News / Amber Gold and other Poland's suspicious institutions [139]

It will be very interesting to see how the Polish government deals with such a scandal , who and how many people involved in this corruption will go to jail and fined and how victims will fight to get back their investment.

Yes! I will try to keep you informed on it.

After all the Trustee Irving Picard for Madoff victims got over 2 billions back for them .

Out of 50 billion invested into a scam.

Not bad. :):):):)

News / Poland Parliamentary elections 2015 [1060]

I made a mistake. I should have created one thread for two elections which happen to be held in the same year.
Presidential elections, 2015, Poland

It is too late now. Sorry.

The latest poll:

PO - 40%.
PiS-29%
SLD - 11%
Palikot- 9%
PSL-5%
Ziobro`s SP - 3%

Experts predict that the support might fall in next months when the global crisis hits Poland at last.

Travel / Traveling around Poland - our photo stories with very personal commentary [225]

Another exsellent board I see. This photographs are great.

Thanks. I suspected hardly anyone is interested in it. :):):):)

Eksuse me I have question or two.

Of course. I love when my students ask me questions. It proves they try to think hard. :):):):)

How long Polish people go on holiday typically?

As far as I know, the typical holiday is 25 days per year.

I calculated 2011 holiday from your entries in here`s discussion board and it sums up like higher than one month.

Yes, but as a teacher, I have 3 months holiday per year. :):):):)

And where do you typically stay on holidays? What is best option in Poland? I mean not too costly but quite confortable still? Hotels, private houses or flats, campings?

Every trip is different. But we never stay at hotels. Come on, I prefer to have a longer holiday in basic conditions than to spend a week at a costly hotel and come back home. I do a lot of search on the net and when I find a nice offer, we go to guesthouses or wooden cabins. When offers are not favourable, we take our small caravan which contains my wife and 3 kids while I have to take a small tent for myself and we go to campsites. That`s all. Saving on accomodation allows us to spend over a month out of polluted Krakow in the summer.

pardon me sir if I am too interested. My hope is you do not get offence. I wait on more relashons from you here.

You manners are really outstanding! :):):):):) Don`t change it and all girls/women in the forum will be yours! :):):):) Your handsome looks from your profile also play a role, of course............. :):):):):)

News / Amber Gold and other Poland's suspicious institutions [139]

It's a little different than naivety when you're dealing with what is suppose to be a reputable business.

I have seen Amber Gold advertisements for nearly 3 years. I took photos of them and have a few in my archives. When in Gdańsk in July this year, we walked past their main headquarters.

But it has never occured to me to move my money there. I intuitively felt it wouldn`t be a wise decision.

People who took such a decision were naive.

News / Amber Gold and other Poland's suspicious institutions [139]

Now it is clear that local prosecutors from Gdańsk must have had some dirty deal with Plichta. They suspended the investigation twice or even thrice despite various institutions` official reports.

And as we learn that there are other institutions as AmberGold in the eyes of the storm my question is who will reimbursed the thousands of Poles who were ripped off?
The Government? Marcin Plichta ? I doubt they ll ever see their money back .

Sorry, people are to blame themselves. They risked and lost - zagrali i przegrali. Life!

PS. There will always be greedy naive people - scandals like that are a good lesson for a few years. Then another scandal erupts and so does the world go on.

News / Who controls Gazeta Wyborcza?? [216]

Besides papa and big brother Szechter, let's give Adam's out-of-wedlock mum Helena Michnik the credit she so richly deserves: she was one of post-war Poland's leading Sovietisers of Polish school texbooks.

It is very amusing to see how right wing maniacs like you faithfully follow the doctrine that was first introduced by stalinist communists: that children are equally responsible for their parents` misdeeds.

Re your picture -- shows politics and politicians are essentially all the.

Don`t be silly. Look at the angle the photo was taken at. Try to find other photos of arrested Plichta on the Net. You won`t because there are none except for this one, published on the site of local Gdańs news portal.

Language / How to say, "let's go!" in Polish [16]

You`d better spend a dozen years in Poland with natives before you speak up in such threads. :):):):)
Simply speaking, don`t be a ciul. :):):)

History / Czech and Polish character in World War two [81]

Right you are! ;-)

Are you as beautiful as Halina Mlynkova, Czech-born Polish singer?:

s

But it also means I'm forever sitting on the fence.

Come on, bi-nationalism and bi-culturalism is an asset, not drawback.

Feedback / Why are there so many on here, who do not like Poland [150]

Why come on here if you Don't like Poland or it's people

The truth is that everybody who comes here is somehow fascinated by Poland (and Poles). They love it or hate it but fascination is a fact.

We should`t reject those people.

Life / Poland needs more immigrants and their children - which nationalities are the best? [518]

Whites only.

Thanks.
I vaguely remember it from 1980s. Once in high school we were talking about emmigration and somebody mentioned Australia and the Chinese.

From your link:
The 2001 Australian census results indicate that many Australians claim some European heritage: English 37%, Irish 11%, Italian 5%, German 4.3%, Scottish 3%, Greek 2%, Former Yugoslav 1.8%, Dutch 1.5%, Polish 0.9%. Australians of some non-European origin form a significant but still relatively small part of the population: Chinese 3.2%, Indian 0.9%, Lebanese 0.9%, Vietnamese 0.9%. About 2.2% identified themselves as Indigenous Australians. 39% of the population gave their ancestry as "Australian". The Australian census does not classify people according to race, only ethnic ancestry. (Note that subjects were permitted to select more than one answer for this census question.)[33]

History / The story about German- Polish reconciliation [194]

What a sad reason to learn German.

That was the reality of 1970s and 80s.

Did you learn phrases like these ones:

Schneller oder wir schiessen!.

No, silly, I didn`t learn such phrases. I learnt from very serious books which were designed for students much older than me. I hated them because they were so boring, about things of zero interest to me. East German publications were available in Poland and my German tutor used them. I remember one - about some stupid revolutionists in early 20 century Mexico and their adventures.

Today, when coming back from our last holiday trip, I stopped at a filling station and while paying for gas, I read the headline from the counter newspaper. The German Federation of Expellees has agreed to the leading motive of Museum of Expellees in Berlin: If Nazi Germans hadn`t comitted crimes during WW2, there wouldn`t have been expulsions of German civilians from Eastern Europe.

Quite positive change.

News / Amber Gold and other Poland's suspicious institutions [139]

Today, Amber Gold owner was arrested for 3 months. Accused of serious fraud, faces up to 15 years.
Prosecutors in Gdańsk who oddly closed an eye to his activity for nearly 3 years despite various alarming info are going to undergo disciplinary procedures.

s

It's no secret that the justice system is broken in Poland, after all.

Not broken because it works after all. I would say: not as effective as it should be. :):):):)

Where is this bridge? It's stunning... didn't notice it the last time I was in Wroclaw.

It is still there.

BTW, which bridge do you mean?

Tomorrow we are going on our last trip this summer. Traditionally, to Busko Zdrój. Don`t worry, only a few days.

When I get back, I will start relating all 2012 trips. Pam, I still remember about Gdańsk photos for you.

Life / Poland needs more immigrants and their children - which nationalities are the best? [518]

Can you tell me, for instance, which European countries invented medicine, gunpowder, algebra or even the wheel?

Good question.

Polish society can run its course with or without them. If they weren't there (and eventually they will have to vacate their positions) someone else would be doing their jobs. That's the facts of life.

Yes, of course. Nobody is irreplaceable. If one day you or me vanish from this forum for ever, do you think anybody will care? :):):):)

:):):):):) Guys, I love this exchange of yours.

PF is irreplaceable, after all.

Thank you.

Life / Polish vs British vs American - Clash of cultures [390]

we gonna keep it this way.

By using remote control, sitting in McDonald`s outlet in US? :):):):)

Pawian, the Polish class reminds me of my grade school. There were no blacks in my school.

It is still like that.

In my eldest son`s primary school there is one Korean girl. Among about 200 kids.

Life / Poland needs more immigrants and their children - which nationalities are the best? [518]

But what acts of legislation have either of them authored that significantly improved the quality of life for all Poles?

Do you desire to supplement your knowledge with new information or are you testing me?

How about a little search?

johngodson.pl

Godson is well known to be a "man of the people" - he did a hell of a lot in Lodz for people, which is why he got elected in the first place. It's well known that now that he's in the Sejm, he's focusing on ordinary issues of ordinary people, rather than trying to be a legislator. He has immense personal popularity in Lodz - because he cares about the people.

Chosen at random from his site - he sponsors junior high school students with his own scholarships.

Dear students!

If you are creative and have innovative and interesting ideas related to the vision of Our Town, in the future, we invite everyone to participate in the competition "£ÓD- OF MY DREAMS ". The prize is a scholarship in the amount of 200 zł per month for the school year 2013/14 year. The winners will also have the opportunity to pursue an internship in the Office of Deputies John Godson. The competition is open to high school students. The aim is to encourage them to think creatively about Lodz through artistic expression in the form of ideas for exploiting the potential of the city and its ideas in the future. So far, the scholarship received more than 72 young, ambitious people.

johngodson.pl/?page_id=10

They are there (not only Godson and the other one but all of them) to improve their's (in a broad sense) quality of life

Whjy are you in US? Were you a political refugee?

No, you went to US to improve your fekking quality of life.

Remember one saying: Live and let live.

Except Godson has done far more for Polish people than you ever will.

Funny and sad at the same time.

How many jobs or new businesses have either of these two men been directly responsible for creating?

If I say zero, will it entail condemnation from your side?

If I say Godson has worked on improving the quality of life of average residents of the city of £ódź, will you be satisfied?

Life / Let`s compare prices of services and products in Poland [359]

I see pawi is still on the mission to "prove" that Poland is not a poor country,

Ooosp, you mistook me for sb else. You need to shorten your absencies from the forum to keep better touch with things here.

after failing to prove that Poles are making decent money,

??????

he's now trying "but it's cheaper here" tune.

Yes, I am still trying though Wrocław Boy successfully combats my effort. :):):):)

What do they pay you for posting official line of propaganda?I simply can't believe that someone could be that dumb to post crap like you do for nothing.

Yaaaawn....

How about changing the repertoir? :):):):) This old song of yours has become a little boring....

and steal as much as they can from Polish people .

Yes, they steal and adopt Polish language, culture, customs, traditions.

I have nothing against!

A guy on the right is Godson, who's the other ?

Killion Munyama

Because Polish couple can't afford more children

Bulshyt.
Could they afford children in 1980s during a severe crisis in the communist paradise?
Yes, they could. Those years were baby boom times.

Now, when the conditions improved tenfold, they can`t?
