UK, Ireland / Do people in Poland live "better" than here in the UK? [150]

however there's a lot more wildlife than you think.

Wildlife I spotted in the English woodlands:
- pigeons (a lot of pigeons) , some magpies, rooks and robins (well...not exactly wildlife)

four legged creatures are represented by
- rabbits, foxes and moles

And that's ALL

From my point of view - English forest is quite dead. There are no wolves, wild-boars, bears.
No roe deers, or even beavers.

UK, Ireland / Do people in Poland live "better" than here in the UK? [150]

Oh c'mon people!
Why can't we stay on topic? Winter in Poland is harsher than winter in England. That is a known fact.
Can we just agree to the facts and get over it?

I think that the guy who started this thread had made some bloody good points that may lead to some good, fine-quality brawl, ok?
I don't think he is right in all the things he wrote. But what he wrote is much more interesting than discussion on the subject:

"Who and why would find his balls suddenly frozen and falling off?" Poland is a winner here, hmmmmm ok? Our Polish balls fell off easily because minus twenty centigrades for a few months, ok? Did you ever experienced minus twenty? Did you? Then imagine -35°C. That's Poland for you.

Just read the entry on the top of this thread.
This is much more interesting that this icy subject.

UK, Ireland / Do people in Poland live "better" than here in the UK? [150]

Unfortunately, that is not true. Young people do die in British winters, often late at night walking home in freezing conditions.

Yep. If one try hard enough it is completely possible to die from hypothermia even in a relatively warm weather. All it takes is to get really drunk, wear wrong kind of clothes and then to fall asleep on the bench or pavement. Some drugs may also be useful.

In Poland one can get frostbite when completely sober. That is difference between UK's -5°C and Poland's -20°C :)

UK, Ireland / Do people in Poland live "better" than here in the UK? [150]

Apple and oranges...

ok, bear with me on this one..........

Evidence for a better life in Poland:-

1/ Better weather

As a Polish living in the UK - I miss a real winter. On the other hand - I am very happy that it is impossible to freeze my ass here.

2/ More emphasis on good food

Really? British love to talk about food, talk about food. The bookshops is full of cooking books. TV - don't get me started. I can not imagine any more emphasis to be put on the subject of good food. British are food-crazy!

3/ Diverse and rich natural scenery in Poland

Also diverse and rich scenery in the UK. Scenery full of history. But to see it - You would have to leave your London suburb and open you eyes.

4/ A more comprehensive tourism infrastructure

I beg to differ.

5/ More culturally engaged than in the UK i.e. free city centre concerts, kaberets etc

Take London for example: dozens of museums, galleries, concert halls. Hundreds of theatres. Vibrant stand-up comedy circles. But if your idea of "culture" is sipping beer during open-air pop concert - then you are right.

Of course, wages are higher in the UK but at what cost ?

At a very affordable cost.

This comparison is really silly and close-minded. If you take Poland as a "gold standard" of life quality, then you are right - every other country less Polish than Poland... I see that in your mind "less Polish" equals to "worse".

History / Alexander the Great - Macedonski. Poland connection? [254]

If we are right Historically, as you state... then the peoples of FYRoM cannot claim

They can claim whatever they want and they can call their country as they wish.
This is their sovereign country, this is their land and they have every right to do whatever they want.

If they decide to call their country i.e. "Poland" or "USA" - who can stop them? Nobody.

History / Alexander the Great - Macedonski. Poland connection? [254]

Oh come on. Historically you are right.
But on the other hand - they have got every right to name their country as they want it.
They can even drop the name of Macedonia and decide to name themselves as
"The Greeks-Are-Bloody-Pussies Republic".

News / Don't let Poland become like my country, France. [630]

Strong culture will survive. The weak one will fade away.
Simple as that.
Survival of the fittest.

At this moment - it seems that European culture is not on the winning side.

Love / Filipino guy with a Polish girl.. [60]

Here in the US, there are many white guys dating Asian women. It's not as common for Asian men to date white women

I think it is a final proof that size matters. Obviously - Asian women like European size. And White women are unimpressed with Asin tiny dingy-wyngy.

News / Don't let Poland become like my country, France. [630]

Well I don't know...
I think I am colour-blind. I am not interested if my neighbour is black, white or green.
I lived for a few years in London in a place known as "little Pakistan" (E17). In a rented room in a shared house.

All my neighbours were Muslims. And you know what? I don't really see any difference.
Some people are good, some bad. Some are jerks and some angel-like.

I really don't think that hallal takeaway would spoil my own oh-so-white culture.

Life / Are there any Muslim areas in Poland? [173]

Poor Mahamat. You obviously choose the very wrong country to settle.
Poland is vodka-land. Finding alcohol free zones in Poland is impossible.
You would easier find an Iceberg in Algeria or nice sandy beach on Greenland.

There are some Tatar muslim communities living around Białystok. But they are Polish too.

History / Alexander the Great - Macedonski. Poland connection? [254]

Polish guy here.
For what I remember from school - Alexander was described as "Great" or "Macedonian".
And Macedonia was described as a part of the Hellada. Or Greek if you like it more.

Alexander was Greek to the core of his bones. Born in Pella. He conquered non-Greek barbarians and spread Greek culture.
I am sure that he definitely wasn't half-Bulgar, half-Albanian. :D

Love / I have a crush on my boyfriend's Polish friend ( advice needed ) [33]

Most Polish guys I know, believe in the "bros before hoes" principle.
In other words - You just don't screw your friend's wife or girlfriend.

Other thing - there is a fat chance that your "Polish love" is a Roman Catholic.
Taking father away from children, being a "family crusher" is not something that would be treated lightly by the priest-confessor.

In my opinion you stand no chance.

You are ready to deprive your children of their father. You are prepared to spoil the years of friendship between your bf and this Polish guy.

You are ready to ruin everything and for what? For a guy that can not even speak to you.
Madness.

Love / Why should I support my partners sister and boyfriend? [23]

1) Ask them for a favour. Then the next one. Ask them for a favour at least twice every day.
They would move out from you home faster than you manage to say "Could you please lend me a hundred quid?"
2) Make sure that the child is really yours.

People from "from a small village near Warsaw" - that say it all. They are famous for being very resourceful people. And you are their source.

Sorry.

History / Communism, was it the best form of government Poland ever had? [68]

I was born in the middle of '70 in Poland. I still remember when I saw first homeless person.

It was around 1992 - after the socialist regime collapsed. It was quite a shock for me. I asked myself "How this is possible?". How is it possible that someone has no roof over his head? And no job, no income? Why his potential is wasted?

In PRL (People's Republic of Poland) this was quite unthinkable. Everyone worked. In fact "avoiding the duty of work" was a criminal offence. Eight hours of work, free education and healtcare, paid holiday twice a year and a place in the block of flats - that was a standard.

It was guaranteed. Modest life. Sure - not eveyone did own a car or colour TV set then. Most people lived in a rather poor standards. No luxury.

But no one I MEAN NO ONE lacks food, health care, shelter, education for his children or himself. Never. There was no starving, homeless people in the PRL.

And then I saw him - a man digging in a rubbish bin in search for food.
I realised that our old life just ended. And something new has just started.

And now - almost 25 years later - I am still not sure if I am glad of this change.

Love / Birth Certificate Questions (Polish rules require the mother to put down a Polish name?) [27]

Well. There is no legal obligation to put a father's name in the Birth Certificate. I mean - in case when woman is unmarried.

But the informal practice is that the authorities allow mother to put some name in the documents. Even totally unrealeted name. This practice is aim to spare child trauma in later years.

You know - even fictional name entry - let's say "Piotr" - looks much better than "Father unknown", right?

Life / "You are 100 years behind Blacks" - this old Polish saying [29]

Romans were still Black considering their Egyptian origin

Seriously? Do you really believe that Romans are Egyptians? And that the Egyptians were black?
Really? Just look at the map, please.
Just look at it.

Life / "You are 100 years behind Blacks" - this old Polish saying [29]

Seriously, people. Africa is a huge continent. Rich in resources. Spreading through few climate zones.
And according to science - the oldest continent populated by humans.

What is Africa's contributions to our knowledge or technology?
Next to none.
Even people of Greenland invented more. In less time, and on the land almost entirely covered by ice.

There are no ancient ruins on Africa. No signs of black civilisation. No cities, no bridges, no nothing. Even today - people in Africa need our help to dig some wells.

That say it all, really.
