Life / Anti establishment Polish artist Pawel Kuczynski [20]

Humanity in reverse...or the older you become the more backward your thoughts.

Or, could be contemplation of a life lived. It is often said that one can re-live key moments in life on ones death bed.

Or, could be the gradual slide into feebleness of the mind, less sharp as time goes by to the point where one is back to where they were when they were young / in diapers....

I think its symbolising mans ludicrous growth consumption,

This is an example of how your perspective helps frame what you interpret in the environment around you.

From my perspective, it could be one of the following:

a) a commentary on poverty in general forcing people to sacrifice their long term opportunities to get by day to day, or,
b) the guy got to "the top of the ladder" and didn't like what he saw (grass really wasn't greener?) and stayed with what he knew.

c)....?
Much like beauty being in the eye of the beholder, art is subjective to those beholding it.

Maybe so but IMO, the way we are being led to vote / act / behave as per the master's directive. Note the sheep dog there to keep any wayward sheep directed back to the pack.

Travel / Where can I buy alcohol in Poland as a 16 yr old? (is it legal?) [14]

Have teenagers today not heard the words 'novelty ID card'?

True.

Stick around. Sooner or later there will be a thread created about fake ID. Send some Euro's over and Bob's your uncle.

edit:

my 15 year old has a little industry going at college making them

Maybe he / she should post a thread!

Food / Where can I buy Swedka Swedish vodka in Warsaw? [12]

Why the cheap shot at the Russians?

Not a cheap shot. Just my endorsement of a personal political / moral statement regarding the situation in Ukraine. We are all entitled to our opinions.

I do enjoy Sobieski, Belvedere and Pan Tadeusz, although for general consumption, Sobieski is the best value for a dollar in my opinion.

I never enjoyed Grey Goose, poor flavour and high price.

The more times it has been distilled, the less flavour and character it has and thus the more chance there is for the distiller to hide sub-par ingredients or manufacturing.

Life / Jack Strong ( Film about Colonel Ryszard Kuklinski ) [48]

Interesting that almost all of his fellow officers managed not to betray their country.

And anybody with a "Western Bent" perspective would call him a courageous, true Polish patriot.

News / Is this the first clear and open signal that Poland makes preparations for war with Russia? [163]

I do have a problem with political parties that are neo nazi especially when they have gathered some power.

Agreed. But IMO, I think that the average Kiev Resident (not the raving neo-nazi types, anarchists, and other fringe types) truly wanted to peacefully protest the actions of the Government Du Jour. After Yanukovich murdered protestors and subsequently fled, it was the squeaky wheels (fringe types) that got the majority of the grease (power). It is sad to see the extremes getting so much power. Unfortunately, I think that the average Kievian is going to get the shaft in this mess.... Typically, the moderates aren't loud enough to sieze the reins of power in a vacuum like this.

Quite simple really.

Looks like Poland is feeling a little threatened. They have aske NATO to have a meeting under Article 4.

The North Atlantic Council, which includes the ambassadors of all 28 NATO Allies, will meet on Tuesday 4 March, following a request by Poland under article 4 of NATO's founding Washington Treaty.

Under article 4 of the Treaty, any Ally can request consultations whenever, in the opinion of any of them, their territorial integrity, political independence or security is threatened.

The developments in and around Ukraine are seen to constitute a threat to neighboring Allied countries and having direct and serious implications for the security and stability of the Euro-Atlantic area.

he was democratically elected and removed in a coup

According to the Ukrainian Envoy to the UN:

"You call it a coup, in the democratic world we call it a revolution of dignity," referring to the unrest in Ukraine that led to President Viktor Yanukovych being forced from power.

Well the good news is that he seems to be coming around...

But, after 18 hours of surgery and more than a week unconscious in hospital, Mr Johnson regained consciousness and has been in contact with family at home

Life / Agnieszka holland compares life in Poland to 'sniffing farts': [97]

A national disgrace

Depends on your perspective. Decades ago, it was prophesised that in the future we would all work less and have an abundance of leisure time. Maybe Poland is the enlightened one??

Technically, only the UK has more Paid Entitlement Days than Poland
mercer.com/press-releases/holiday-entitlements-around-the-world

But if you read the fine print UK employers get around this by making several paid entitlement holidays deductible from other vacation days....

Maybe it is a little over the top in PL....

Why offensive? Ask around. Millions of Poles feel the same as I do about 3 Kings. It's an neo-con-inspired waste of our time and right to carry out our business

And it would seem that millions of Poles agree with it.

Epiphany was the only religious public holiday that had not been restored since Poland regained its independence in 1991, and had been the source of many petitions to have the public holiday restored (19-Apr-2009, 27-Jun-2008, 22-Sep-2008, and 17-Oct-2008).

It seems that the people have spoken. In time, it may of course be challenged.

USA, Canada / Why do Americans (and Canadians) hate Polish people? [226]

As a Canadian guy married to a Polish gal I can honestly say I don't dislike the majority of Poles. Met a few that left a lot to be desired, but the majority seem to be ok to me.
