Polonia / Poland and France cultures are similar [112]

Is Poland doing something to promote its popularity in France considering many Poles and their descendants helped form the modern French state?

well, apart from the ones that were deported to Auschwitz, that is.
That is what happened to many Polish and others who had moved to France, thinking it was a civilized place.

Mind you i suppose it could have happened anywhere...

Yes i love the way France has 'stolen' Maria Sklodowska by trying to turn her into some kind of 'add-on' to Pierre Curie, when in fact he was her assistant.

Ditto with Chopin.

i dont see anything about France and Poland to compare. France owned a large chunk of the world and told the people there that their ancestors were 'Gauls' - Poland never had any colonies. (sorry, have been reading Ryszard Kapuscinski)

French are mostly mixed race, Polish are not.

France has carried out savage colonial wars, Poland obviously has not.

French people don't wash, and Polish do.

Need i go on?

Life / Why are Poles in other countries called "Plastic Poles"? [168]

It seem to be a purely American (Aglo-Saxon) "invention"

yeh it's a Brit invention coined to describe the kind of Irish people that were born in the UK, but ham up the Irishness. ( as 'Plastic Paddy')

Could they be perhaps.... Plastic bulgarians and plastic Romanians?

:D :D perhaps they are...lol

some things are grossly exaggerated by the press though, Dirk, you must know that.

Dont mention the BBC licence though , I may start foaming at the mouth"!

USA has its own problems of a slightly different nature. As i said, the reason why 1 in 5 Muslims (might be) Muslim, is the same reason that you are speaking English to me now <shrugs> - not a silly comment at all but rather germane to this thread.

Read a little history.

Joker, the USA is a histhole and so is the UK. Let's not make it into a 'which country is histier' competition. Btw i am not and have never been an 'expat'. I wouldnt use that word anyway for old Brit men who married Polish women and got stuck there, it's far too glamourous.

As i have pointed out before, the UK 'Muslim problem' comes from the same reason that you speak English. Get over it.,

yet those non Poles are still exponentially more Polish than the british isle posters

what does that even mean? how can someone be 'exponentially' more one nationality than another? You make no sense.
The vast majority of 'Pol-Ams' maybe had a Polish grandad, tops. Obviously you are different.
Where was your granny from JOker? probably the southern states via the middle passage.
By the way Dirk, i dont disagree with everything you say, on principle. Uk is a **** hole, I know that. ONe of the main problems now is that there arent enough jobs. If only the Bulgarians, Roumanians and so on would eff off home. The Poles are OK .

they're not Poles, they're mixed heritage Americans. Sorry.

and as for " They have no reason to now that Poland has a great economy and wages are much higher " - what does that even mean? If Poland had a 'great economy' then half the population wouldnt have left, like rats from a sinking ship, would they? no.

i mean, just because someone has a name ending in -ski, doesn't mean his granny wasn't a Cherokee, AFrican American, Pakistani, or Italian...

it would be almost amusing if it wasn't so sad.

it's like me claiming to be Irish because we had some Irish relatives who would come for high tea from time to time. You know, drop scones, jam, pot of tea, ham and egg salad, fruit cake.

Then going on a forum and lying about who i am in a confused manner...

..and then going on an Irish forum and giving it large about the evils of immigration to/from Ireland.
Do you see how silly that would be?

UK, Ireland / Why English do not like Polish? [417]

true some yanks also went over the top

and still do. They can give it out , but not take it., it seems. Esp the 'alt-right' pussies.

I did hear on this very forum that Harry had passed away. He was no spring chicken I suppose.

Incidentally I do wish Yanks would stop referring to us British people as 'English', and to the UK as 'England'.

It is such an insult to the Welsh, Scottish and Irish British people. I have tried to explain before, about the concept of 'nation-state' etc., (first year undergrad Interpol) but they don't seem to be able to get it.

I mean, take the title of this thread as a perfect example.
What about Welsh , Scottish and N. Irish people?

Study / Studies in Opole University; lack of money, cheap renting, any job available? [8]

as if I would be Western European.

you haven't even applied yet - yet you are already whining about western Europeans having more than you do. Apply in your own country, as Pawian said, you don't have the initiative for this.

If you really think you are up for it, apply first and get your place, before worrying about accommodation and jobs and rich western Euro students.

History / Study Shows Irish Voters Rejected the Nice Treaty Referendum Due to Poland's Entry Into the EU [80]

the Irish demonstrated consistently that were neutral and detached from the plight of Poles and Poland

could you define 'the Irish'?

I mean are you talking about the government or the people? which people? which government? just saying 'the Irish' in sweeping statements is v simplistic, don't u think? if I had said something as sloppy as that in 'O' level history class my teacher would have pulled me up. O level is the exam you do (did) when you are 16.

History / Study Shows Irish Voters Rejected the Nice Treaty Referendum Due to Poland's Entry Into the EU [80]

British attempts at conscripting the Irish during the war was met with so much fierce resistance that the British abandoned the plan.

i wish you would get your facts straight before typing rubbish. Irish people volunteered, in both world wars, to help fight fascism in Europe.
And talking of medals, Atch, I do believe the VC was mostly awarded to Irish people. Need to check that though..

here you go shI.T.tie, educate yourself a little. I know it's only wiki, but that is about your level.

UK, Ireland / No Poles Allowed! - Latest Polonophobic Outrage Out of Britain [660]

Kasha is a drama queen.

Anyway Crow, why are you so anti - Brit? are you jealous because the UK is a country where four nationalities live and mix, with a large immigrant population, and manage to do so without slaughtering their neighbours?

Law / UK Citizen - Detox Centre Fine from Poland [26]

you made an assumption about the type of man I married.

no i didn't make any assumptions. You married a man who cant handle his drink and goes mad at the sniff of cheap beer. You cannot argue with that, you said it yourself.
