Love / How do I tell her how I feel? Working with a Polish woman. [24]

Don't feel bad, brumdave. She probably knew she was going to leave and that's why she kept her distance. Just tell her you're sorry that she's leaving and that you wish you could have known her better. Ask her if you can call her or write to her when she's gone.

Love / My Girlfriends Decisions! Am I overreacting? British guy with Polish girlfriend. [11]

They drink, fight, and certainly resist arrest. They are just very 'male' - too male. So I don't think he is particularly dangerous - probably not at all - he just gets into fights too easily.

It took 10 policemen to arrest him and they needed to use pepper spray to restrain him. He was ordered not to go near his girlfriend who he had assaulted five times. That's just being very male? Really? Wow. That's surprising.

USA, Canada / Can you BE Polish without SPEAKING Polish in the US? [256]

However they didn't run from their homeland. America is theirs, NOT just the reservations.

What about those that did run from their homeland during the wars? It happened a lot more than you might know. Are they no longer Native Americans because they live a few miles across the border?

I've known Native Americans who went to Europe in the military and they and their children (who are born there) are considered American Indians over there. They all get together in Europe. Try telling them that they're no longer Native Americans and see what happens. haha.

People readily accept that there are genetic ties between certain groups like Native Americans or African Americans or Latin Americans but when it comes to Poland, the idea is rejected.

Hear hear shewolf! One should note that the starter of this thread was convinced by Plastic Pole's answer that yes it is indeed possible to be Polish without speaking Polish:

Oh. I thought he was talking about his wife, that she's the one that believes that way.

She was/is CONVINCED. I mean, the girl was short, had coal black eyes and hair, and her hair was in two short braids. ::Shrugs::

But that would be like admitting that there's such a thing as an ancestry or a race regardless of what language someone speaks. If it's possible for a woman to be Native American whether she speaks a Native language or not and whether she lives on an Indian Reservation or not, then it has to be possible for someone to be Polish or to have Polish ancestry regardless of what they speak or where they live.

I mean, genes do get passed down through the generations. I can sometimes guess where someone's parents or ancestors came from because of the way they look and I'll find that I'm right. It has nothing to do with the language they speak.

It's weird you mention Apaches.

Why would your wife think someone is Native American based on the way he or she looked? It's like saying that you have to speak Polish in order to be Polish but you can be Native American if you just look a certain way. That kind of logic doesn't make sense.

Love / Problem with my Polish boyfriend [74]

we have made plans for next year and they are going to happen.

Then you have nothing to worry about. Why are you worrying? You'll be with him again in February. You have a future together. Right?

Love / Malaysian Girl with Polish Guy... any chance together? [16]

I already prepared a trip to Bali for his birthday. I arranged many things that we can do together for several days. Sunbathing, diving, rafting, spa, cruise, etc. I want to send it today so that he can ask days off from his office early.

You should go for it and have fun. You only live once. If you lose him, so what? You'll survive and you'll find someone else. Don't run away from experiencing happiness just because you might get hurt in the end.

News / Polish Diaspora - many of these 20 million actually speak Polish? [79]

When and where were these "English Only Laws?" For how long were they? How would they have been enforceable within the confines of the home? Would those laws have been in direct conflict with any elements of the American Constitution?

I don't know the history of the English-Only movement but I think it all started in the 1800's. Have you heard of how Native American children were taken from their homes, forced to attend school, and forced to speak English only? They were punished for speaking their languages. It was an order from the government. That's just one example.

Although laws or rules like that can't control what happens in the home, some parents did fail to teach Polish to their children so that they would prosper in America. In some cases, kids didn't want to speak Polish in order to fit in with the other kids. And then, of course, when they got older they regretted it but it was too late.

News / Polish Diaspora - many of these 20 million actually speak Polish? [79]

My question is: How much/many of these 20 million actually speak Polish?

In the U.S., speaking a different language, other than English, was discouraged in school-aged children. A lot of parents went along with it. Eventually there were English-only laws. So, there would probably be a lot more Polish speakers if there had not always existed so much prejudice.

Love / Your feedback on office sex (situation from Poland) [37]

If it's not written in his contract that he can't date people from the workplace, then there's no legal basis to fire him or get involved in his personal life. The situation should be ignored. It will fall apart all on its own.

Love / Polish men like Latin girls? What do u find attractive in a girl physically & emotionally? [29]

You should wait for him to "break the ice" like you said. There might be a student/teacher rule at your school. Some teachers have to sign an agreement that they won't get involved with anyone at work or with a student or they'll get fired. And also, if you have to be in his class for a year, it could make things awkward if you express interest in him and it doesn't work out. If you really want a future with him, wait until he's no longer your teacher.

And the idea that Polish men are loyal and don't want one night stands is not true. It's really funny, actually. haha.

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

yes, it's simple. too simple, that's the problem. all you have said is, "americans don't eat Polish food because it's not to their taste".

I think Americans don't eat Polish food because it's not as available as other foods. When you go into a shopping mall and pass the food court, there's no Polish food but you do see Greek and Italian and Mexican and Indian food. If Polish food was more available, more people would eat it.

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

The only successful Polish restaurants I've ever heard of are in large Polish communities, such as Polonia, in Hamtramck, MI, which Anthony Bourdain covered.

There's one in Los Angeles called Polka Restaurant that has been around for years and people of all backgrounds go there. I hear the food is good.

Love / Polish women USED TO BE much more attractive: [162]

I dont see cancer effecting many animals,

Even our dogs and cats are getting cancer and people are blaming it on the vaccines that the government requires. The tumor develops in the spot where they were vaccinated and there's no cure for that kind of cancer so the animal dies within weeks or months.

Some people can eat junk food and feel good but not everyone can and that's a bad sign if you don't. Some people have to make a drastic change in diet.

Love / Polish women USED TO BE much more attractive: [162]

The sad thing is that my skinny friend and her sister both got cancer. Her sister died very young. A lot of people got sicknesses. Even our teachers and school administrators died young. I now eat food from a garden that me and my neighbor share because I don't want to die young, too.

USA, Canada / Why are Polish restaurants not successful in the USA? [698]

If this thread's titular question is meant to refer to specific Polish restaurants in the USA that have failed, then it should include examples of failed Polish restaurants in the USA,

There was one in Anaheim CA that went out of business and there's now a Mexican restaurant there.
