in sales for Uważam Rze. [15]

well jon any weekly that has been operating since 1957 and whose editors enthusasticaly worked for the former communist regime would be somewhat tainted don't you think. One its long time editors became the last communist prime minister of poland. It has been alledged that they chose not to publish coruption details of Rywin affair. Of course i do not deny that it has a wide ranging and inteligent set of contributers.

The staff left, by the way, when that dreadful guy was fired - basically they all threw a hissy fit.

If ALL your journalists leave then that means one is not managing the business properly.
Polityka? You are joking right, the communist mouthpiece since 1956?

News / News from the Poland's media front - Drop in sales for Uważam Rze. [15]

If your grasp of polish was better, you would know that all the journalists who worked on Uważam Rze left after the new owner started intefering with the editorial line. Readership numbers collapsed and Uwazam Rze is regarded as having been taken over and no longer representing the right. In 2013 people who want to read proper investigative journalism from masters of their field like Witold Gatowski as well as traditonal right viewpoints ; read Do Rzeczy and W Sieci. Thank you for your attention.

History / Documentary about Transformation in Poland since 1989 [3]

Found this great documentary series examining the transformation since communism from a sociological perspective. Was produced in 2009 for the 20th anniversary.

The first episode looks at the round table process. The second episode examines privatization and the role of corporations in Poland.
Apparently after the first episode, political pressure led to further episodes disappearing from TVP2 schedule only to be shown months later. . Highly recommended.
Needs Silverlight plugin.
