Life / What is going on in Polish Music [128]

You are welcome! smile. I think Polish music is too much focused on the American trends. Polish rap, for example, is one of the most popular music theme in Poland. The same sounds, lyrics, vocals - even clothes -- the only difference is that the lyrics are in Polish language. Other than that, there are great Polish composers (classics or jazz for example) but such music is not for the masses :|.

I think American rap is more about getting drunk etc while Polish rap is more about real life issues and actually has meaning in the lyrics

News / Poland - Third World Country?? [300]

I am actually appalled at seeing so many people refer to Poland as a 'third world country', I find it to be far from that...and technically former communists countries were called second world....but I feel that Poland is a first world country, it is probably not as developed as Canada or the USA but it is quite developed, so if you were to compare Poland with a country like Ethiopia, you would find them similar???

You probably have never worked with languages before.

I am aware of the language classifications....
I am teaching myself Polish and have been for years, I went to Poland and communicated fine with people....There are many people who are self-taught and speak languages quite fluently, so I am not sure why you'd say that, considering many of the people on this site are teaching themselves.

History / Polish hatred towards Jews... [1290]

You know before you state things like this, learn the facts.
Thousands of years ago, many Jews came to Poland due to the fact that the Polish were so tolerant towards them compared to the rest of Europe.

Food / POLISH RECIPES! [287]

One is a Serbian variation of bugia (anise flovered, cut into strips, deep fried until puffed, coated with powdered sugar)

I've made those before, but the recipe was called "Croatian bow ties" I think

BTW anyone have a recipe for pierogi ruskie?

Language / Use of A/An/The ...... Articles [186]

To nie JAKIś Elvis, ale TEN Elvis.

This is not any Elvis, but THE Elvis

In Polish, sometimes for 'the', the Polish word for 'this' is used instead(ta/ten/to) but if not, sometimes there is no difference between 'a' or 'the'

Language / Use of A/An/The ...... Articles [186]

I don't think any Slavic languages use a/the. I guess it all the depends on the context of what is said.

Love / What do Polish guys think of Irish girls? [187]

I think that anything one can think about a particular nationality would only be a stereotype, as nationalities don't define individuals

Life / What can citizens do to make Poland a better place to live? [125]

How about instead of shoving all that appreciation for multiculturalism crap down the kids’ throats you instead just give them the facts about other cultures and let them decide how to think about it all for themselves?

Do you think it's a good trait for your child to be prejudist? It just sets you back in life....

That’s not what I said at all, Davey. How did you get this from that quote?
Maybe you are one of the intolerant PC folks who jumps to attack and label as “haters” all others who may not share your precise views?

Maybe I am, maybe I'm not. I just see nothing wrong with teaching people to appreciate other cultures and resist ethnocentrism. Intolerance is considered a negative trait in the majority of societies.
