Travel / Polski Bus experiences in Poland? [17]

[Moved from]: Does Polski Bus make stops on the way to Warsaw, or is it a direct route to the capital?

If you take Polski Bus from A to Warsaw, will it stop somewhere before the final destination in Warsaw if you ask them, or it only stops once at the the final destination?

Off-Topic / PF - The Omnibus Edition [1502]

Ditto. Is Delph banned or did he become a mod?
Sorry for my bluntness, I don't feel like ready doing the research on the forum. I'm some year and a half behind on current events in this place.

Love / Fresh, wholesome country lass in Poland - getting married and going back to the US [167]

my elderly father, who travels to Poland often, and is active in variety of Pol/Am organizations, shows around pictures of his lavish East Coast estate and reels in lovely Polish ladies, who dream of an escape to easy life in the USofA.

He's currently looking for his 6th Mrs. Ex, and I have no doubt he'll find her.

I'm surprised he still owns his lavish estate after 5 divorces. Did all the exes sign a prenup? Or are the pictures his but the estate belongs to somebody else? That could explain the reason for such frequent divorces.

I agree there's a good chance a 50-year-old Polonian bachelor would quite likely attract golddiggers.

lol, golddiggers. With 50 000 a year? That's hardly enough for 2 people to get by.

Why would a young self-respecting woman be interested some looser grandfather with unrealistic expectations?

They might discover that they like different things sexually or were otherwise incompatible.

A guy who want a a woman to be virgin does not grasp the idea that women have sexual needs themselves. For him a woman is a possession acquired in order to cook for him, clean his house and take care of his dick.

News / Barbara Piasecka Johnson, Maid Who Married Multimillionaire, Dies at 76 [57]

I I "love" the story as well and am happy for her and her husband too.

I've heard from a Polish lady who used to work as her cook that she was pretty abusive towards old Johnson. She was a typical gold digger and I don't know what the fuss was all about.

Life / Favourite Polish movies? [107]

"Dom Zły"

It's so sticky and dirty that a shower is needed after finishing the whole experience. Not a fun movie to watch but worthwhile.

News / Wisława Szymborska died. [30]

Barańczak and Cavenagh again?

yes

Gains a lot too, in other moments.

Maybe the translation has to grow on me. I've never read the poem in English until today. The Polish feels much smoother to me.

News / Wisława Szymborska died. [30]

They are awarded subjectivly and in many cases the decisions were highly criticized...

The decisions are usually criticized by the one who were hoping to get it, but didn't :)

There is usually more critics though if a woman gets the award, than when a man gets it. And the good old parity discussion kicks in, for example that Szymborska got the award because she was a woman, and her being from Eastern Europe was a plus, Toni Morrison, because is a woman and black, etc...

Here is my favorite poem. I find it looses a lot in the English translation.

Cebula
Co innego cebula.
Ona nie ma wnętrzności.
Jest sobą na wskroś cebula,
do stopnia cebuliczności.
Cebulasta na zewnątrz,
cebulowa do rdzenia,
mogłaby wejrzeć w siebie
cebula bez przerażenia.

Love / Unmarried couples in Poland = pathology [310]

Putting an external pressure on that relationship, some sort of artificial bind or contract to trap two people together is both unfeasible and unfair. It may have been "morally noble" in the dark ages when women were denied all the other basic human rights and had to look to their man for support, but not any more.

The contract is not to bind the people together these days. It's to ensure that the laws will protect them / apply to them when they split and start dividing the assets.

USA, Canada / Moved back from Canada to Poland:). Here are the reasons why. [868]

I'm fine with unpredictable and violent. It's the low temperatures for an extended amount of time I can't deal with. For example it's very cold here today and tomorrow, but the forecast says 12 C for Saturday. I hate winter in NJ as well, but it's easier to get through.

USA, Canada / Looking for a Polish language school in South Jersey, USA [7]

I know there are at least 2 schools in Trenton. One is at the Saint Hedwick's Church, the other one is at the Saint Cross church. They are for kids though, I don't know of any for grown ups. I personally know one of the teachers from Saint Cross Church school. If your sister is interested I could put her in touch with her.

Love / I have a crush on a Polish boy ~ [15]

Never ask a boy out on a date, wait for them to ask you. Patience is a virtue.

Very good advice. Better yet, wait until you are 18 and graduate high school. Boys are nothing but trouble. Didn't your daddy tell you that?

Love / Do polish men like career women? [60]

Who told you that I am looking for a boyfriend , are you listening to that Harry , who can`t himself make a decision about his gender identity ?

lol, where did I mention you are looking for a boyfriend? What I meant is that you as a very insubmissive woman might have (or had have) hard time finding a boyfriend in Poland. And contrary to you I don't have an obsession with Harry.

I think you should stop commenting on this topic before you dish out all your insecurities. Just indulge in your happy personal life and all the best to you.

Hahaha, everything you have just written is nothing but a crap.

Ha ha, I'm sure out of all people on this forum you have the hardest time finding a boyfriend in Poland, and I'm half positive if you are with someone now he is not Polish.

Po polsku / Niedouk czy co? [68]

Polskie kosmetyki chociażby - Eris, Ziaja, Bielenda? Kupuję je przez internet z polskiego sklepu w UK! Albo niektóre marki spożywcze, nawet regionalne? Mleczarnie i zakłady mięsne?

Love / Do polish men like career women? [60]

y, it is a breach of logic. Having had overbearing mommies, men can`t like submissive women.

Not really. Like I said, mothers in macho and borderline macho cultures make their sons believe they are something extraordinary. On the other hand the boys growing up realize deep down in their hearts that they are just average, but they feel like they need to keep up the myth that their mothers started, so they go for seemingly soft and helpless creatures who will make them feel superior.

This works really well in Polish and other cultures where a female's social status swells at the moment she says "yes" at the altar. In order to get that husband they are trained to be nice and sweet, but in most cases it's not their real nature. So once the mission is accomplished and a girl gets to show her true nature, like for example liking to be in charge and dominate, or just being a shrew, a man is disappointed. Remember the old saying: "on their wedding day the wife hopes her spouse will change but he usually doesn't, and the husband wishes she wouldn't change, but she usually does"?

Love / Do polish men like career women? [60]

Polish men like submissive women. They have a hard time with partnership, which is probably the result of growing up with overbearing "mamusias", who instill in them the conviction that they are some divine creatures and they deserve the best, while girls are taught from an early age that they are on the mission to find a husband. So girls are trained to be feminine, smile all the time and be nice. That's probably why so few Polish men date western women, as they are too strong minded and independent for them.
